Every now and then, it’s a good idea to reflect on our current routines and habits and implement ways to improve them. It can be things as little as drinking an extra glass of water a day or waking up 20 minutes earlier to allow yourself more “you” time in the morning. If you’ve been feeling a little blah or uninspired lately, try switching up your daily routine a bit with some fresh healthy habits!
Don’t knock it until you try it! Meditation can do wonders for your mental health. Just look up guided meditations on YouTube and follow along. You can even search for videos catering to specific concerns you’d like to work on (anxiety, confidence, etc.).
If you ask us, we think anyone could benefit from drinking an extra glass of water a day. Most of us probably aren’t intaking enough water anyway! Start your day off with a glass of water and take it from there!
It may sound cheesy, but practicing positive affirmations in the morning to start your day off is so underrated. Download ‘I Am’ from the App Store to get an affirmation sent to you every day! Or simply Google or Pinterest some positive affirmations to find some that resonate.
Sleep can be somewhat of a controversial topic, as sometimes it really can’t be controlled all that much. But, if you have the luxury, even just going and laying in bed just 20-30 minutes earlier in order to wake up just a little bit earlier can do wonders! Who couldn’t use an extra half hour to themselves in the morning?
Show yourself a little bit of extra love by perfecting your skincare routine! Performing a skincare routine before bed feels almost ritualistic – so make it something you look forward to ending your day with!
If you eat every meal at the table, hats off to you. Honestly, can’t relate. It can become all too easy to get into a routine of eating infront of the TV and/or on the couch. But eating at the table allows you to be more mindful of what/how much you’re eating, plus it helps practice being present in the moment instead of zoning out to a show.
We refuse to let hot girl walks retire. Even if its just for a few minutes, get outside and go on a walk every day. It not only gets you out and active, but also allows you to get some much-needed fresh air.
Whether it be a chapter in a book or an article or two online (we post almost daily – shameless plug). Reading something gets your eyes off the social apps and hey – you may even learn something new.
It’s so important to make time for the people you love in your life! For both them and yourself. It can be so therapeutic to talk to a friend or family member on the daily.
Using a daily planner allows your days to be more intentional. Write down everything you want to accomplish in a day, no matter how minuscule. You can use a physical planner or we are really loving the GoodNotes app if you have an iPad! You can even find and purchase different templates for the app online.

No matter who you are, if you want to live your best life, there’s just no way around taking proper care of yourself.
If you’re not eating well, sleeping well, and moving regularly, then it’s likely all you can do to make it through your daily task list, let alone achieve the more lofty goals and dreams on the horizon.
Investing in your mental, physical, and emotional well-being is the worthiest investment you can make. Make 2020 the year you do it — for real this time.

If you, like many of us, spend more than a few hours online every day, giving your brain a break is so necessary. Necessary, but not necessarily easy. There’s a reason that new meditation studios have created so much buzz in the city this past year — there really is a need for them. Sitting on a cushion alone in your apartment and trying to keep your mind clear for more than a few minutes is not easy — mindfulness is a skill. It takes time to master, and having a teacher is key. Get you to a mediation and let a pro show you how it’s done. Make frequenting a studio like Hoame one of your self-care essentials this coming year, and take control of your mindset.

Moving regularly is a key part of being able to manage stress, get a proper night’s sleep, and overall, keep your mood up. Working out can be dangerously easy to put off though, especially in the winter, and if you don’t have a gym membership or some kind of plan to move your bod, chances are, getting your heart rate up in a day just won’t happen. Set yourself up for success — get a gym membership, a ClassPass, or a membership to a yoga studio, a proper pair of runners, and a well stocked playlist. Getting your endorphins flowing and making fitness one of your self-care essentials will make you feel ready to take on the world.

Food is an important part of self-care essentials, and if you give your body sub-par fuel, you can’t expect it to run at its optimal level, right? Make proper nutrition a no-brainer by signing up for a food box subscription service like Chef’s Plate or Blue Apron so you can get all the ingredients in and whip up a proper homemade meal quickly and easily. Or, save time walking the aisles of the grocery store by making use of these grocery delivery services. Whether you want local, organic, or straight up mainstream grocery items, there’s a service that’ll let you stock your fridge and cupboard with a couple clicks.

