The birds are chirping, and flowers are beginning to bloom; in other words, spring is near. It’s finally time to put away your winter boots and transfer your focus to spring styles! Spring seems to be the most flexible season in terms of shoes, making it all the more exciting. After extensive research (reading magazines and admiring fashion show looks), we’ve compiled a list of the top shoe trends that are set to dominate this spring.

Mesh Flats

This controversial shoe trend is on track to take over this spring! At first glance, they seem a tad intimidating, but after seeing so many great outfits paired with some version of the mesh flat (fishnet, embellished, plain), we’re officially on board.

Kitten Heels

Practicality and comfort continue to be a primary focus when it comes to footwear this spring. As much as we all love a high-heel moment, we prefer a shoe we can actually walk in, and kitten heels do the job perfectly. They give a look of sophistication without the pain.

Mary Janes

The Mary Jane shoe trend is one that constantly comes back. Over the past few years, they’ve been especially prominent. Mary Jane heels, flats, and loafers all have a place in our shoe collection this spring!

Loafers

Loafers provide a smart and refined look, working alongside the ever-popular quiet luxury trend. Like Mary Janes, they’re also super classic, making them worth investing in (in our opinion).

Platforms

Platforms, specifically on flat shoe styles (some refer to them as flatforms), are predicted to be major this spring. They add drama and height yet are still relatively comfortable to wear. Gucci is a notable designer behind the trend.

Embellished

From bows to studs to fringe, embellished shoes are having a moment! You can shop the trend by buying already embellished shoes, or you can even embellish them yourself if you’re feeling creative.

Flip Flops

Shoes that don’t provide a lot of coverage, in general, including flip flips, seem to be a trending concept in spring footwear right now! From casual beach-like flip flops to The Row’s iconic chunky leather version, you can’t go wrong adding a new pair of flip flops to your collection.

Ballet Flats

Listen, we won’t harp on about ballet flats because, by now, you’ve heard it all. But we do just want to say that the cult-favourite shoe style isn’t going away anytime soon!

The spring shoe season is a fun one. You can still get away with wearing boots if you want, but it’s also very much acceptable to wear flats and even sandals if the weather permits. It’s one of the most versatile times of the year when it comes to footwear! That being said – there are some top shoe trends that will dominate during the 2023 spring season, and may we say, we’re super stoked to start seeing them on the streets! We’ve rounded up some of the most prominent footwear trends to help get your shoe rack ready for spring!

You have yet to see the end of the ballet flats shoe trend! This spring ballet flats are going to be amongst some of the most-worn shoes, in all kinds of variations. In our opinion – the more they look like actual pointe shoes, the better.

Mary Janes

From heels to flats, we’ll be seeing a ton of Mary Jane shoes this season. Mary Janes are essentially low-cut shoes with a strap (or straps) towards the top.  A shoe that was once most commonly worn by children, has been reinvented in a variety of styles from girly to grunge. Not to mention, they’re perfect for transitioning into spring, as there is still some coverage and can be layered with socks, too!

Loafers

Loafers are another shoe that is here to stay for spring. They’re versatile shoes to style, great for going to work but also can be styled-up chic for the weekend. They also come in a variety of styles ranging from sleek and classic to chunky and modern. They definitely give off an academia/old-money vibe that can be super fun to play into!

Wedges

If you just got war flashbacks to back when wedges were popular in the past, don’t stress too hard. The thing about fashion and style is that trends always come back, and when they do, there’s always a modern twist. It’s true – wedges are back, but in a chicer way than ever before.

Pointed Toes

Although we aren’t saying goodbye completely to square-toed – it’s time to say hello again to pointed-toe shoes! All over the recent fashion weeks, we saw pointed-toe pumps everywhere we looked. As much as these shoes tend to be a little less cozy than round or square toes, you can’t deny they’re a whole lot more flattering! Pointed pumps will seemingly be the shoe of choice for fancier outings and events.

Decorations

Just as appliques, jewels, studs, and other “decorations” have been being spotted more and more within the fashion world recently, we’re about to see a surge of that make its way to shoes and accessories too! This particular trend would even be great to attempt DIY-ing for your own personal twist.

Sporty Sneakers

Sneakers always make a comeback come springtime, and although classic white sneakers never really go out of style, this spring it’s all about sporty sneakers or as some call them – “dad” sneakers. Not only is this shoe trend super comfortable, but it also goes with pretty much any outfit.

Comfort First

As all of the above shoe trends have a time and place to shine, comfort will trump all when it comes down to day-to-day wear. People are stepping outside more as the weather gets nicer, and are traditionally on their feet for longer periods of time. And who wants to compromise their comfort? We’ll see a comfort-first approach with a lot of shoe designs that are lightweight, supportive, functional, etc.

We’ve currently got our hearts set on this stunning Stone Cold Fox and Bellissma collab

There’s absolutely no denying it, wedges are back and thankfully they’re a far cry from the chunky styles you most likely rocked in the early 2000s — let’s be honest, we’re all guilty of this look. The trick is finding the right pair that feels truly fresh and sleek, like this amazing pair by LA-based brand Staud

The Sporty Look

You probably didn’t think that velcro would be making a comeback, but we’re here to tell you it is, and it’s hotter than ever. Sporty and chunky sneakers have been having a major moment this year and now designers have created a summer-appropriate version for summer. Because it’s so adorable yet functional, we’re thrilled to say that the sporty sandal isn’t going anywhere any time soon. The best part is more wallet-friendly brands like Aldo have released variations, so you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy this trend.

Platforms

Taking major notes from ’70s styles, sky-high platform sandals are back in style and we’re officially living for them. Think of them as your go-to shoe when you need an instant outfit refresher, because the bold look will instantly add a playful touch to whatever you’re wearing this summer. What we love about this style is that you can find platforms in neutral colours, or funky prints (like this amazing palm leaf printed pair from Call It Spring), with fun details like buckles, ankle straps, and even an espadrille heel.

The Naked Sandal

You’ve most likely seen this style grace the feet of fashion icon Kim Kardashian, and now it’s the perfect season for you to add it to your repertoire. The naked, clear look is totally in for summer, and you can find it in an impressive assortment of styles ranging from kitten heels and wedges, to slides and mules, so regardless of your taste and style, you’ll be able to find the perfect pair to match your taste (and budget). We’re living for this playful style from Dolce Vita, which has a fun metallic heel.

Are light-up sneakers cool? Well, Walmart wants to believe so. At Walmart’s annual shareholder meeting, the chief merchandising officer Steve Bratspies announced that the company is investing in a bold new footwear trend. What he was alluding to is the idea that Walmart expects to sell $25 million USD worth of LED light sneakers.

The sneakers get a charge from a USB port and has a battery life of 8 hours. Walmart expects to sell the shoes around $19.97 USD starting next month.

The goal for Walmart is to outsell everyone else who is selling LED light sneakers and at the $19 price point they may just undercut everyone else and be successful that way.
