Did Louis Vuitton Just Buy Supreme for $500 Million?

*Note as of February 10th Hypebeast has conclusively reported that LVMH is not purchasing Louis Vuitton you can read the full article here.

The fashion world has been set ablaze with news coming out of the Highsnobiety camp. According to the popular streetwear and high fashion website, LVMH – the company that owns Louis Vuitton has just purchased Supreme for $500 Million.

While we are still filing this information under “rumours” this would be a spectacular turn of events in the fashion world. Supreme has always positioned itself as counter-culture. The brand has consistently literally and figuratively told the fashion world to go f*ck itself.  However, if the rumours are true and LVMH did purchase Supreme it would have huge implications on how the brand operates and likely would no longer be the Supreme brand of yore that turned its back to mainstream retailing and fashion practices.

If a huge company like LVMH owns Supreme will the brand continue to operate the same way? It’s unlikely that Supreme would continue its super low production runs and famously poor customer service.

We would have loved to see more concrete information coming out of Highsnobeity. The article starts out conclusive and then ends up relying heavily on the fact that this information is just fashion gossip. At time of publishing, mega pushers of Supreme and authoritative voice on streetwear – Hypebeast has yet to cover this story, and if it was super legit, there is no way that the major media company wouldn’t post about it.

We will keep you posted if this rumour matriculates.
