As COVID-19 continues to spread, the way retailers operate continues to evolve. From moving things online to installing extra protection for frontline workers, every move announced is for the health and safety of shoppers and employees.
Essential businesses such as pharmacies, grocery stores, and alcohol stores are still open but with restricted hours, and the LCBO recently just changed its scheduled operations for stores across the province.
The decision was announced after an LCBO employee in North York tested positive for coronavirus.
The Monday closures are for all locations across Ontario. The previously announced LCBO COVID-19 reduced hours of 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. still apply Tuesdays through Sundays.
The e-commerce platform is still accessible to shop, however, customers who choose this method have to follow special directions from Canada Post to pick up their deliveries. For those in Ottawa, the LCBO is available through foodora.
There are also a number of other delivery services for alcohol available across the country, including through select restaurants on Uber Eats.

Earlier this summer, iconic Toronto vintage store Black Market announced that it was closing its basement location for good. However, at the time of the announcement, the retailer already had a backup location in place. Located directly across the road from Black Market’s former location at 347 Queen St. West, the new location features all of the same incredible deals and steals as the OG, with vintage finds for just $10 or less. And while the basement location was slated to close at the end of June, they’ve extended the stay to clear out the location — everything in-store is just $5 a piece. Head there quick — the original location won’t be open long and the good stuff is sure to go fast.

We’ve all been there. You’re sitting at home, too busy (or lazy) to head out to pick up your favourite bevy.
But the future is here, and one food delivery service is toying with the idea of delivering alcohol straight to your door.
The initiative is part of a new pilot program that was created for thirsty Canadians and starts in Ottawa today. The goal is to eventually roll out the program in other popular cities across Canada.
Wine should be an easy thing to pick up and bring to a dinner party – in theory.
In reality, the shelves of witty, worldly, and sometimes weird labels with descriptions of “chewy tannins” and “fleshy bodies” can leave non-sommeliers confused. And then there’s the price. Expensive wine tastes better, right? But are they really that much better?
For the last two weeks, I’ve been drowning myself in budget-friendly bottles of wine to bring to you a list of affordable ones you can purchase at your local LCBO. Here are eight different wines – all under $12 – that actually aren’t that bad!
1. Beringer Main & Vine / Cabernet Sauvignon / California / $11
https://www.instagram.com/p/BQWb_xEjMDH/?hl=en&taken-by=mainandvinewine
As a personal favourite of mine, Beringer’s Cabernet is an easy drinking red wine that’s perfect for pairing with dinner. With silky tannins, rich berry aromas and hints of cassis and vanilla, this bottle’s quality is way above its price tag.
2. Marcus James / Malbec / Argentina / $11.95
Straight from Argentina, this Malbec’s spice, floral and black fruit aromas are augmented by the vanilla notes contributed from oak ageing. To sum it all up, it’s flavorful with soft tannins that linger on the palate. Just be careful, it’s so good you’ll want to drink it all at once!
3. XOXO Pinot Grigio Chardonnay / Blend / Canada / $10.95
https://www.instagram.com/p/BgrA23Xl1_h/?taken-by=xoxowines
I couldn’t forget to mention Canada! This white wine blend is fresh and crisp with flavours of tree fruits and minerals. The bottle and title might seem a bit tacky, but this a great, tasty white wine if you’re on a budget.
4. Bodacious Smooth Red / Blend / Canada / $10.75
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bb5bqoRHPTG/?tagged=bodacioussmoothred
As the cheapest red wine on the list, Bodacious Smooth Red is a blend that’s a simple and easy wine to enjoy. There isn’t much going on with it, but it can’t be beaten for price. It’s not as dry as other reds, yet it still contains some ruby colours and sweet berry flavours.
5. Black Cellar / Pinot Grigio / Ontario / $11.95
https://www.instagram.com/p/BgXQXljHavp/?taken-by=blackcellarwine
Black Cellar’s Pinot Grigio is another light and smooth white wine that’s super easy to drink. Its aromas are rich in stone fruits like apples and peach, with a touch of floral. You can’t go wrong with this one or Black Cellar’s Shiraz Cabernet if you’re more of a red wine drinker (both the same price).
6. Revolution Red / Blend / California / $12
Hailing from California’s wine country, Revolution Red is a mix of Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The flavours are so rich and fruity, carrying through to the finish for a well-balanced glass of red.
7. Fuzion Alta Reserve / Malbec / Argentina / $10.95
https://www.instagram.com/p/BJl8Y9KhKdR/?tagged=fuzionaltareservemalbec
This bottle was recommended to me by a friend, and it’s a great value. Its aromas are rich in chocolate, vanilla and black currant, accompanied with flavours of cherry and raspberry. It’s bold yet balanced and out of all the wine’s on this list, I think it’s the tastiest.
8. Astica / Malbec Rosé / Argentina / $8.45
Pale salmon in colour, this light bodied rosé offers aromas of rose petals and raspberries. I’m not a regular rosé drinker myself, but this affordable bottle if perfect for warm summer nights. It’s tasting notes are of citrus and tart cranberry for a crisp and refreshing finish.

We’ve got some good news! Finally, Ontario will be making our lives MUCH easier this coming spring, by expanding beer and cider sales. They will be expanding to 87 more grocery stores across the province – almost 40 of which are in the GTA.
These stores were selected through a competitive bidding process run by the LCBO and will be authorized to sell beer and cider as of April 2018. That’s not too long from now!
This will bring the total number of grocers authorized to sell these products in Ontario up to 370. Ultimately the goal is to have beer and cider available in up to 450 grocery stores, including up to 300 that will also sell wine.
Click here to find out where you can find the new beer and cider outposts coming to Toronto in April.

As Canada’s 150th anniversary looms close, everyone is planning how to spend the big day. Whether you are planning on hitting up a patio, having a massive bbq or just getting together with friends it’s very likely that your activities will include a couple of libations. Which is why news that LCBO staff may go on strike days before Canada day is stressing out many Ontarians.
CTV News is reporting that Workers at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario could go on strike just days before the Canda Day long weekend.
According to CTV News, The Ontario Public Service Employees Union requested a “no board” report which has set a strike deadline of 12:01 on June 26, 2017 .
The LCBO says it’s hopeful a negotiated collective agreement will occur but if not it will have to look at contingency plans.
What does a plan b look like? We aren’t 100% sure but if not planned properly, it could see temporary closures until the problem if solved.
Again According to CTV news, the LCBO believes the Unio picked this time strategically to put more pressure on a decision.
Considering Canada Day long weekend is one of the busiest times at the LCBO we think it’s unlikely that consumers won’t be able to shop for booze leading up to the big day.
