Throughout the last year, we have had to say farewell to many beloved brands that have faced store closures and even bankruptcies. Luckily, there are a handful of companies that have actually decided to expand operations and open locations in Canada. Now Canadians can shop at these stores without having to pay duties and taxes—we love the sound of that!

Here are international brands that are finally opening in Canada this year.

Jo Malone

The popular UK beauty brand Jo Malone London has now opened both Toronto locations! The cult brand, which sells perfume, home fragrance, and body care, has paired up with major shopping centres to launch its first Canadian shops.

One location is at CF Toronto Eaton Centre and the other at Yorkdale Shopping Centre. The Eaton Centre store is the larger of the two Toronto boutiques and is located next to Club Monaco, on the third floor. The Yorkdale boutique is smaller and near designer retailers like Chloe and Louis Vuitton.

Athleta

Gap’s sustainable apparel brand Athleta will be entering Canada later this year. This will be the very first time that the activewear label for women and girls will expand outside of the USA.

The first two Athleta store openings will be in Toronto at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre and Vancouver at the Park Royal Shopping Centre. These stores should be up and running by the fall of this year. Plus, a Canadian e-commerce site for Athleta will be available too!

Athleta plans to open between 20 to 30 stores all across North America annually, which will operate alongside the 200 stores already in the United States.

James Perse

The high-end LA-based fashion brand, James Perse, will be opening doors to two home furnishing stores in Canada. Both of these locations will replace WANT Apothecary stores that recently closed over the pandemic. One location will be in Toronto at 1070 Yonge Street in the Rosedale neighbourhood, and the second will be in Montreal at 4960 Sherbrooke Street West.

The Toronto spot is set to open this fall and the other sometime this month! Although the prices are quite hefty, you’ll get to shop beautiful bedding, pillows, shams, bath, and more.
