You’ll be able to enjoy a nice sauna session as well as a chilly ice bath at a brand new spa retreat set to open in Toronto this year! The spa will be called Othership and will take over a 3,000 square foot spot downtown.
There’s a 45 person sauna that is custom designed as a container for unique guided programming as well as private ice baths so that you can experience the hot and cold cycle properly.
This entire experience is supposed to teach you “how to regulate yourself – and your emotions – in a world that can’t be regulated can and should be a memorable voyage.”
There will also be a handful of classes offered, plus, a breathwork app that you can download so you can get the full experience. If you’re interested, an introductory pass, which is equal to three visits, is $99.

For those who need a spa day (most of us), there’s some good news coming your way! The highly-anticipated Vettä Nordic Spa has announced that it’s on track to open its doors in September 2021. As we dream of post-pandemic life, this luxurious destination will certainly be kept top of mind.
It’s located just an hour north of Toronto, nestled in the highlands of Horseshoe Valley.
Eric Harkonen, the President and founder of Vettä Nordic Spa, spoke about the opening, “Horseshoe Valley is already a vacation destination for many, and the natural beauty found here fits the Finnish-inspired escape so perfectly. Vettä will be the vacation without the travel. An experience that allows guests to sample a taste of Finland for the day and an opportunity to feel relaxed, recharged, and reconnected.”
Now, here’s the best part. Guests will immerse themselves in a hydrotherapy experience that offers professional massages by RMT’s, steam rooms, saunas, warm pools, cold plunge pools, salt rubs, a hot stone room, multiple relaxation areas, and outdoor wood-burning fire pits.
Not only is it about relaxation, but you can also enjoy exquisite food and treats as well! Be sure to grab a tasty meal at the Savu Bistro, or enjoy a delicious coffee at the Grab-n-Go Coffee Bar.
Vettä’s primary attraction is its emphasis on spending quality time with others and having meaningful conversations during their spa escape. While there is a designated zone for those who wish to relax quietly on their own, the majority of Vettä functions in accordance with the Finnish tradition of chatting and engaging with others. So invite your family and friends and head over to the spa this fall.

Brands That Have Expanded In Canada During The Pandemic
With December and the bustling holiday season upon us, you might be looking for ways to unwind and relax. If so, then you need to have Canada’s first Guerlain Spa at Hotel X Toronto on your radar. Located on the fourth floor of Hotel X Toronto, the Guerlain Spa offers prime views of the Toronto skyline and Lake Ontario, but also an assortment of luxury spa treatments. The Toronto location joins the family of 40 Guerlain spas worldwide in cities like New York City, Paris, Dubai, Shanghai, Doha, and more.
The Guerlain Spa at Hotel X Toronto features 10 treatment rooms where clients can receive an array of relaxing treatments ranging from massages and facials, to nail services and make up applications. There are also two rooms for couples services where you can have your massage next to your SO, or of course, a pal. Even better, the spa has the complete Guerlain skincare and makeup line available to purchase, too.
The Lakeside Stone Massage features hot stones for improved circulation, the TO Sports Massage which works on muscle tension, and the Glamour In Toronto which combines a facial treatment with a hand massage.
What’s fabulous about getting a treatment here is that every one begins with the awakening of all the senses. What does that mean exactly? Well, before your massage (for example), your Beauty Expert will have you lay back, close your eyes, and smell four different elixirs that will guide you on your journey to feeling the ultimate in relaxation.
On top of experiencing pure luxury relaxation, during your stay at the spa, clients can also enjoy the spa’s lounge which also features views of the lake, and the steam room that’s located in the change rooms.
My experience began with a chic glass of complimentary bubbly in the lounge while relaxing on a day bed that even functions as a massage chair. Talk about a great start!
I was quickly shown into my private room that started with me choosing an elixir for my massage. To be honest, they all smelled fabulous and relaxing — it was so hard to choose! After discussing areas of my back that needed a little extra love, my masseuse got started and I quickly felt the hour we had together fly by.
After a good steam, I felt ready to face the outside world, but not before I took in the gorgeous view one last time. Of course every spa you might visit promises relaxation, and it’s no doubt that you’ll experience it, but at the this spa, relaxation is coupled with luxury and that’s a combination that truly go hand-in-hand.
Regardless of if you’re in need of some TLC this holiday season, or looking to give the gift of it, Guerlain’s Spa at Hotel X Toronto is just the ticket. In addition to feeling relaxed, I felt rejuvenated and ready to face the rest of my week.

