What not to love about Canadians? We’re ridiculously polite, resilient from all those cold winters, and judging by the list below, often very attractive. In honour of Valentine’s Day, we’ve put together a list of 7 celebrities who’s love blew in from the north.
1. Blake Lively + Ryan Reynolds
Lively met Vancouver-born Reynolds while filming The Green Lantern in early 2010, and the two shared a platonic friendship. However, they didn’t stay just friends for long, with their love story sounding like it was ripped from the pages of a rom-com script. “About a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and we were both single we went on a double date – she was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl – and it was like the most awkward date for the respective parties because we were just like fireworks coming across,” Reynolds told People in 2016. Fast-forward few years, and the couple (who regularly poke fun at each other on social media) is now married with two adorable daughters.
2. Eva Mendez + Ryan Gosling

Now onto another lucky woman who snagged herself a hot Canuck named Ryan – Eva Mendez. Mendez and Gosling were costars in The Place Beyond the Pines, and seemed to make their relationship official around September 2011 when they were spotted enjoying a magical, PDA-packed date at Disneyland. While the couple has remained notoriously private about their romance (they are rarely ever photographed together), they still appear to be going strong; they have two daughters named Esmeralda and Amada, and in an interview with Hello! Gosling said that the only quality he looks for in a woman is “that she’s Eva Mendes. There’s nothing else I’m looking for.” How’s that for a sweet Canadian boy?
3. Khloe Kardashian + Tristan Thompson
It’s about time the Kardashians added a Canadian to their ever-expanding crew! Khloe Kardashian met Toronto-born basketball player Tristan Thompson (who currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers) at a group dinner in 2016, where they instantly hit it off. Since then they have shown no shortage of PDA, and are expecting their first child this Spring. Lucky for Khloe, Tristan appears to live up to the stereotype of being a down-to-earth, good Canadian guy; inspired by his little brother who has epilepsy, Thompson created the Amari Thompson Foundation to raise funds for Epilepsy Toronto. Also, according to his Instagram he enjoys a good trip to Tim Hortons, which makes us like him even more.
4. Carrie Underwood + Mike Fisher
In 2008 Carrie Underwood’s bassist wanted to introduce her to his friend, Canadian NHL player Mike Fisher (who was then playing for the Ottawa Senators). To avoid a potentially awkward first date, Underwood suggested Fisher come meet her at a backstage meet-and-greet after her concert in Ottawa. Needless to say, their chemistry was off the charts; the adorable couple tied the knot in 2010 and welcomed a son named Isaiah in 2015.
5. Katharine McPhee + David Foster
Despite a big age difference, singer/actress Katharine McPhee has appeared to have found love with Canadian music legend David Foster. McPhee, 33, and Foster, 68, have been showing off some serious PDA in recent months, and the duo even enjoyed a romantic European vacation together over the holidays. Although their romance appears to be somewhat new, the two have been friends for years, with McPhee telling Health “I’m really, really fond of him, and I think he’s an incredible person. I’ve known him since I was 21-years-old, you know? He produced my first single. So he’s been really good to me.”
6. Gene Simmons + Shannon Tweed
KISS rocker Gene Simmons first met Canadian model Shannon Tweed (who is originally from St. John’s Newfoundland) at a Playboy mansion party in 1983. After becoming Playboy’s Playmate of the Year in 1982, Tweed was dating Hef and living in the mansion at the time. Simmons and Tweed hit it off right away, and the couple was together for 28 years before finally tying the knot in 2011. They have two kids, Nick and Sophie, and their family life was documented on the reality series Gene Simmons Family Jewels from 2006-2012.
7. Selena Gomez + Justin Bieber

After dating on and off for years (their last split was in 2014), it’s obvious that Selena Gomez just can’t quit Canadian bad boy Justin Bieber. The two have appeared to have rekindled their romance in recent months, with Jelena fans flipping out over pics of them on a sweet bicycle ride, attending bible study and kissing at Bieber’s hockey game. Despite Selena’s mom admitting to Gossip Cop she is “not happy” with the couple’s latest reunion, Gomez’s relationship with the Biebs appears to be moving forward. Shows you just how irresistible Canadians are, eh?
