Beachy waves are one of our all-time favourite hairstyles for summer. They look so effortlessly cool! But as with everything that looks effortless, they do require a bit of effort. We don’t always have time to indulge in a full beach day in order to create authentic beachy waves, after all (sigh). With the right products, tools, and techniques, we can look like we just got back from a beach vacation any day of the week!
Note: Everyone has different hair, and there are multiple ways to achieve various beachy wave hairstyles. This is just an option we’ve been loving!
Honestly, this hairstyle works best when your hair isn’t at its freshest. But you can always add a bit of extra texture to your hair with a sea salt spray and/or some styling cream! Some prefer to use styling products after heat has been applied; however, for beachy waves in particular, we like to get as good of a base as we can before we go in with the hot tools!
As we mentioned above, there are plenty of different ways to get different styles of beachy wave looks. At the moment, we’ve been loving using a hair waver, ensuring we get a consistent look every time!
First, comb out your hair with a wide-tooth comb and apply a heat protectant. Then, part your hair in however many sections you need (probably 2 or 3), working from the bottom to top. Within each section, take little sections of your hair at a time and run the waver through it, from the top to bottom of the strands. It may take a little bit of trial and error to figure out how large of sections to use through the waver. Do the same process until you reach the top! And remember – the whole point of beachy waves is to look effortless, so don’t fret if it doesn’t look perfect.
Now, give your hair a second to cool down, if you comb it out while it’s still hot, you risk messing up your waves, and not in a good way. Once your hair is completely cooled down, you can take a comb and brush it out, allowing the waves to blend nicely together and get out any knots before the finishing touches.
If you struggle with frizz, simply add a little bit of hair oil to keep frizz at bay and add some extra texture and shine!
Lastly, it’s time to add that “undone” messy look to your waves in order to give them that “beachy” appearance! Shake out your hair with your fingers until you’re happy with how it looks, then lock it all in with hair spray! And you’re done!

11 Must-Have Beauty Products For Summer
As much as we love the summer season, it’s no secret that hot days and humid weather makes doing our hair not-so-fun. Let’s be real; sometimes, the last thing we want to worry about during the summer is hair styling. Having a few go-to easy hairstyles that don’t require a second thought is key when it comes to getting ready for a day spent out in the sun. From sleek buns to beach waves, there are plenty of easy hairstyles to add to your roster this summer.
A sleek bun is one of our top fave summer hairstyles. It’s foolproof and there are multiple variations (high, low, etc.) so you can always switch it up a bit. It’s perfect for oily hair days and you’ll always look put-together with minimal effort. A good hair gel, a boar-bristle brush, and a hair wax stick will be your best friends for this hairstyle.
Depending on your natural hair texture will indicate just how easy this hairstyle is to achieve. If you have somewhat straight/wavy hair, really all you need is some texture spray to give it that “beachy” vibe. Otherwise, you may need some hot tools. Either way, the great thing about a beachy waves hairstyle is that throughout the day, it wears really well, even if you tend to get a little frizzy – it’s part of the vibe.
One of the easiest hairstyles is throwing all your hair up and into a cute claw clip. You can even leave a few face-framing pieces out to make it a little more intentional and styled if you want. We’re loving these claw clips from Kōv.
To add some interest to a simple ponytail, braid it! It’s way easier than a French braid, and any variation works: pigtail braids, multiple braids in a single pony, etc. It keeps your hair out of your face and off your neck yet still looks effortlessly cute.
Okay, this one is kind of cheating, but anytime you can’t be bothered doing your hair, just put on a baseball cap or really any hat of your choice and you’re ready to go.
Headbands, sporty or otherwise, instantly make a hairstyle look more intentional. Plus, they keep hair out of the face while even concealing oil, which is all too common in humid weather!
There’s nothing worse than heat styling your hair when it’s already hot out. Luckily, there are tons of heatless curl hacks and tools (although, may require a bit of effort), to give you great curls without the use of a curling iron. Look up “heatless curls” on TikTok for ample tutorials!
When in doubt – go natural! Simply just apply your favourite hair oil to pull it all together and you’re set.
