If you follow beauty news, you probably heard about Ulta’s plans to expand into Canada.

In the Spring of 2019, rumours that the American beauty giant would open store locations in Canada swirled. Reports stated that shoppers could expect the first Canadian Ulta location to open in late 2020 or early 2021.

However, those plans were put on pause in 2020 due to complications caused by the pandemic. The beauty retailer’s plans to expand got pushed to mid-2021. Now it looks like the cosmetics chain is putting its plans for Canadian expansion on hold indefinitely.

According to a new report, the Ulta Canadian expansion has been cancelled.

While the Illinois-based company had originally planned to open a handful of stores across Canada to start, Ulta will instead be prioritizing the growth of its American business. In a statement, the company said that “given the current operating environment, the company has decided at this time to prioritize growth of its U.S. operations and is suspending its planned expansion to Canada.”

This isn’t the only stir to the landscape that the pandemic has brought on. Plenty of retailers have been the victim of COVID-19, resulting in store closures and bankruptcies for tons of brands, both big and small.

We’ll keep you updated if Ulta Canadian expansion news progresses.
