IKEA fanatics living in downtown Toronto, it’s time to get excited! A brand new IKEA storefront will be opening sometime in late 2021 or early 2022.
The famous furniture store will be located in the Aura Retail Podium at 382 Yonge Street, which was previously a Bed Bath & Beyond location not too long ago.
Finally, Torontonians won’t have to trek outside of the city to get those great finds.
“IKEA Canada is committed to becoming more accessible by bringing our stores closer to where Canadians live, work and socialize. As one of the fastest-growing cities in North America with a vibrant and diverse community, Toronto was a natural choice for us to launch our first downtown store,” said Michael Ward, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer at IKEA Canada in a press release.
The store is said to span over 66,000 square feet which includes the first and second floor of the IKEA downtown location. However, the layout will be a bit different than what you may be used to. It will follow a new design that was created for IKEA stores in city centers, like the ones in London, England, and Paris, France.
There will be around 2,000 units of smaller home furnishings which is perfect for Toronto residents, and larger items on display for delivery.
The good news is that although the space is smaller than most IKEA stores, it’ll still offer delicious food for dine-in or takeout. Phew!