The wet hair look has been everywhere lately! It’s super editorial-looking and not all that hard to achieve! Simply start with wet hair and then dowse your hair in gel until you get your desired look. You can also use mousse for a more wearable look!
A simple way to take your hairstyle up a level in little to no time is to add some kind of hair accessory! Whether that be pulling back some strands with a cute clip for a half-up-half-down look or adding pins to dress up your front pieces, you really can’t go wrong!

For a long time, the beauty industry was lacking in options for BIPOC consumers, and although it still has a long way to go, there is now a variety of amazing black-owned beauty brands on the market that are leading by example and raising the bar for what is acceptable in terms of beauty inclusivity. Some of these brands cater specifically to the BIPOC community, providing products that were previously non-existent or non-accessible, and others are beauty brands offering a wide variety of products for all skin/hair types. All began with thoughtful origin stories.
One of the most notable black-owned beauty brands is none other than Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. Rihanna was inspired to create Fenty Beauty after years of experimenting with the best-of-the-best in beauty—and still seeing a void in the industry for products that performed across all skin types and tones. The brand is known for its wide selection of makeup and extensive shade range.
KNC Beauty, named after its founder Kristen Noel Crawley, was inspired when she saw a wall of lip masks while in Tokyo! She then realized that there were no natural lip masks on the market, so KNC Beauty was born. Kristen created the first all-natural, collagen-infused lip mask, which has since blown up on social media. The brand now also offers eye and face masks, too!
All too often you hear people refer to “nude” describing a light beige colour. But the reality is, “nude” can be a whole range of different colours and pigments. Enter Mented Cosmetics, co-founded by KJ Miller and Amanda E. Johnson. The duo created Mented with the mission to make beauty truly inclusive. The brand’s first product was a nude lipstick that was pigmented for their own skin tones – which the market previously lacked. Since then, Mented (short for pigmented), has grown to offer all kinds of different makeup products!
Beauty Bakerie was founded by Cashmere Nicole in 2011 with the mission to “be sweet and sweeten the lives of others.” As implied in the name, if you aren’t yet familiar with Beauty Bakerie’s products, a heavy theme of baking is instilled. Cashmere Nicole’s passion for high-quality and healthy ingredients was driven by a battle with Breast Cancer. Now the cruelty-free, all-inclusive cosmetic brand is sold in over 1000 locations! You can read more about Beauty Bakeries’ impressive initiatives here.
Ami Colé, named after its founder Diarrha N’Diaye-Mbaye’s mother, is a beauty brand offering essentials for melanin-rich skin! On its website it states “Beauty created for us. By us. Because before, there was nothing out there that really saw us.” Some of the brand’s best-selling products include its Skin-Enhancing Tint, Lip Treatment Oil, and Skin-Enhancing Concealer.
Nancy Twine, the founder and CEO of Briogeo, previously worked in finance but decided to pivot after the loss of her mom lead her on a soul-searching journey. She found herself reconnected with past memories including those of creating custom beauty treatments using natural ingredients, alongside her mom in the kitchen. This ultimately inspired Nancy to make a larger impact in the natural beauty world with Briogeo, a haircare brand catering to all hair types. Briogeo has since created quite the name for itself and has a massive cult following!
The founder of BREAD, Maeva, traces the brand back to when she was a child spending a lot of time in her mother’s braiding salon. She says the braiding tutorials, storytelling, familiar faces and close-knit community of women with curly, coiled, and textured hair was her Mum’s own version of BREAD. Now, the brand offers the essentials and must-haves – just like bread, except for hair.
Tristan Walker created Bevel with the vision to enhance the grooming experience for people of colour, creating products that specifically cater to curly hair. He grew frustrated with the grooming products on the market leaving razor bumps and irritation, and the idea of Bevel was born. The brand now carries everything from razors to body wash!
Pat McGrath Labs was founded by none other than makeup artist Pat McGrath herself! While setting major global beauty trends within the fashion and beauty industry, Pat McGrath has been formulating and perfecting her must-have collection of high-performance cosmetics since 2015. She was even dubbed “..the most influential makeup artist in the world” by Vogue! The brand is known for its high-quality, innovative formulas, trusted by designer fashion houses and celebrities alike.
