Oh, the disappointment! After finally being granted the Forever 21 you’d been wishing for in your local mall, it’s closed in a matter of months. The restructuring of the Forever 21 mecca came with the company’s decision to file for bankruptcy in both the U.S. and Canada in late September. If you’re a fan of sustainable fashion, you’ll be happy to hear that a very popular American brand — that Meghan Markle’s a big fan of — is popped up in Canada for a limited time.
Traditionally available online only, the radically transparent clothing brand, Everlane, is currently popped up in two Nordstrom locations in Canada.
For those unaware, Everlane focuses on ethically made modern essentials for men and women. The brand offers transparency on everything there is to know about the brand, including where the products are made and the exact product breakdown.
Through a partnership with Nordstrom, you can touch, feel, and try on a curated selection of Everlane products in-store.
From now until November 17, you can visit the Nordstrom pop-in stores in Toronto and Vancouver. The Everlane Canada pop-up features the ever-popular Everlane cashmere sweater, recycled down-filled outerwear, the world’s cleanest denim, and carbon-neutral shoes for men and women.

Retailers that primarily live online — like Amazon and Everlane — are seeing huge success without brick and mortar shops. But as more people open up to the world of online shopping, more people are taking advantage of its vulnerabilities.
Back in 2014, “showrooming” was a growing shopping trend. The practise, which sees people browse traditional brick and mortar stores, only to later buy online, has been an issue for brick and mortar stores. But the latest shopping trend mainly affects shoppers.
“Porch pirates” are the latest trend on the rise associated with online shopping.
According to CTV News, “porch pirates” are on the rise, and they are stealing packages outside of people’s homes. Canadian online shoppers are being warned by a branch of Crime Stoppers to watch out for them.
But unfortunately, there’s not much an online shopper can do once the theft has been committed.
One Toronto resident we spoke to frequently has packages stolen from her east end home. After she began to notice a pattern of theft, she spoke with a neighbour who, shockingly, had experienced the same thing. The neighbour set up a security system and caught the thief on camera. However, when taken to the police, there was nothing that could be done. “Unless he is caught in the act, there is nothing they can do about it.”

Online shopping delivery thefts are a crime of opportunity.
Amanda Allen from Crime Stoppers Windsor and Essex County told CTV News that shoppers should have a plan in place for deliveries made when they’re not home.
Allen says the best way to avoid “porch pirates” is to put up deterrents like security cameras, which can help police prosecute thieves. Another option is to have a neighbour pick up packages while you’re away.
However, not everyone has the luxury of a friendly neighbour that stays at home during the day.

There are other options for those online shoppers who don’t have someone to vouch for their deliveries.
Free storage services like PenguinPickUp make for excellent options. The growing service has over 70 locations across Canada, and works with companies like Walmart and FedEx to guard packages until they can be picked up.
Amazon, many online shoppers’ favourite place to shop, offers shoppers the option of picking up parcels at Canada Post locations, or having them delivered to lockers in the Toronto and Vancouver areas.
While it takes a bit of convenience out of online shopping, it’s much less exhausting than playing detective — or losing out on your delivery.
And if all else fails, well, you could always try taking matters into your own hands like the YouTuber below.

While traditional retailers typically mark their products up 5-6 times, Everlane marks theirs up by just 2-3. They break down the cost of product — from materials to labour to transportation, duties, and hardware — for all of their shoppers to see.
As you can see above, shoppers are basically already getting the best price Everlane can offer when they shop online, so hosting Black Friday and Boxing Day sales don’t really make sense for the retailer. They could actually argue that they offer 60% off all the time — that’s just how their prices are built.
Everlane doesn’t participate in the typical price slashing that most other brands and retailers do.
But if you are looking for steals and deals on the Everlane site, they actually offer something a lot more interesting than a classic sale section.

The Everlane Choose What You Pay section is the brand’s version of a sale.
They actually describe the section as better than a sale. Here, shoppers will find a wide variety of products, chosen by the Everlane team themselves. Products will vary throughout the year, but the offerings include a selection of footwear, denim, tops, outerwear and more, over both the men and women’s categories.
Shoppers won’t find Everlane’s classic staples in the Choose What You Pay section, but they will find a big selection of high-quality, stylish, and affordable items.

How the Everlane Choose What You Pay section works:
The process is actually quite simple! Just head to the Choose What You Pay section and start browsing. Once you click on a product, three prices will pull up: the lowest to the highest.
When you click a price, you’ll get a description of how much you’re actually saving on the original price, as well as how much Everlane makes off of the price and what they are using the markup to cover. For example, the lowest price covers development and shipping. The middle price covers development, shipping, and overhead to pay Everlane’s team. The highest price covers development, shipping, overhead for the team, and allows them to continue to create new products.
You choose what you pay and how much you’d like to support the brand. It’s a win for you and for Everlane’s team.

Everlane’s Black Friday initiatives are pretty cool, too.
While shoppers aren’t scoring crazy deals like they would at other retailers, they can take solace in the fact that by shopping with Everlane, they’re helping solve global issues.
This year for Black Friday, Everlane has partnered with Surfrider Foundation to get plastic off of beaches, before they hit the ocean. Cigarette butts, plastic bottles, and straws are among the top 10 things found on beaches across the world, and as you probably know, that’s not good for our wildlife or our water.
For every order placed on Everlane during Black Friday, they will donate $13 to Surfrider to help fund beach cleanups across North America. Essentially, one order equals one pound of plastic off our beaches.
Everlane is working towards a goal of $250,000 to remove 20,000 pounds of plastic. So, if you’re feeling charitable, make an order and help some sea turtles while you’re at it!
