Now that Labour Day has passed, marking the unofficial end of summer and beginning of fall, we’re officially in an autumn state of mind – no matter how warm it may be outside. While we wait for the weather to catch up to the season, there’s no better way to embrace fall than experimenting with some new makeup trends! This fall, there’s a recurring theme of boldness, from red lips to grungy glam, we can’t wait to try these makeup looks!
In junction with fall fashion, red is also having a major moment in the makeup scene! Red lips will always be a classic, but this fall they’re going to be bigger than ever. Find yourself a great velvety red lipstick to add to your makeup stash and play around with various looks! We find a red lip always looks best with a more neutral makeup featuring a winged liner.
Latte makeup took the world by storm this summer, and it’s not going anywhere for fall! We put together a guide on how to achieve the TikTok-viral makeup trend, and it’s actually quite easy! Who doesn’t love a bronzy makeup look?
As mentioned, it’s all about being bold this fall. So it’s time to try all the bold-eye makeup looks your heart desires! From heavy eyeliner, sparkly shadows, pigmented colours, and literally everything in between – it’s all on trend.
Although in the fall and winter months, some prefer a more matte finish, you can still achieve a glowy and healthy-looking complexion by having a great base of skin prep before you apply whatever foundation you want! We’ve been loving Rhode’s Glazing Milk for under makeup to provide a super luscious healthy skin finish.
As seen with the latte makeup trend as well as the newer coined strawberry girl makeup trend – something they both have in common is following a monochromatic colour scheme. There’s just something so chic about sticking with one colour for an entire makeup look, it’s universally flattering! Colours like brown, red, and even purple would work best for a monochromatic look.
Grungy glam, referencing ‘90s makeup looks is going to be a favourite makeup look for the season. To achieve the look you’ll need to apply thick eyeliner, a smoky eye, and some shimmer for the whole “glam” effect. For the lips go with a darker nude with some gloss on top – and voila! You look like you’re ready to walk down a ’90s runway.
Tying in with grungy glam is lined lips! The kind of lined lips that are a shade or two darker than the lip base – in true ‘90s essence. Throw a gloss on top for the perfect finishing touch.

2023 is officially in full swing, we’ve already talked about the fashion trends that will be prevalent this year, so now it’s time to talk about some beauty and makeup trends! From underpainting to the butterfly haircut, we’ve rounded up some of the top beauty trends that should be on your radar this year!
Although underpainting isn’t a new concept, it’s currently all the rage, thanks to celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips (famously known for being Kendall Jenners and Hailey Bieber’s makeup artist) for bringing it to the public’s attention again. If you haven’t heard of underpainting, the idea is to contour and conceal – before putting on your foundation to give an overall more blended and natural look. The key is using a lighter coverage foundation, so you don’t make the initial steps disappear entirely.
Light coverage foundations and tinted serums alike will become even more popular throughout 2023. People are ditching their full-coverage foundation and opting for something more natural. An amazing drugstore option is L’Oréal’s True Match Tinted Serum.
As much as skincare isn’t really a trend, it’s self-care – 2023 is taking skincare regimes to a whole new level. Kind of tying in with light coverage makeup. People are choosing to invest in their skincare to get their skin at its most glowy and healthy state, rather than investing in makeup that simply covers it up.
Throughout 2022 we saw bleached brows become popular amongst some trendy individuals. At first, it seemed only the bravest trend-setters were participating in the bleached eyebrow trend, and as of lately it’s becoming a mainstream beauty practice.
Just as sparkles are having a trending moment in fashion, the sparkle trend is also getting carried over into makeup. The shimmery eyeshadow look that is typically sported in the evening, is now socially “acceptable” to wear casually in the daytime. So, if you want to swipe some shimmer on your lids before heading into work, we’re here for it.
Choppy layers, face-framing pieces, mullets, and “butterfly” cuts aren’t going away anytime soon! One reason people are loving these layered looks is that it allows you to experiment with different hairstyles that give a shorter-cut look, without having to actually cut off too much length.
As with pretty much any other “natural” trend, it’s not actually entirely natural, but it gives that illusion. This natural nail doesn’t mean to stop getting your nails done, in fact, it means getting your nails perfectly manicured, filed to a natural almond shape, not too long, and in a neutral colour. So in short, not really natural at all. It’s giving “no makeup, makeup”.
We’re going back to 90’s grunge makeup days with dark liner making a major comeback. The messier and more smudged the better. Pair a dramatic, lined eye with a lightweight makeup base and you’re set! Think Avril Lavigne or 90s runway.
That’s right, highlighters are coming back, although they never really fully left, they’ve taken some time out of the spotlight. We’re getting a flashback to the good ol’ Champagne Pop days. With the glowy and highlighted trend it isn’t just about wearing a shimmery highlighter, it’s about haven’t the dewiest skin you can achieve to go along with it – the goal is to trick people into thinking your face just might be wet. A blend of motorizing skincare, a dewy foundation, and a trusty highlight should do the trick.
As more body care brands pop up – like JLO Beauty for instance, it’s becoming a normal practice to treat the skin on our bodies just as well as the skin on our face! With care products, skin glows, and more – your body deserves some love and attention, too!