During deep sleep is the chance for our body to restore — this is when blood supply to the muscles increases, tissue growth and repair occurs, and hormones essential for our development are released. Sleep is maybe the most important part of being able to take on the day. What makes for a good night’s sleep is different for everyone, but taking the time to find the key conditions that lull you into that deep sleep is so worth it. Here are nine sleep-supporting products to try if you want to get the best sleep ever in 2020.

The skin is the largest organ in the body and its job is to protect us, but it’s also super absorbent — what we use on our skin ends up inside our bodies. Take care of your body from the outside in and treat it to toxin-free, green, clean skincare products. The ritual of a skincare routine isn’t just necessary but also, calming and grounding. Don’t neglect this integral part of your self-care.

Giving ourselves the gift of repose from our daily routine every once in a while is a need, not a want. If you’re not scheduling time in your calendar to remove yourself from the screen, devoting some time to do whatever you want and reinvigorating your perspective, you’re heading swiftly to rutsville. A retreat doesn’t always have to be a spurge — it can be a day trip or even an afternoon of unplugging. Though, for the times you do want to treat yourself, book some time at one of these sumptuous wellness retreat centres near Toronto. Something luxurious to look forward to can make the process of working toward your goals feel so much more rewarding.
There’s no right or wrong way to care for yourself — there’s only your right way. Try these self-care essentials on for size, make room for experimentation, and get your personal toolkit down pat. You will not regret it.

When fall turns to winter, the snowy season brings with it its own unique set of challenges when it comes to self-care. Although we all like to think we take good care of our mind, body and soul, certain areas can sometimes be left neglected.
With the colder weather comes shorter days, dry skin, seasonal depression, end of semester stress, overwhelm with the holidays and more. It can be a lot, so it’s important to remember to devote extra time and consciousness to self-care in order to combat your winter blues.
By giving your mind and body the attention it needs during the winter season, it will help you adapt and embrace new opportunities. But dedicating entire days to self-care or hopping on a plane to a tropical destination isn’t exactly practical. Taking half an hour per day or even just 10-15 minutes to focus on self-care will work wonders.
Here are a few self-care practices to help you get through the winter weather.
What you put inside your body is perhaps one of the most important forms of self-care. Adding healthy, clean foods to your diet will provide you with much more energy than “comfort” foods. I know it’s tough to do with all the holiday baking going around, but be sure to get your veggies in too. Your body will be left feeling bright and vibrant, making the weather outside seem not so dreary after all.
By now, it’s no secret that our skin takes the bulk of our stress and neglect. Being our largest organ, our skin acts as a visual map of what’s happening inside our bodies. For example, eating poorly or dealing with extra stress at work can lead to more breakouts than normal. That, combined with the colder, dryer weather is a recipe for a skin disaster. Make the time to take care of your skin and don’t forget moisturizer is your best friend during winter.
Yes, organization is a form of self-care. An organized home is a happy home because, for most people, clutter can weigh one down without even realizing it. So get rid of the excess; rid yourself of whatever no longer serves you, grows you or makes you happy. Keeping your space clean will keep you grounded and you won’t feel overwhelmed by unnecessary messes each time you come home.
During the winter months, finding the motivation to work out seems even more difficult. Not only is working out outdoors unavailable because of the cold temperatures, but it’s hard to want to work out when it’s already dark by 5 p.m. But to keep from feeling lethargic, even just a bit of fitness can uplift your entire mood. Try a new fitness class or do yoga with your girlfriends. Even if it’s just a 20-minute at-home workout, you’ll feel better that you did it.
While seasonal affective disorder (SAD) can be a serious issue for some, and professional help might be necessary, it’s not uncommon to feel a little blue when the days are grey. This can impact not only our mood but our energy levels, social lives and nutritional choices as well. But taking a daily multivitamin can help. A multivitamin can do so many things like improving digestion, strengthen teeth and bones, reduce anxiety, support your liver and more – all while addressing your mood too.
Hydration is the key to everything. Tired? Drink some water. Bloated? Drink some water. Dry skin? Drink some water. In the cooler months, it is natural not to feel as thirsty, but it’s still essential to keep hydrated. Staying hydrated can keep you energized and thus boost your mood, so drink up!
It seems silly to say, but make time to sit down and read a really good book. Between work or school, you’re busy and you probably spend most of your time reading stuff that isn’t for leisure. So be sure to find the time – maybe even just 10 minutes before bed – to unplug, destress and dive into a great novel.
