We all know that Toronto is getting to be a pretty expensive city to not only live in, but also do things in. Restaurants, theatre tickets, even museum passes seem to cost an arm and a leg so whenever you have the option to snag a freebie, we say: TAKE IT. Because Toronto is such a big city, we have our fair share of free February events to enjoy when our wallets are tight or running on empty.

Everyone loves a good laugh, right? Check out Comedy on College this month in our city’s Little Italy neighbourhood. You’ll enjoy a mix of super talented, up and coming comedians as well as tasty eats and beer — what’s not to love?

On Saturday, February 8, head to Yorkville for the 15th annual Icefest which besides being totally free, will be a totally rad ’80s themed extravaganza with fun activities for all. The festival includes over 70,000 pounds of ice that have been made into exquisite sculptures.

If awards season is your favourite season, then don’t miss watching the ceremony on the big screen this year at the Revue Cinema on Roncy. The free event also includes trivia, prizes, and of course, champagne!

Just because it’s mega cold outside, it doesn’t mean you have to stay cooped up indoors all winter long. On February 11, make your way to Evergreen Brick Works to enjoy a walk in the Don Valley Brick Works Park after dark with expert naturalists from 6-8 p.m.

On Saturday evenings until February 15, grab your pals and skate for free at the Harbourfront Centre for DJ Skate Nights. There’s an exciting lineup of DJs (duh!) to skate along to from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m.

We all know how expensive it can be buying passes to museums. If you’ve been itching to experience the ROM, then make sure you add this free event to your cal. With extended hours, you’ll have tons of time to explore the museum’s galleries and collections, all free of charge.

It’s back! On until March 1 in the Distillery District is Toronto Light Fest. This Instagrammable festival is free to check out and it makes going out in the winter totally worth it. Expect to see incredible light installations and sculptures designed by super talented local and international artists.

From February 17 until March 30, make your way over to Woodbine Beach for Winter Stations. This annual public arts festival will feature some incredible works from talented artists that follow this years theme of “beyond the five senses.”