As the transition into fall begins and the air begins to cool, we can’t help but notice particular hairstyles and cuts are on the rise. Throughout summer, all too often we start the day with a certain hairstyle and then end up throwing it in a hair tie because it’s just too hot to deal with. Fall is the perfect time to play around with different hairstyles because it’s the sweet spot in between summer humidity and winter snow, here in Canada anyway.
Hair can be so expressive, of someone’s individual identity. Which is why it’s so fun to try out different hair trends and see what works for your style and particular hair type – and who knows, maybe you’ll find your new go-to! Some trends we’ve been spotting lately have been strong enough to carry over from past seasons, and some are fresh and new.
Wavy hair, or “beach waves” as some call it, is a hairstyle we saw all throughout summer and it’s here to stay! Having a nice wave throughout your hair gives it a perfect amount of volume and texture without looking too formal. You can achieve the popular wavy-hair trend with the help of Drybar’s ‘The Beach Bender’ hot tool (which is currently on sale at Chatters!). It’s super easy to use, and provides the exact look that we’re referencing!
This model-off-duty hairstyle continues to stay on trend! We love a sleek bun or ponytail for how easy it is to accomplish, yet it always ends up looking so tailored and put-together. Bad hair day? Sleek it back into a ponytail. Hair needs a wash but you’re in a rush? Sleek bun. Your best friend when achieving the sleek pulled-up hairstyle is having second or third-day hair, a hair gel to smooth it all out and a boar-bristle brush to help avoid bumps while you pull your hair back.
Blowouts have been having a major moment over the past couple of years! The more volume the better. Luckily you don’t need to go to a blow-dry bar to achieve a gorgeous blowout, thanks to Revlon’s viral One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer! It makes giving yourself a blowout so much easier than with the old-school hair dryer and round brush. A voluminous blowout in the fall is *chefs kiss*.
In terms of trending haircuts, it’s all about layers right now! There are tons of different layered haircuts and they all seem to be trending. Short or long, having an abundance of layers with some face-framing bangs or pieces to style is all the rage. Some of the boldest haircuts within the layered hair trend are known as wolf cuts, shags, and of course the boldest of all, the mullet.
Side parts are coming back to play! Not so long ago side parts were considered somewhat dated and middle parts took over. But now the side part seems to be coming back strong! Especially in an editorial way. We can’t help but notice the controversial side-part making more and more appearances on the runway and in magazines. That being said, part your hair however you like, regardless of what’s trending, and don’t let anyone tell you the way you part your hair is out of style!
The level of chic that a bob creates is unmatched. If you’re sick of your hair and want something new and fresh… Why not give it a chop? Sleek bobs, as well as textured bobs, are super trendy right now. Even Emma Chamberlain is currently sporting one, and we all know anything she does or wears becomes instantly trendy. The best part about this chic haircut is it’s a great excuse to refresh your hair and make it healthy again! There’s no better time than now to chop off those dead ends.
Although most hair colours don’t really go out of style, there always seems to be a hair colour that dominates the scene in terms of trendiness. In the past it has been brunette to blonde ombré and currently, it’s copper. Copper hair looks good on virtually anyone and any skin tone. As fall approaches it gives off the perfect autumnal vibes, we’re obsessed!
We can’t get enough of this hair trend! It makes styling the hair so fun and playful. Simply add some cute barrettes or bobby pins to any hairstyle and you’re set! It can even elevate a simple ponytail in a literal snap.
The queen of headbands, Blair Waldorf, would definitely approve of this trend. Whether it be fabric or structured, headbands in all styles are making their way back just in time for fall! Who doesn’t love a full head-to-toe preppy look every once in a while? Embrace the prep-school, old-money vibes by simply putting on a cute headband.
Last but not least, is simply your hair in its natural glory. No matter what your natural hair texture is, it has become way more accepting – some may even say trendy to wear it just as is. There’s something beautiful about accepting our natural hair and not trying to manipulate it to look a certain way. Of course, you can always assist your natural hair with some product like a leave-in conditioner or even some mousse to help maintain frizz and let your natural texture shine!

