Forever 21 is the latest retailer that the retail apocalypse has claimed victim. The Los Angeles-based chain filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and the United States at the end of September 2019.
The fast fashion chain launched in Canada in 2001, making Canada its first non-U.S. location. Shortly after, Forever 21 expanded into 39 other countries, which was admittedly too fast for the retailer — according to the company, over the course of 12 months, locations in Europe, Asia, and Canada lost “approximately $10 million per month.”
Now Forever 21 will be closing all 44 of its locations across Canada.
Store closing sales began earlier this week. Forever 21 Canada has hired Gordon Brothers Canada — one of the liquidators involved with Sears Canada’s operations — and Merchant Retail Solutions to run its liquidation sales.
If you have a Forever 21 gift card, you’ll want to use it ASAP.
According to a sale order outlining the terms of the liquidation, Forever 21 Canada will only honour outstanding gift cards until October 15. Those who miss the cut off date will be able to use them online on the Forever 21 U.S. store. Unfortunately, the e-commerce store for Forever 21 Canada has already shut down.
With the liquidation sale in full force, we dropped by the Forever 21 Dufferin Mall location to see what the sale had on offer.
Right now, all of the clothing in the store is 10% off, while shoes, bags, and accessories are 20% off. Despite store signs reading “10%-30% off,” we did not spot anything for 30% off at the Dufferin Mall location.
What we did find was a mixture of summer and fall clothing and accessories.
While variety will vary store-to-store, the Dufferin Mall location had already cleared out a big chunk of its lower level.
Despite liquidation sales starting earlier this week, the lower level looked sparse; about a quarter of the bottom floor was completely empty.
Clearance items are an extra 50% off.
And on already low prices, an extra 50% off means you can find lots of items for under $10, though the size selection is limited.
All sales are final for the Forever 21 store closing sale.
And according to court documents, the sale is set to wrap up by November 31, however, it could be extended or terminated early, depended on how quickly items sell out.
One thing to know about liquidation sales is that discounts are always the lowest at the beginning of the sale.
As the sale continues, shoppers will likely see deeper discounts, however, the selection and variety will be more limited. If you’re looking for the cheapest prices, we suggest hitting up in the sale in November. However, if you’re looking for the best selection, head there now!
Regardless of the discounts, Forever 21 offerings are already set an affordable price, so even with just 10% off, you’re getting a pretty good deal.