Did you know that aside from making waves in the music industry, Alicia Keys also has a lifestyle beauty brand? Keys Soulcare is all about simultaneously nourishing the skin as well as the soul. “Honouring the connection between skin
and soul, every offering is infused with intention — from symbolic icons and affirming mantras to recommended
rituals — to transform the time we spend caring for our skin into a moment of personal ceremony.” While shopping the collection, you’ll find everything from face oils to candles!
Founded by Dr. Bimpe Ayeni, a board-certified Plastic Surgeon and her husband, Ade Ajayi, Blair&Jack is a Canadian, physician-backed skincare brand created specifically for men’s skin. Its simple product line creates a straightforward yet effective routine, keeping skin healthy and hydrated. Every product is uniquely formulated and perfectly thought out to target various skin concerns like texture, oil and hyperpigmentation.
Conceptualized by Tisha Thompson, LYS Beauty provides clean, inclusive, skin-loving formulas that redefine the definition of beauty. Proudly the first Black-owned Sephora Clean Makeup brand, LYS Beauty aims to provide affordable makeup with a skincare-first approach! You’ll notice triangular packaging throughout its lines, meant to signify change, which is an important pillar for the brand.

You may have to wait for the weather to catch up to the season to start indulging in spring fashion, but you can always start playing around with this season’s makeup and hair trends! Every season we see a switch in the popular makeup and hairstyles, and while you don’t have to follow them, it can be a fun excuse to branch out of your comfort zone and try something new! The transition from winter to spring is a dramatic one, and it reflects in the trends. Say goodbye to dark and dramatic and hello to light and airy.
Or we should say, hair that looks unstyled. It’s like no-makeup makeup except for hair. This season it’s all about embracing your natural hair and ditching the hot tools more often for products that help your hair thrive in its natural state. A huge trick for accomplishing an “un-styled” hair look, is haircare! (Psst… If you’re struggling with dead ends K18’s Hair Mask is seriously magic.)
Tying in with a re-occurring spring theme of effortlessness – is claw clip hairstyles. There are surprisingly a lot of ways you can wear a claw clip, however, one of the most popular ways is just gathering all your hair to the back and clipping, even if it’s a little messy. It adds to the look. Claw clips have come a long way since the 90s when they had their original moment, now you can find them in all shapes, sizes, styles, and even some that are virtually indestructible (as you may have seen on TikTok).
The haircut of the season seems to be the bob. If you’re looking to take some weight off of your hair, there’s no better time than right before the heat kicks in! That being said, hair length trends tend to go in and out, so think hard before you go and chop your hair off, especially if your hair tends to take a while to grow! Maybe start with a couple of inches and work your way up.
For the moments when we’re not being so effortless, volume comes into play! There are tons of tools on the market to help you achieve the perfect at-home blow out like Dyson’s Airwrap, Revlon’s Ionic Hair Dryer and Volumizer, Hair Rollers, and this Heatless Curler Headband that people can’t seem to stop raving about.
Eyebrow trends are always ever-changing. We’ve gone from paper-thin brows to thick, drawn-on brows, to feathery brows, to soap brows, and now, lifted brows. It’s no secret that eyebrows can completely change the appearance of the face, so there’s this trick going around to give a non-surgical facelift by simply lifting the brows. Some people who have a heavier arch are literally shaving off the end of their brows to extend their brows in a more lifted manner, lifting the appearance of their face along with it. If you’re not down to shave off half of your eyebrow, feathery brows brushed upwards is another alternative.
If we had to choose one makeup product to keep in our collection this season, it would probably be blush. After all, it can be used as eyeshadow and lipstick, too! Don’t shy away from pink, rosy blushes this spring – the more the merrier! We, along with the rest of the world, are huge fans of Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush.
This one should come as no surprise as dewy skin and makeup is always a preferred choice come spring and summer. But, this spring we’re taking it up a notch. Dewy – almost wet-looking skin is the moment. Apply all your dewy makeup products, then douse your skin in a spray like Mac’s Fix+ to take it to the next level.
Kind of tying in with the dewy/wet skin look is shimmery eyeshadow. Ditch the matte eyeshadow for something ultra-shimmery like ColourPop’s Super Shock Shadows. It provides an editorial look with little to no effort! You don’t even need to layer it with other shadows if you don’t want to. Just pop it on your lid and you’re set.

