Wellness is one of the top trends of the year and even though #SelfCare is important, it seems that the term wellness, in general, has a weird connotation attached to it. Let’s be clear – wellness, like other trends and fads, can be taken to the extreme but in small doses, wellness practices and/or products can literally turn your whole day around. In a city as big as Toronto, finding wellness spaces and various goodies is easy if you know what to look for and where.
If you’re in search for a few new wellness products that aren’t total BS, then this is the list for you. As an editor, I’ve seen a lot of wellness items that promise a whole world of relaxation but end up being complicated, annoying, and a total waste of money. It’s products like that that ruin wellness’ rep, ya know? One thing I’ve learnt is that it’s important to keep in mind where you’re shopping for these wellness products. Don’t get me wrong — I’m all for a good bargain — but I’d rather pay more for a quality item that actually lasts and works over a cheapie jade roller that breaks after one use.

The fall and winter seasons are notorious for being beautiful, cozy, and dehydrating for our skin. In addition to it being absolutely freakin’ freezing, these icy winds wreak absolute havoc on our skin and hair. It’s not only important to keep ourselves hydrated by obviously drinking water, but slathering on hydrating beauty products has never been so crucial.
Now don’t read this and start slathering on all the moisturizer. Keeping your skin and hair hydrated starts on the inside. Really make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day. Not only that, but make sure you chug a large glass full first thing in the morning. If you think about it, that’s a whole 8 hours that you didn’t drink anything. For my fellow caffeine addicts — don’t worry, you’ll still get your espresso — just after you down that glass of H20.

There’s nothing worse than religiously using a skincare product under the impression that it’s actually doing wonders for your skin, only to find out in the long run that it was either doing nothing to benefit you or, actually, doing you harm. But the truth is, regardless of what your skincare concerns are, the best way to solve them is with a little extra help from Mother Nature, rather than a conventional drugstore brand named product. Regardless if you want to treat acne, uneven pigmentation, or stressed skin, using products made with the right ingredients makes all the difference when combating a skincare problem.

Between the scorching sun and harsh product ingredients, getting flaky, dull, and dehydrated skin is inevitable during the hot summer months. But it’s possible to have the glowing, dewy skin you’ve always dreamed of if you make sure to use products with the right ingredients. Thankfully, Toronto-based Consonant has just released its new Hydrextreme Charcoal Sheet Mask, that will leave your skin looking (and feeling) super hydrated, soft, and smooth well after 24 hours thanks to its advanced botanical ingredients that are aimed at boosting skin health.

It might seem counterintuitive, but oil-based cleansers can actually do wonders for acne. For starters, oil cleansers are so gentle that they typically don’t need to be followed by a moisturizer. Look for cleansing oils with botanical ingredients, rather than anything with detergents, alcohols, and salts which can all dry and irritate your skin over time. This is why we love the brand Ready 24, which is new to the skincare scene, and its Oil-Based Cleanser. It’s made with jojoba oil, rose, and vanilla, which gives your skin a gentle cleanse but also helps clean pores, hydrate skin, and provide an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect.

Whether you’ve had a crazy day at work, a stressful week, or a hectic month, our skin can always use a little extra TLC, which is why we’re obsessed with goop’s The Martini Emotional Detox Bath Soak. Made with Himalayan pink salt and chia seed oil, this bath soak will not only help take the edge off during stressful times but it can also help relax the neck and shoulders, which is where stress most commonly builds up. But the big takeaway is that Himalayan pink sea salt is known for its detoxification and hydration powers. This ionic solution works by helping to draw the toxins out of the skin and adipose tissues, so not only does it detoxify, it hydrates.

When it comes to our skin, it’s in our human nature to naturally shed dead surface cells, however this natural process doesn’t always get rid of every dead patch of skin. This can leave your face feeling dry and looking dull. This means over time, dead cells can start to collect on the surface of your skin, leaving you with clogged pores and a lacklustre complexion. This is why we were blown away when we tried British Columbia-based Bl’eau’s Glacial Oceanic Clay Masks, primarily the Revitalizing Algae Clay Mask, as it instantly helped put our dead skin concerns to rest. Enriched with pure and natural Canadian glacial oceanic clay and algae extract, this face mask helps tighten, renew, and restore skin within minutes. The natural ingredients help maintain the elasticity of the skin, which results in a naturally soft and youthful complexion, which is something we can all appreciate.

Whether you’ve just spent the weekend out drinking with your girlfriends, cramming for an exam, or your lack of sleep is simply catching up to you, we’ve all dealt with tired skin every now and then. This is where a plumping serum with Hyaluronic Acid complex and Vitamin C, such as This Works Morning Expert Hyaluronic Serum will quickly become your skincare BFF. Made with a powerful super blend of wheat-based Hyaluronic Acid to plump and Vitamin C to help firm, tighten smooth, and improve skin appearance, this serum will leave you with glowing skin that’s free from dullness, dehydration, and fatigue after one use.

While we all dream of having perfectly smooth, even skin, many of us are stuck dealing with inconsistent skin pigmentation, which can come in the form of brown spots and uneven skin tone. While uneven pigmentation can develop as a result of excess sun exposure, age, medication, and hormones and while frustrating, it can be treated. This is why Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Serum is a cult favourite — this skin-tone evening serum contains the French brand’s patented Viniferine that is 62 times more effective than Vitamin C at boosting radiance and evening skin complexion. Plus, it’s also vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free, so you can feel good about slathering it on every day.
