After filing for bankruptcy protection, the vegan beauty brand, The Body Shop, is closing 33 of its 105 stores and its online shop in Canada.
The company shared in a news release, “The Body Shop Canada is commencing this NOI process to obtain a stay of proceedings to provide additional breathing room while it evaluates its strategic alternatives and implements certain restructuring initiatives.”
The website is already inactive, stating on its homepage, “Thanks for visiting” – “We’re currently undergoing planned maintenance, but don’t worry we’re due to be back online soon.”

After almost 30 years of business, tech and electronics discount retailer Factory Direct (FactoryDirect.ca) is closing all 14 of its locations.
Factory Direct is a one-stop-shop providing discounted computers, phones, TVs, appliances, and even some home and beauty products.
A closing liquidation sale has begun, with over $10 million of inventory to clear out. The sale will include a huge selection of brands such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Cuisinart, and so many more.
“This is a unique opportunity for customers to get the top branded products at liquidation prices. Due to the most recent economic conditions, it’s becoming more apparent that businesses are having a difficult time managing operations. FactoryDirect.ca has been a consistent source of incredible deals for a long time and it is such a shame to see this almost 30 year old, Canadian Owned discount retailer with hundreds of employees have to close it’s doors forever” shared Alex Hennick, President of A.D. Hennick & Associates in a press release.

Run, don’t walk to the Urban Planet at the Toronto Eaton Centre. The store is currently having a ton of discounts before it permanently closes the location.
This store location was actually once home to a Forever 21 a few years ago. Back in 2019, YM Inc. opened a handful of stores like Urban Planet, Urban Behaviour, and Stitches in Forever 21 locations.
There should be a lot of inventory left if you decide to browse the sale, as the discounts just started.

If you haven’t been to a Disney Store yet to grab some merch, you better head over soon! Ten more stores will shut down operations by the end of summer.
There will be only three locations that will stay open in the GTA until further notice.
Although it may be sad to say goodbye to the beloved Disney Store, this does mean that there will be a major liquidation sale.
If you’re looking to check out the liquidation sales, some stores that will be offering a chance to shop are Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, CF Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton, and Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket.
These closures are all due to the shift in customer’s shopping behaviours and wanting to purchase items online. Unfortunately, the Disney Store won’t be offering a Canadian e-commerce store, so if you do want to continue browsing the items, you will have to do so in American dollars.

The Running List Of Retail Store Closures And Bankruptcies In 2020
With retailers going out of business and liquidating merchandise weekly, you might be inclined to check out some store closing sales in your area.
Liquidation sales are a great opportunity to score deals on discounted items that you can give as gifts during the holidays.
But buyers beware: before you begin crossing gifts off of your shopping list, be sure you’re not overspending on liquidation merchandise… Don’t be fooled by “store closing” sales. Here’s how to spot a “real deal.”
Stories of retailers jacking up prices before putting them on markdown are becoming all too familiar… While we hate to think that liquidators would do such a thing, it is completely possible. Remember: stores under liquidation are trying to pay their creditors back during these tough times. Therefore, always be aware of the original retail price of an item (before markdowns,) to understand if after the markdowns you’re getting a “real deal.” A quick search using your smartphone on Amazon or the retailer’s e-commerce site can quickly help to clarify the pricing of an item before you buy it.
During liquidation sales, return policies and warranties become void almost immediately. Rather than dealing with the hassle of damaged or faulty electronics and major appliances after you’ve brought them home, we recommend avoiding buying these types of items altogether.
Typically when a store files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and liquidates its stores, the liquidations are handled by an outsourced company. These companies will lay out all of the ground rules for shopping the sale, including when gift cards will stop being accepted and approximate end dates for the sales.
By paying close attention to these important dates, you can ensure you don’t get stuck with a useless gift card and you’ll get a better idea of when the big discounts are coming, which leads us to our next tip…
Most liquidation sales follow a staggered discount format. Week 1 of liquidation sales will see shelves stocked with merchandise and only a 10-20% price reduction. While several weeks later, the discounts will increase closer to 50-70% off, however, the quantity and quality of merchandise remaining in-store will dwindle.
With that being said, you get the very best liquidation sale deals in the 1-2 weeks before an actual store closes its doors. While most stores won’t tell you the exact date they are closing — as it depends on leases and how quickly stock is sold — you can usually find approximate dates. It’s also always worth asking an associate in-store in order to coordinate the best time to make a return trip back to the store to take advantage of the biggest markdowns.
If a big chain is liquidating its stores, it’s worth it to visit multiple locations if you have the time. Sometimes leases of stores will end earlier than others, which means product can get consolidated with other stores. Plus, each store will have varying inventory and selection, so you never know what you could find at a discount. Not to mention, if the store closing is a store you loved, it’ll likely be your last chance to shop it!