As the transition into fall begins and the air begins to cool, we can’t help but notice particular hairstyles and cuts are on the rise. Throughout summer, all too often we start the day with a certain hairstyle and then end up throwing it in a hair tie because it’s just too hot to deal with. Fall is the perfect time to play around with different hairstyles because it’s the sweet spot in between summer humidity and winter snow, here in Canada anyway.
Hair can be so expressive, of someone’s individual identity. Which is why it’s so fun to try out different hair trends and see what works for your style and particular hair type – and who knows, maybe you’ll find your new go-to! Some trends we’ve been spotting lately have been strong enough to carry over from past seasons, and some are fresh and new.
Wavy hair, or “beach waves” as some call it, is a hairstyle we saw all throughout summer and it’s here to stay! Having a nice wave throughout your hair gives it a perfect amount of volume and texture without looking too formal. You can achieve the popular wavy-hair trend with the help of Drybar’s ‘The Beach Bender’ hot tool (which is currently on sale at Chatters!). It’s super easy to use, and provides the exact look that we’re referencing!
This model-off-duty hairstyle continues to stay on trend! We love a sleek bun or ponytail for how easy it is to accomplish, yet it always ends up looking so tailored and put-together. Bad hair day? Sleek it back into a ponytail. Hair needs a wash but you’re in a rush? Sleek bun. Your best friend when achieving the sleek pulled-up hairstyle is having second or third-day hair, a hair gel to smooth it all out and a boar-bristle brush to help avoid bumps while you pull your hair back.
Blowouts have been having a major moment over the past couple of years! The more volume the better. Luckily you don’t need to go to a blow-dry bar to achieve a gorgeous blowout, thanks to Revlon’s viral One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer! It makes giving yourself a blowout so much easier than with the old-school hair dryer and round brush. A voluminous blowout in the fall is *chefs kiss*.
In terms of trending haircuts, it’s all about layers right now! There are tons of different layered haircuts and they all seem to be trending. Short or long, having an abundance of layers with some face-framing bangs or pieces to style is all the rage. Some of the boldest haircuts within the layered hair trend are known as wolf cuts, shags, and of course the boldest of all, the mullet.
Side parts are coming back to play! Not so long ago side parts were considered somewhat dated and middle parts took over. But now the side part seems to be coming back strong! Especially in an editorial way. We can’t help but notice the controversial side-part making more and more appearances on the runway and in magazines. That being said, part your hair however you like, regardless of what’s trending, and don’t let anyone tell you the way you part your hair is out of style!
The level of chic that a bob creates is unmatched. If you’re sick of your hair and want something new and fresh… Why not give it a chop? Sleek bobs, as well as textured bobs, are super trendy right now. Even Emma Chamberlain is currently sporting one, and we all know anything she does or wears becomes instantly trendy. The best part about this chic haircut is it’s a great excuse to refresh your hair and make it healthy again! There’s no better time than now to chop off those dead ends.
Although most hair colours don’t really go out of style, there always seems to be a hair colour that dominates the scene in terms of trendiness. In the past it has been brunette to blonde ombré and currently, it’s copper. Copper hair looks good on virtually anyone and any skin tone. As fall approaches it gives off the perfect autumnal vibes, we’re obsessed!
We can’t get enough of this hair trend! It makes styling the hair so fun and playful. Simply add some cute barrettes or bobby pins to any hairstyle and you’re set! It can even elevate a simple ponytail in a literal snap.
The queen of headbands, Blair Waldorf, would definitely approve of this trend. Whether it be fabric or structured, headbands in all styles are making their way back just in time for fall! Who doesn’t love a full head-to-toe preppy look every once in a while? Embrace the prep-school, old-money vibes by simply putting on a cute headband.
Last but not least, is simply your hair in its natural glory. No matter what your natural hair texture is, it has become way more accepting – some may even say trendy to wear it just as is. There’s something beautiful about accepting our natural hair and not trying to manipulate it to look a certain way. Of course, you can always assist your natural hair with some product like a leave-in conditioner or even some mousse to help maintain frizz and let your natural texture shine!
