It’s the first Monday in May and that means that the annual Met Gala should be happening. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, the iconic event has been postponed to a date that’s not been determined and while we totally understand, it’s disappointing nonetheless. To help lift your spirits and provide you with all the fashion inspiration you expected to gain today, we’re throwing it back to the best Met Gala looks of all time starring your fave celebrities. The Met Gala started back in 1948 as a way to fundraise for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and ever since it’s been a New York fixture on the events scene.

If you crossed a woodland nymph with @cher, perhaps this beautiful butterfly @emrata of a fairytale dream would break through the chrysalis. The look of her is an ode to the queen of Camp herself, @cher. Emrata seemed to channel a few notes from Cher's signature styles from her days working with @bobmackie on her red carpet, including the barely – there bodice and the angel wing headpiece. She arrived Met Gala in a halter – necked custom @Dundusworld by @peter_dundas dress with a full bodice cut-out, open back, And a sheer silhouette, complete with a small train. The gown sparkled from head-to-toe including the wing headpiece she paired the look with, which included strands of crystals draped from ear-to-ear. One of the biggest nights on the fashion calendar, the Met Gala, will not go ahead as scheduled on May 4, 2020. The news follows a wave of canceled and postponed cultural events around the world due to coronavirus. The annual red carpet event, hosted by Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, is a celebrity-packed fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Since 2005, the event has been held, without fail, on the first Monday in May — it also marks the launch of its spring exhibition. In a statement sent to CNN on Monday, a museum spokesperson wrote: "The Museum will remain closed through Saturday, April 4. Additionally, the CDC advised over the weekend that there should not be any gatherings of 50 people or more for the next eight weeks. In deference to this guidance, all programs and events through May 15 will be canceled or postponed." This is not the first time the event has had a change of plans in its 72-year history. There have been years when the gala wasn't held at all, most notably in 1963, following the assassination of President John F.
