The Dyson Chitosan™ [chi-to-san] line is currently made up of a pre-styling cream, which comes in 4 options, and a post-styling serum (and their respective refills), developed to give flexible, long-lasting hold to your styling routine!
As implied in the name, the key hero ingredient in the Dyson Chitosan™ products is chitosan, a complex macromolecule, derived from oyster mushrooms.
The Pre-style cream helps lock in flexible hold and prime your hair ready for styling, while the Post-style serum is designed to keep your hair styling in place while providing hydration, instant shine, and definition.
Whether you have straight or coily hair, these styling products were designed to work for anyone wanting to retain their hairstyles for longer, while maintaining a natural look and feel. Click here to find which pre-styling cream might work best for you!

Over the years, Dyson has revolutionized the way we care for our hair. Not only has the renowned brand set standards for the products we use to clean our hair, but they’ve set new standards for the beauty industry as well.
In 2018, Dyson launched the Supersonic Hair Dryer, which is quieter and quicker than the average hairdryer. Shortly after, the Dyson Airwrap was released, which uses air and lets users dry and curl their hair at the same time. Talk about time savers!
After almost a decade of research, a $174 million investment in research with hair scientists, engineers, and professionals, and 600 hours in user trials, Dyson has released its first-ever hair straightener.
The new Dyson Corrale Straightener launched in stores on March 10, and just like the other hair tools in the Dyson family, it has some pretty unique features.
Made from manganese copper alloy, the patented design flexes and adapts to hair and styles with half the damage that comes from average hair straighteners. Not to mention, it promises to reduce frizz and flyaways.
It also boasts precise heat settings of 165°C (330°F), 185°C (365°F), and 210°C (410°F); intelligent heat control; corded or cord-free use; and battery technology with up to 30 minutes of cordless styling and a recharge time of 70 minutes.
But if you’ve tried any of the other Dyson products, you know that the quality and the performance are going to be amazing and worth every penny.
If you’re interested in learning more, you can visit the Dyson Demo store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto or CF Pacific Centre in Vancouver to test it out.

Back in the day, returning home with some solid closet additions you couldn’t find anywhere else was reason enough to make a trip south of the border. With the recent arrival of great retail options in Canada, the increase in popularity of online shopping, and the decline of the Canadian dollar, crossing the border to shop is no longer necessary – completely fun, but not necessary.
It wasn’t too long ago that you needed be on American soil to step inside your nearest Saks Fifth Avenue or Nordstrom location. Of course, both luxury department stores made a long awaited and well-publicized arrival in Toronto in 2016, followed by their ever-popular off-price stores, Saks OFF Fifth and Nordstrom Rack (once major draws of a U.S. shopping trip) shortly after.
Instagram/@suemagblue
Not only is the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) home these coveted (and much appreciated) new affordable retail additions, we’ve also seen the arrival of shiny new outlet malls – something that was always a lure of Buffalo, New York for GTA residents.
A far cry from the once-tired Dixie Outlet Mall or the designer store-lacking Tanger Outlets in Cookstown, Ontario that the Toronto kids grew up with, the GTA’s outlet malls are now filled with all the luxe options your heart and closet desires.
Facebook/Toronto Premium Outlets
Opened in 2013, it very recently underwent a 140,000 square-foot expansion to include 40 more designer outlets. The recent expansion even features Aritzia’s first North American outlet. Located just a 40-minute drive from the downtown core, this mall is definitely worth the trip to Halton (trust me).
Further removing the need for a trip across the border, American stores to touch down in Toronto in the past two years include Seattle-based heritage retail brand Filson (694 Queen St. W), Burton Snowboards (98 Ossington), and UNTUCKit (Sherway Gardens), the later of which features Wayne Gretzky as a brand ambassador.

The seemingly perpetual revamp of Yorkdale Shopping Centre has also made it easier for Toronto residents to get their hands on things like Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery, with the arrival of its first Canadian boutique in summer 2017. On the furniture front, the beloved Restoration Hardware opened the first Canadian super-sized flagship concept store in Yorkdale Shopping Centre in fall 2017. The first Canadian freestanding Dyson store – the fourth in North America – now also occupies real estate in the upscale mall.
For example, in 2017, UK-based fashion brand Hunter – makers of the popular go-to rain boot – chose Toronto as the home of its first North American location, making it only one of three globally.
On a temporary basis, the rise of the popularity of the pop-up in Toronto has also reduced the need to cross the border to find unique items. For example, iconic U.S. toy brand – and a longtime holiday staple – FAO Schwartz has popped up in Hudson’s Bay stores for the season, removing the need for a pre-Christmas trip to New York City.

