It’s no secret, life
can get is expensive. You have all of your basic costs (like rent, food and bills) that you need to take care of, plus clothing, entertainment, grooming and more. At StyleDemocracy, we’re always looking for new ways to cut costs and one of the ways we do so is by shopping at dollar stores or Dollarama to be more specific. You already know how much we love Dollarama, but now we have nine more reasons why! Below are 9 beauty buys from Dollarama that will save you an extra couple of bucks on your next beauty bill.
1. Cotton Swabs
A box of brand name cotton swabs can cost you anywhere from 4 to 6 bucks at your local drug store. We found a box of 350 pieces at Dollarama for $1.25.
2. Cotton Pads and Cotton Balls
A bag of cotton pads or cotton balls can run anywhere between $1.99 and $3.99 at a drug store, but we scored a bag of cotton pads from Dollarama for only one dollar! The savings might not be much, but it’s worth it in the end!
3. Nail Files
We dropped by our local drug store to check prices on nail files and found a single nail file by Revlon for $2.99. The quality of nail files doen’t vary much, so skip the name brand files and grab a pack of two for a buck at Dollarama.
4. Hair Elastics
If you’ve ever bought a pack of hair elastics, you know how fast those things disappear and why it’s hard to justify spending more than a couple of bucks on them. At Walmart, you can grab a 30-piece pack for $5.26, but at Dollarama you can get a pack of 24 (without the metal part, too!) for only $1.
5. Bobby Pins
The only accessory that has a better disappearing act than hair elastics would have to be bobby pins. A pack of 75 will run you $5.27 at Walmart, or you could spend $1 and get 60 at Dollarama.
6. Hair Brushes
A paddle hair brush from your local drug store will typically run you anywhere between $5 to $12 dollars and speciality brushes will cost you upwards of $20. If you’re just looking for a basic paddle brush, we spotted some at Dollarama for just $2.50.
7. Disposable Makeup Sponges
You shouldn’t have to spend a lot of money on something you’re going to throw out after a few uses! A small bag of disposable makeup sponges costs around $3 to $4 at a drug store but you can find a bag of 24 for just $1.25 at Dollarama.
Dollar stores often receive beauty products at deep discounts from retailers that need to ditch their excess goods, which means big deals for you! We spotted CoverGirl’s LashBlast Luxe mascara at Dollarama for just $3, comparable to $6.97 at Walmart. When purchasing cosmetics from the dollar store, check to see if there are any expiration dates and make sure the packaging is sealed – if all’s well, you’re good to go!
9. Nail Polish*
Unlike many cosmetics, nail polish does not go bad or expire, which is why you shouldn’t worry about buying Essie nail polishes at Dollarama! The colors are from seasons past, but for $3 a bottle, you can’t go wrong – especially since they run for about $11.99 in stores. If you are buying nail polish from the dollar store, make sure to give it a good shake and if it’s a little thick, you can use nail polish remover or thinner to thin it out.
