During the throes of winter, sometimes all you need is a little pick-me-up with your girlfriends to cheer you up.
Not all of us have the time or money to hop on a plane and escape to a sunny destination, but that doesn’t mean you can’t escape the mundane of everyday! A girl’s getaway (or staycation) is just what you need.
Round up the gang and take notes ’cause we here at StyleDemocracy have mastered the girl’s weekend. Whether it’s for a birthday, a bachelorette, or just because, you can’t go wrong following our handy guide.
Here are five tips for hosting the perfect girl’s weekend in Toronto.
1. Pick a swanky hotel.
When it comes to the city, there really is no shortage of hotel options. But if you’re looking for one with a gorgeous view, the Westin Harbour Castle is a no brainer. Situated on Lake Ontario, the historic hotel has everything you need for the perfect girl’s weekend in Toronto: fabulous restaurants like Mizzen (hello, breakfast buffet!) and the famous sky-high Toula, room service, plush mattresses, a big pool, and a 24-hour fitness studio. Forgot your gym clothes? Don’t fret — the Westin Gear Lending program has you covered with sneakers and gym apparel.
At the Westin Harbour Castle, there are a number of different packages to choose from. The Winter Getaway Package, for example, includes a $10 Starbucks gift card and two vouchers to the Harbourfront Natrel Ice Rink.
For those with larger groups, an executive suite is a must for an old school slumber party. Featuring a king and two double beds, plus additional pull-out beds, the luxe suite is perfect for gatherings, but roomy enough for those who need some personal space. Oh, and did we mention that your furry friends are invited, too? Bonus!
2. Make it a spa day.
While there are a number of incredible spas within walking distance — think Spa My Blend by Clarins and SpaZen — there’s no need to blow your budget when you stay at a hotel like the Westin Harbour Castle. In fact, the perfect girl’s weekend is DIYing a spa for you and your friends. First stop? The hotel’s sauna, whirlpool, and pool to kick start your relaxation.
Afterward, head back to your room, slip on a fuzzy robe, and indulge in your favourite products. To combat dry, winter skin, we packed the Laline Thermal Mask that heats up, unclogs pores, and is packed with Vitamins A, E, and chamomile extract, and Scentuals Vitamin E Beauty Oil that helps tone, firm, and moisturize skin, as well as strengthen hair.
And don’t forget your nails! Essie is our polish of choice — the new Treat, Love & Colour collection is a current fave.
3. Explore what the city has to offer.
In Toronto, the world is your oyster! The Waterfront is beautiful and there’s always something to check out. Case in point: the Ice Breakers Exhibit! Featuring five interactive installations by Canadian and international artists, the exhibit runs along Queens Quay and is completely free to check out. Later in the winter from March 9 to 10, Sugar Shack TO will be open with winter activities like a marketplace, ice rink, obstacle course, and more.
But if you’re looking to explore even further, grab a Presto pass! The transit card can score you discounts at all of Toronto’s best attractions, like Ripley’s Aquarium, the ROM, and more.
4. Grab a delicious bite to eat.
Whether you’re a hardcore foodie or just in it for the ‘gram, there are plenty of restaurants within arm’s reach. Just a short walk from the Westin Harbour Castle, you’ll find plenty of mouthwatering choices, including Fresh on Front.
The vegan restaurant has choices that everyone in your friend group will love. Not to mention, they serve some fabulous craft cocktails. Do yourself a favour and stop by.
Grab a seat in one of the plush velvet booths and order the table a bowl of Fresh’s famous quinoa onion rings and buffalo cauliflower. You can’t go wrong with any of the mains (though, the burgers are delicious) and be sure to order all of the cookies for dessert.
5. Squeeze in some shopping.
But If you’re interested in taking the path less traveled, head to the Distillery District, which was recently named one of the coolest shopping spots in the world and check out the Toronto Light Fest while you’re at it. Or put on your walking shoes and visit some of the most underrated shopping destinations in the city.
