The popular rewards program at Starbucks is about to see some changes and Starbucks lovers don’t seem to be too thrilled about it.
In case you aren’t familiar with Starbucks Rewards, it’s simply a rewards program in the Starbucks App that awards you Stars as you spend money at Starbucks. You can use these Stars to redeem various menu items like coffee or bakery items, for free!
So what are people so upset about?
Starbucks has updated its rewards program increasing the Number of Stars it will cost to redeem a free item as of February 13, 2023.
Here’s how many Stars it will cost to redeem various menu items (one item per set of points):
100 Stars: Hot brewed coffee or steeped tea, iced brewed coffee or tea, a bakery item such as a cake pop, a packed snack such as potato chips, Cold Siren Logo Plastic To-Go Cup (24oz), or a Siren Logo Plastic Hot Cup (16oz).
200 Stars: Any hand-crafted beverage such as a latte, or any hot breakfast item such as a breakfast sandwich.
300 Stars: Packaged salad, lunch sandwich, protein box, or packaged coffee item such as whole bean coffee.
Until February 13, these items cost 50, 150, and 200 Stars each.
The silver linings? One is that Starbucks didn’t completely strip us of our occasional free treats by taking away their rewards program all together. The second is that it will cost fewer Stars to redeem a bag of coffee beans once the change is in effect.

So, If you’ve been saving up your collection of Stars, you may want to redeem them before February 13 to get the most out of them before the change takes place.

Times are really tough these days, with local businesses struggling and some folks being laid off or furloughed from their jobs. Food security is a serious issue and right now due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more severe than ever before. One Toronto butcher shop is doing its part to ensure that no one goes hungry by giving free food to whoever needs it.
Portuguese grocery store Nosso Talho has been on the scene in the Bloorcourt neighbourhood since 1974 and its owner is generously offering to help by giving free food to people who need it.
“If ANYONE is not working/not getting a paycheck and runs out of food, or times are just tough…please don’t let you, or your kids especially, go to sleep with an empty stomach. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to send me a private message. I’m more than happy to share whatever I can. I will drop off and go and pretend it never happened,” reads a post on the grocery store’s Facebook page.
In these uncertain times, it’s more crucial than ever that we all pull together and do whatever we can within our means to help our community.
While we’ve seen big brands and companies like Sunwing, Roots, and Telus doing their part, it’s so beautiful and inspiring to see a local grocery store stepping up when times are no doubt tough for them as well.

On September 18, McDonald’s celebrated National Cheeseburger Day by giving away free cheeseburgers. And this year they’re extending the promotion, so if you missed the first day, don’t fret!
You can score free cheeseburgers at McDonald’s until September 24, 2019.
There are just a couple of catches. First, you’ll need to download the Mcdonald’s app, which is free to download, in order to get the promotion. You’ll also have to make a food or beverage purchase a minimum of $1 to get your cheesy treat, which isn’t so bad! Just grab yourself some dessert or a drink to wash it all down.
Also know that there’s a limit of one free cheeseburger per order. You can claim the promotion in participating locations across Ontario or through mobile order.
But if you’re too lazy to leave your house, you’ll be happy to hear that McDonald’s is running a special promotion with Uber Eats and SkipTheDishes, too.
For one day only on September 19, you can get $5 off your entire McDonald’s delivery for McDelivery Day.
To get the promotion, all you have to do is make an order on Uber Eats (minimum purchase of $15 required before taxes and delivery fees) or SkipTheDishes (minimum purchase of $20 required before taxes and delivery fees) and use the promotion code “McDelivery2019”.
