The Globe and Mail is reporting that luxury sportswear brand Kit and Ace will be closing stores in the U.S., The U.K., and Australia. The Kit and Ace brand was founded by JJ Wilson and his Father Chip Wilson in an effort to provide a high-end alternative to Lulu Lemon.
The Vancouver-based brand is known for luxurious athletic inspired clothing that can be work casually. With initial success, the brand has faced concerns over quality, and if the quality of the products warranted the steep price.
Although Kit and Ace is closing down stores internationally the brand will focus on online sales and through their Canadian outlets.
In addition to the closure of stores outside of Canada, the brand has also had to downsize some of their operations, Kit and Ace announced that it intended to lay off 20% of their head office staff.
It will be interesting to see how the brand maintains operations with the new restructuring. If you’re a fan of the brand hopefully with a smaller operational scope the brand will improve the product line and focus on providing a superior brand experience.