With all Canadian Forever 21 stores slated to close at the end of November, there isn’t much longer to reap the benefits of the retailer’s liquidation sales.
The Los Angeles-based fast fashion chain filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and the United States at the end of September, and these next few weeks are the final days to shop the sale.
We popped by the CF Toronto Eaton Centre location and discovered that everything in-store is now 30 to 60% off the original retail price.
There’s still a pretty decent amount of both men and womenswear.
But the store fairly clean and easy to shop! Most of the clothing, accessories, and footwear is now 30% off, while jewelry, bath and body, tech, and cosmetics is 40% off.
The deepest discounts can be found on clearance merchandise, which is an extra 60% off the already reduced price.
Pricing sheets are scattered throughout the sale to help shoppers determine discounts.
However, the fixture sale starts at a different time. Customers interested are asked to fill out a form in-store.

After Sears Canada announced this fall that they were liquidating all their operations across the country for good, we were heartbroken to hear that thousands of employees lost their jobs.
Today, on the ruins of what once was one of the most successful retail giants in American history, a group of 25 Canadian companies have come together to open a 150,000-square-foot, two-story mega liquidation centre in Markham to sell Sears inventory direct to the public.
The new outlet will not only help sell thousands of items of orphaned Sears inventory but also will hire many ex-Sears employees to help run the outlet, making it a win-win solution that serves both parts.
“Aside from the tremendous pain to employees, pensioners and vendors who have lost millions of dollars as a result of Sears’ bankruptcy, customers have lost a reliable source of high-quality merchandise and many vendors lost their largest customer,” said Ari Starr, the founder of Bobby’s Liquidation Outlet and one of Sears’ former suppliers.
Bobby’s Liquidation Outlet offers clothing, accessories, leather goods and jewelry to toys, bath, bedding, kitchenware and home decor items, with the exception of appliances at deeply discounted prices. Visitors can also find such brands as Armani, Columbia Sportswear, Dolce & Gabbana (D&G), Gucci, Cavalli, Moschino and Dsquared – at bargain prices.
According to the official news-release, sample bargain prices at Bobby’s Liquidation Outlet include $9.99 for Sears’ Jessica Brand dresses, $59 for Columbia Sportswear winter jackets, $49 for designer jeans from D&G, Gucci, Dsquared, 40-50 percent off socks and undergarments, $14.99 for a four-piece set of twin or queen sheet sets ($15.99 for king sets), and much more.
The outlet located at Steeles Avenue and Highway 404 at 2900 Steeles Avenue will also surprise vintage lovers with a 3,500-square-foot Antique & Vintage Market, featuring vintage furniture, lamps, appliances and jewelry at below market prices.
Good news is that by purchasing any item at the outlet sale you will also support people with special needs, as a portion of the profit will go to organizations supporting people with disabilities, including Thornhill-based DANI, Yachad and Reena.

How to Shop A Warehouse Sale
Sears Canada has been all over the news recently as liquidation sales are underway at remaining stores. But unfortunately, they’ve been unable to go out of business in style despite a ‘great’ clearance sale and major chaos in-stores.
As shared by Elizabeth MacMillan on Facebook, the liquidation sales at Sears Canada can be pretty misleading. Prices have been changing and it hasn’t been in favour of the consumer. “Be very careful and check your prices before buying. I looked at four different items I nearly bought a few weeks ago before the liquidation and all of them had their prices changed and were now higher,” she stated in her post.
Other shoppers have reported similar experiences while shopping at Sears Canada.

When Sears was asked to comment on these consumer reports, their spokesperson Vincent Power told Global News that “if there are some cases of regular pricing that may have gone up, then would be odd exceptions, a system error, and not reflecting the spirit of what we are trying to do. We’ll try to make any situation right by our customers if such an issue comes up.”
This isn’t the first time consumers have complained of liquidation prices rising. In 2015, Target struggled with the same issues of price jumping. Although Sears doesn’t come up with the liquidation prices, it still doesn’t look good for the brand as a whole.

Good news for all the diligent home shoppers out there: this is an opportune time to score some big deals at the Sears.
As you already know, Sears Canada declared bankruptcy earlier this year, and stores across Canada have been undergoing renovation or shutting down. They hope to restructure and emerge from this troublesome time in the months to come. But until business takes a better turn, it’s time to take advantage of liquidation sales. We recently checked out the Sears Home store in Scarborough to see what’s on sale.
You can find all you need to give your home a makeover in store. Whether you’re looking for a new leather couch, appliances or home decor, you’ll be able to snag some sweet deals — everything in store is 30-60% off. They’re holding nothing back, and even the fixtures and equipment are on sale.
According to an employee in-store, prices will not be getting any lower. The store’s final day open is Wednesday, August 23, so don’t miss out! Get a full list of all the other Sears’ locations closing here.

We told you in February that BCBG faced immediate bankruptcy and as a result would be closing stores. It’s happening and BCBG is shutting its doors left, right and centre. While we hate to see a struggling retailer bite the bullet, we do love a good liquidation deal! We recently checked out BCBG to see what’s on sale now that they’re closing.
If you’re in need of a party dress, eveningwear or work wear check out a BCBG store ASAP. Inventories are depleting and discounts are increasing. While you won’t find a generous selection of accessories remaining, the markdowns on tops, bottoms and dresses are worth a peak especially with wedding season upon us. Are you in need of some store fixtures? They’ve got those too…