Just like fashion, the beauty world is also is cyclical in nature and as the new year approaches, it’s time to start preparing for all the upcoming beauty trends. If the runways and social media have been any indicator, 2020 is going to be an incredible year for beauty trends. We broke down 10 of the biggest trends to keep an eye out for so you can stay ahead of the biggest trends of the new year.
HBO’s hit show Euphoria wasn’t just a hit with Gen Z-ers this year, it was also a huge hit in the beauty world, too, as proven by numerous runways at New York Fashion Week in September. Makeup artist and founder of Hey Babe Cosmetics, Nicole Abbott, predicts that Euphoria-inspired makeup will carry over into 2020. Prepare to see more glitter and shine and super-bright hues whether on the lips or eyes, similar to what you might have seen in the 70s.
Glowing skin and the no-makeup look will transfer into 2020, according to Abbott. Hugely popular throughout 2019, the easy, versatile, and universally flattering look will thankfully stick around in 2020, so you can (thankfully) say goodbye to the time-consuming trend of contouring.

In addition to 70s glam, we’re also going to see 60s-inspired, neon eyeliner in bold greens, aquamarine, and yellow, as seen during Spring/Summer 2020 runway shows of Helmut Lang, Versace, and Nicole Miller, among others. This is a quick and easy way to add a subtle touch of colour to your eyes without going overboard.

In 2020, you’ll be able to give your go-to black mascara a break and opt for something more on the playful side. If you’re ready to make people do a double-take layer on a deep-blue, green, or bright-pink for a bold look.

Slick, translucent, and vinyl-looking lips were all the rage during fashion week in both New York and Paris, as endorsed by some of the world’s biggest fashion houses, including Sies Marjan, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel.

While we saw 90s fashion have a major moment in 2019, we’re going to see the return of an incredibly popular beauty trend from that decade gain popularity once again in 2020: visible lipliner. Already frequently seen on Kim Kardashian West, Gigi Hadid, and Beyoncé, simply
line your lips using a shade that’s only slightly darker than the lipstick you’re using, preferably in a nude or brown shade.
A trend we’re excited to give a try is pastel lids. This look is soft, playful, and downright dreamy. You can stick to using just one colour, or you can get really creative and opt for a multicolour look like this.

Thankfully big, bold brows aren’t going anywhere in 2020. Only in the new year, we’re going to more laminated brows, which are a semi-permanent treatment that delivers the look of microblading, without the use of needles. Basically, the microblading alternative fills the gaps in brows and gives them the illusion of fullness, in a fast, noninvasive way.
Your eyeliner doesn’t have to glide along your lash line anymore. Rather, you should line outside of the lines to recreate this trendy, floating look that’s incredibly easy to master, as seen above on Shat Mitchell.
Gone are the days of solely only seeing women and guys in punk bands rock bold statement nails. In 2020, we’re going to see a lot more men sporting nail polish as they’re becoming even more expressive and experimental with their style. We’ve already seen the likes of Pete Davidson, Harry Styles, Marc Jacob, Anwar Hadid, and ASAP Rocky rock nail polish, and hopefully, we’ll start to see a lot more men on board.
