Unfortunately, we’ve seen so many store closures and bankruptcies within the last year, including of some of our favourite Canadian brands. However, not all retailers have been largely affected by the pandemic in a negative way, and have actually increased profits immensely.
The retailer saw an increase of 60% in it’s e-commerce sales which equals to $12.3 million in the fourth quarter.
Even though the company has had such success throughout these trying times, Meghan Roach understands that around 60% of Roots customers still want to be able to go into a store to try items on. So, there’s going to be quite a large focus to continue brick-and-mortar shops as well.
With Roots’ sales and profits increasing, it seems as though the brand is headed in the right direction.
Lululemon is another one of Canada’s retailers that had quite a successful year with an increase in profits. The brand actually exceeded its sales estimates and obtained double-digit sales growth in both its men’s and women’s sections.
Online sales spiked 92% since the start of the pandemic, which is of course due to the fact that customers are staying at home and therefore online shopping.
So, it’s safe to say that with this additional stream of revenue, Lululemon is expecting sales to continue to soar.

Even though we’re currently going through these unprecedented times, it’s been so heartwarming to see brands and companies pull together to do whatever they can to help. Some are manufacturing hand sanitizer, scrub caps, donating money, products, and even food to frontline workers and food banks. One brand that’s joining in the fight is beloved Canadian brand Roots.
“Supporting the communities where we live, work and do business has been at the heart of what we do for more than four decades,” said Meghan Roach, Interim Chief Executive officer in a release.
“In these unprecedented times, we are giving back in the best way we can, through the comfort of our products and by leveraging our Canadian design and manufacturing capabilities. We are proud to be doing our part to support the amazing Canadian frontline healthcare workers who are sacrificing so much and working tirelessly through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
These masks will be in accordance with all of the appropriate health and safety guidelines and the whole point is to offset the shortage of medical masks that are needed for frontline healthcare workers.
According to the brand, its first round of production of these masks sold out within hours. Plus, in addition to creating these non-medical masks, Roots is also donating 3,000 medical masks to organizations.
