There are two types of people in the world: those who love Halloween and those who don’t.
If you’re one of the festive folks that fall into the first category, chances are, you’ve already started planning your Halloween costume. And if you haven’t, well what are you waiting for? The spookiest day of the year is right around the corner!
Whether your outfitting strategy is to avoid the mainstream or to follow it, knowing what the top Halloween costumes of 2017 will come in handy. Luckily when it comes to trends, Pinterest knows what’s up, and this year experts from the social sharing site teamed up experts from Lyst to scan a combined total of 210 million monthly users to figure out exactly what the most popular Halloween costumes of the year will be.
The number one costume of the year started from the bottom — the sewer to be exact — now they’re here. Holding the top spot is none other than the creepiest clown around, Pennywise from IT, with clown makeup and costume ideas up 941% year over year on Pinterest, and fashion searches for ruffled shoulder shirts, white gloves, and pom pom sneakers up on Lyst, too.
Next up is slightly less creepy, but nonetheless strange. Just like last year, Lyst is predicting that Eleven from Stranger Things will be a popular fit, especially with the second season coming up. The band of boys will have their spotlight too, with Lyst data showing a rise in searches for trucker caps and 1980s print tees.
Coming up in third place is Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Searches for yellow dresses were on the rise this Spring thanks to the remade classic and La La Land. Yellow gowns were also a popular search term around prom, which means yellow prom dresses might be getting a second go around come the 31st.
But those aren’t the only popular costumes you can expect to see. Lyst and Pinterest predict that Wonder Woman, a Baywatch Babe, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow are all top pop culture picks, while mythical creatures like unicorns and mermaids will get their fair share of attention. Filling the list are giraffes and hippies.
If you need some more inspiration, head to Pinterest and Lyst’s shoppable boards, which are filled with items you can use to create this year’s most popular Halloween costumes.