With a physical trip, there’s the added cost of gas or transportation and accommodation if you plan to stay the night – and if a major shopping spree is what you’re in the market for, you will probably want to stay as long as possible to (legally) increase your duty-free limits – you’ll have to add the hotel or Airbnb stay to the tab, too. You are not entitled to a duty-free allowance on trips less than 24 hours. For longer than 24 hours, your duty-free allowance is $200, a figure that increases to $800 per person for trips longer than 24 hours.

Admittedly, even with the currency conversion, you can still sometimes find better discounts in the U.S. – if you’re willing to put in the effort.
So, is cross-border shopping still worth it for you? Well, if you have a soft spot for Target (the retail giant failed miserably in Canada, as you’ll recall), then maybe. Otherwise, keep your dollars for local finds.

Dyson products are in a class of their own. Often expensive, but worth it. Dyson has been moving away from just creating vacuum cleaners and have moved into a variety of household products.
Dyson’s newest gift is dubbed the Dyson Airwrap and is a hair styling tool that curls your hair with the use of air and aerospace physics to avoid heat damage. According to Hypebeast, Dyson took six years and used over 230 engineers and scientist, spending $31 million USD to create the new device.
$550 may seem expensive, but knowing Dyson and how all of their product lines are priced high, it probably won’t matter. The company has had home run after home run and it’s looking like this half a grand device will probably be successful as well.
According to Dyson, the Airwrap’s technology is based on a physics concept known as the Coanda effect – a phenomenon that created aerodynamic lift in aeroplanes. The devices are powered by Dyson’s newest V9 motor and deliver high-pressure air through its circular barrel which in turns creates the Coanda effect ( we aren’t scientists so go easy on us).
The Airwardap will come with a group of attachments that will allow you to curl your hair if it’s dry or wet and will allow you to create different styling effects.
You can head over to Dyson’s Website to check it out or visit their Yorkdale retail location.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of exciting product launches, but sometimes – they really aren’t worth the extra spend.
We’ve all been there, $30 on a mascara that promises the world, or a serum claiming to be the fountain of youth. And while it’s nice to test them out once in a while, it could end up setting you back financially over time.
Luckily, we’ve cleared the clutter to present three products that are worth the splurge, and two products that are better off stocked on the store shelf.
From makeup brushes to skin serums and beyond, we’ve got you covered.
Your favourite beauty vloggers are onto something because this brush is all that and then some. Made with over 250,000 individual fibers, you can use this for your foundations, bronzers, powders – pressed and loose – and other skincare products in your rotation. If you want to give this brush a feel, head into Holt Renfrew and give it a test drive.
In no world should you ever spend $75 on a lip balm, because honestly, you’re probably going to misplace it. Of course, Guerlain’s sleek packaging and exotic ingredients are an added hook, but we simply can’t justify it. We think you might be better suited to a drugstore brand that can offer the same end result, but without the frill.
With serums on the market for $10, it’s easy to shy away from this price point – but it’s worth it. Personally, this product is a vanity mainstay, and has done wonders for my complexion. Shani Darden also happens to be a favourite among stars such as Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian, so your money is in good company. If you’re looking to give your skin some extra TLC, look no further.
Please don’t spend $350 on an SPF 20. While we love Shiseido, this steep price point is in no way worth it. According to skincancer.org, an SPF over 15 would be best suited for your skin, but it’s recommended to opt for an SPF of 30 or higher. We recommend speaking to a doctor and purchasing their preference.
The creators of this cult vacuum mecca not so recently came out with a very expensive – but very worthwhile hair tool. This product can be used for straight, wavy, curly and even coiled hair, and will dry your strands with a high-speed, powerful digital monitor. This intelligent and controlled heat will minimize damage and promote healthy and shiny hair. Now, you can also purchase this iconic hairdryer in a new Black/Nickel colourway.
