Although Victoria Day weekend may feel a bit different than in previous years, you can still have fun! There are a variety of activities you can partake in to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend time with your loved ones outdoors. If you’re heading out to an outdoor public place, be sure to follow social distancing rules and stay safe!
There are so many local restaurants to satisfy all of your long weekend cravings. Support small businesses and grab a delicious meal to enjoy at your home!
With the warm weather officially here, why not spend your time outdoors? There are a ton of trails to walk, hike, bike, and even some lovely waterfalls to see in the area. Get some fresh air and enjoy the views.
There are a bunch of sales happening for the long weekend! Browse through all of your fave brands and score deep savings. We can’t think of a better way to spend the holiday than to shop ’til you drop.
Another way to take advantage of the awesome weather is to go on a picnic with your quarantine group. Grab all of the snacks and goodies you need and head on out to your local park to set up.
Breathtaking gardens can be found all across Toronto and the GTA that will instantly brighten your mood. Gardens to visit are the Royal Botanical Gardens, Toronto Botanical Gardens, Casa Loma Gardens, and Edwards Gardens—just to name a few.
Either (safely) plan out your very own fireworks show or wait until you hear ones happening in your neighbourhood. If you do plan on executing your own light performance, be sure to check out the rules for fireworks in your area.

Due to social distancing, we won’t be able to celebrate the long weekend as we would have in the past. We’re unfortunately unable to venture up to cottages or even corral on beaches to watch beautiful fireworks displays. However, this year you don’t have to forgo fireworks altogether because there’s a virtual version you can enjoy.
The theme park filmed a video back in 2019 (aka pre-quarantine) that features six minutes of stellar fireworks. We know it doesn’t replace the feeling of watching fireworks in person, but you have to admit that a virtual show is better than no show at all, right?
Safe to say that these shows aren’t thrown together on the fly.

The final long weekend of summer has arrived, and if you’re sticking around town, there are plenty of free events happening in Toronto over Labour Day weekend. Whether you’re looking to get pampered, have a sweat session, or take in some culture, we’ve got something on this list to occupy your time.
If you’re at Yorkdale Shopping Centre this weekend, be sure to book an appointment with Dyson for a free styling session! An in-store stylist will give you a personalized walkthrough of Dyson’s innovative hair products and give you a free wash and style — perfect for if you’ve have any special events coming up this weekend. Styling sessions are by appointment only, so be sure to book online before you head in.
With the weather cooling down, there isn’t much more time to enjoy free outdoors movies in the city! The second last show of Movie Nights at Downsview Park will be taking place on August 30. Grab a blanket, snacks, and friends, and cuddle up to watch Incredibles 2. The showing will take place in the football field and there will be plenty of room and parking, so everyone can join.
For its 12th year, Artfest Toronto will be popping up in the historic Distillery District. From August 30 to September 2, immerse yourself in all things art and craft and celebrate sculpture, painting, photography, live music, and more. If you have any kiddos, make sure to drop them in the Artfest Kids pavilion for free art workshops. Head down any day over the weekend between 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for some good ol’ family fun.
Join Bumble on Woodbine Beach on August 31 for a little morning yoga and kombucha. Start your weekend with a free sweat and stretch — all you have to do is present your Bumble profile and bring a yoga mat or towel to practise on.
Learn a little more about your favourite morning beverage at Boxcar Social Summerhill’s weekly coffee tasting. Every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. you can learn how to properly taste, smell, and evaluate coffee, and everything else you need to know to become a coffee connoisseur. Before you head over, be sure to reserve your spot with free tickets first!
From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on August 31, head over to Nathan Phillips Square for the 13th annual Himalayan Festival. There’ll be Nepalese arts and crafts, as well as live music and performances. The one-day event is completely free to attend, just remember to bring some pocket change so that you can try all of the Nepalese delicacies that will be on hand.
Head over to the Aga Khan Museum for a cultural delight! The museum will be hosting a free festival to celebrate its fifth birthday. There’ll be activities and live music all weekend long, including Persian jazz, Filipino hip-hop, and Bhangra dance classes. Not to mention, an artisan market, food, and free admission to the museum collection. The festival is open 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on August 31 and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on September 1.
The annual air show is back this weekend and celebrating its 70th anniversary. This year, Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, will be joining, and there will be tons of aerial maneuvers showcased throughout the weekend. Instead of splurging on pricey Air Show tickets, we suggest finding a spot along Lakeshore and pulling up a blanket and snacks.
Another free Labour Day Toronto 2019 event to enjoy is live music at the Vista Eatery at Ontario Place. Every Sunday in September, Jazz musicians from across Ontario will perform on Vista’s waterfront patio. Attendance is completely free and the musicians will play three 30-minute sets between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. This Sunday you can catch Stil Trio, a jazz group from University of Toronto.
For one night only, join Hudson’s Bay at Scarborough Town Centre for an evening of food, fashion, music, and fun. There are plenty of free things to take part in, including beauty demonstrations at MAC Cosmetics, Clinique, and Kiehl’s; Levi’s Fit Clinic; Topshop wardrobe consultations; DJ; giveaways; and a mini food hall! Plus the first 200 guests will all receive a free swag bag. And if you do decide to shop, you’ll get 10% off your entire purchase.
