If being locked up for three months during the peak of the pandemic hasn’t made me sit down and learn everything I needed to know about perfecting a skincare routine, then I don’t know what will. I’m now totally obsessed with keeping my skin wrinkle-free and glowy at all times. With that being said, keeping up with the latest skin product launches are a must.

When Lise Watier introduced its Korean beauty line, I knew I needed it ASAP.

The two products that I got a hold of are the Hydrating Mask and the Cooling Hydrating Jelly. I gave these two products a shot and incorporated them into my skincare routine for one week, and let me tell you, my cheeks were baby-bottom smooth.

I cleansed my face as usual, and next, I dug into the Hydrating Mask. I put it all over my face — avoiding the eye area, of course — and left it on for 15 minutes. After my timer went off, I rinsed it off with warm water.

I could not stop touching my face, the infusion of rose petals creates an impeccable aroma, along with the enrichment of hyaluronic acid adds generous moisturization.

I’ve genuinely never found a mask that truly leaves your skin so soft and hydrated even moments after you wash it off. This mask can soothe and even up my skin tone for days.

Next in line is the Cooling Hydrating Jelly. The magic in a container is just what my face needed to finish off my beauty routine. Made with such gentle ingredients such as centella asiatica, hyaluronic acid, and fig, it’s great for my sensitive skin. Those with sensitive skin know the struggle of constantly being concerned whether a product will irritate the surface or not.

Once I lather this all over my face and neck, I instantly feel so refreshed and my skin feels nice and plump.

Both of these products are free of parabens, alcohol, and oil. Knowing this, it’s a major plus for me. There are always so many unnecessary and harmful chemicals that are in skincare. It’s so refreshing to see ingredients that aren’t totally foreign. It definitely makes me feel good about using products like these on areas of my face that are so fragile.

With Korean beauty having such a great rep in the beauty industry for being innovative and full of great ingredients, I had a feeling that I would fall in love with the Lise Watier Korean beauty line. After using these miracle workers for a week I’m totally adding these into my routine. They’re most definitely here to stay.

I can’t wait to get (and keep) my skin glow on!

If there is one thing you should know about me, it is this: I love to wash my face… a lot! I wouldn’t call it obsessive, or compulsive by any means, but as soon as I hear about the latest and greatest skincare trend, almost immediately I need to try it. You bet your ass when the Glossier store popped in Toronto, I was one of the basic’s waiting in line to get my hands on a bottle on the Milky Jelly Cleanser. However, my love for washing my face has lead me to some weird places because I have sensitive skin. Thankfully, I’ve never had any reactions to products, but I have rosacea and hormonal acne, so you can only imagine, as I explore new skincare trends, what I’m up against. This is why Korean beauty trends have always seemed like a fairly safe bet to me and why I was so fascinated and intrigued by the hype surrounding double cleansing.

If you have never heard of double-cleansing, according to Soku Glam, it is the cleansing skincare method Korean women use for clear skin.

It involves washing your face in two steps, first by using an oil-based cleanser, followed by a water-based cleanser. On several noted publications like Elle and Vox, dermatologists have raved about how this method of cleansing could help remove stubborn, pore-clogging and acne-causing impurities that remain on the skin even after washing your face once.

So you know, as a person who not only loves to wash their face, but has been trying desperately to beat their hormonal acne, I thought, “Why the hell not!”

For this week-long test, I decided to use three products — the Lise Watier Deep Cleansing Oil, Graydon Skincare’s Face Foam, and the Innisfree Intensive Hydrating Serum.

All of the products were easy to use, but from my own research, I knew that the oil-based cleanser would remove excess oil-based product residue. On the very first day, I squirted a few pumps of the Lise Watier cleansing oil into my hand and massaged it into my face, gently. It felt oddly cathartic and yet, somewhat bizarre, as my face looked like an oil spill had taken place.

I was, skeptical to say the least. But I figured, “All the beauty bloggers are doing this so it has to work,” and I remained hopeful.

I washed the oil off and applied the Graydon foam water-based cleanser to my face and finished it off with a layer of Innisfree’s hydrating serum, for good measure. Oddly enough, my skin at the end felt clean and very clear.

My skin felt as if I had given it a new life, and this whole double cleansing method took maybe ten minutes top — I was shook!

As the week went on though, I felt like I was getting a pretty solid and consistent result by double-cleansing. Each morning, I would start my day by washing my face by removing the dirt and oil from the day before, helping to balance and hydrate my skin.

There was only one problem: as the week progressed, I noticed my chin area was breaking out more and more.

Now, I am no dermatologist, but I felt like perhaps this new method of cleaning could have had something to do with it, so I researched some more!

According to the DermStore, – I should have been double-cleansing according to my skin-type.Depending on your skin type, it’s important to take into consideration what your concerns are and choosing a duo that suits your needs. For example, a better oil for my face type might have been the SHU UEMURA POREfinist2 Cleansing Oilwhich is specially made for oily and sensitive skin.

Essentially, this method is not a one-stop-shop, and is going to take time to perfect what works right for you.

While throughout the week, I enjoyed the results I was having, by the end of the week, I was super disappointed in all the breakouts I had and just how oily my skin had become.

It felt gross, and I felt self-conscious. This is why it is so important to use the right oil and cleanser! Stop by your local Sephora, or your local Innisfree store, which just opened up in Yorkdale, and the folks there will be able to direct you on how what products are best for you and how to use them effectively.

In my case, I just used the Internet and tried to go it on my own. For all you skincare fans, learn from my mistakes.

Since this test, I have stopped using the cleansing oil and continued to use the Graydon facial foam and Innisfree hydrating serum. My skin seems to be chilling out a bit and maybe when it’s settled down completely, I’ll try double-cleansing out again. Stay tuned!