The Largest Spa In North America Is Just 4.5 Hours Away From Toronto
As summer begins to transition to fall, temperatures shift from warm and humid, to crisp and cool sometimes as quickly as in a day. Don’t get us wrong, we’re looking forward to the change of season but the sudden switch in weather can leave you with itchy and irritated skin, or even worse, a very unpleasant breakout. But often enough, all you need is a quick trip to the spa to give your skin the TLC that it deserves. Here in Toronto, we’re spoiled when it comes to luxe spas that deliver an impressive lineup of treatments that are not only complexion saviours, but are also incredibly relaxing. Read on to see where we’re heading to for our all-time-favourite exfoliating, massaging, extracting, hydrating, smoothing, technologically advanced, glow-ifying facials in Toronto.
Nowadays, it’s not just our lives that are technology-driven, our skincare is too, and it just so happens this Queen Street natural-beauty haven is home to a technology forward facial, that targets common skin concerns like dehydration, elasticity, and evening out complexion. But don’t let the premise of being technology-focused scare you. This facial uses an incredibly relaxing, nine-step process that includes a cold laser, microdermabrasion, oxygen, and LED light therapy, which works together to increases cell turnover and stimulates collagen and elastin production. Not to mention, all products used during the treatment are from Consonant, so they’re 100% natural.
If you feel like your complexion is looking dull and tired, a micro facial from Blitz is just what the doctor ordered. During this 30-minute procedure, the esthetician will start by cleansing your skin, followed by a microdermabrasion procedure that uses a diamond tip paired with gentle suction to remove the outermost layer of dead skin. This is followed by a lymphatic massage, hydration, and SPF, leaving you with healthy, bright, and glowing skin.
For the gals and guys who want a treatment that’s more catered to their personal skincare needs, Province Apothecary’s custom organic facial is definitely a must-have. You’ll start your procedure with a fully holistic consultation with a skin therapist to determine your skin concerns and how they can be treated. Based on this analysis, your skin therapist will begin your customized treatment with in-house made all organic products through a series of lymphatic stimulation, cleansing, a honey mask, massage, and extraction (if necessary). You’ll also get to go home with samples and a custom-blended facial serum to build a complete home-care regime included in this treatment.
If you’re a fan of treatments that deliver instant results, you’ll want to give the hydrafacial at Spa My Blend by Clarins at the Ritz Carlton a try. This non-invasive and non-surgical procedure helps to resurface your skin through a series of cleansing, exfoliating, extractions, and hydration. Your skin will be treated to a cocktail of antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid, giving you optimal results without any downtime. Plus, you can choose from a 30, 60, or 90-minute treatment, depending on your schedule.
If you feel like you’re going through a period of particularly dull skin, the Skinceuticals Treatment Facial at the Hammam Spa on King Street West not only brightens skin, we assure you that it works wonders on your overall skin tone to boost overall radiance. Here’s how it works: the treatment is rich in antioxidants and exfoliators, that work together to leave skin looking brighter and more radiant and refreshed.
The next time you have a special occasion to prepare for, we recommend treating yourself to Ritual’s ‘red carpet facial.’ This relaxing and luxe facial combines all of the salon’s best techniques, leaving you with flawless looking skin. Treatments include a deep cleansing, customized masque, advanced exfoliation, micro-current lift, and an oxygen infusion leaving skin looking plumped, glowing, and red carpet ready.

In addition to the space, the spa menu has also been updated, with popular new treatments including things like the Rose Gold Facial, a 75-minute oxygen-boosting treatment that uses rose quartz crystals to tone and tighten skin. North Medical Spa strives to remove the stigma surrounding enhancements and embrace the community where women have the confidence to brag about their preferred treatments and share their beauty secrets openly.
Owner Amanda Mizen, dreamed up a location that feels as comfortable and cool as your best friends living room and, where staff listen more than they speak. “We’re not here to tell you what you need or what’s hot…we’re here to deliver what you want.” Whether that’s a tiny touch-up or total transformation, North Medical’s services are fully customized to your desired outcome.

For a fresh start for the warmer season, reverse the toll the brutal winter had on your skin (i.e. roughness and dryness) with the Divine Body Treatment from Miraj Caudalie Spa in the Shangri-La Hotel, as you’re scrubbed down with a luxurious body treatment based with sugar, Hibiscus, sesame seed, and grape seed oil to seriously exfoliate and nourish the skin. The refreshing treatment (you’ll literally feel like they’ve scrubbed off a whole other person) is complete with a 30-minute relaxation massage.

Hit one of Toronto’s oldest spas, Elmwood Spa, for a soothing massage with a side of water therapies and a quality meal in your robe. Elmwood Spa’s Deep Siam Massage targets muscle pain, stress-induced muscle tension, fatigue, and even recovery from that lingering spring cold. You can expect a heated Thai herbal compress (that you never knew was missing in your life) to restore and redirect energy, with herbs like lemongrass plai, turmeric, and Kaffir lime and essential oils to repair the body by balancing the senses, calming the nerves, and revitalizing the skin and tissues. If you’d rather share the experience, the massage is also available for two.

While a manicure and pedicure at Hammam Spa definitely don’t come cheap, if there was ever a time to splurge on all of the frills in the nails department, it’s when those toes finally emerge from hibernation for the season. A mani/pedi at Hammam nail services includes a polish application, cuticle care, nail shaping, and a hydrating massage to complete the experience. As (a very well-received) added bonus, because the service will set you back over $100, you can also detoxify in the spot’s 500-square-foot Hammam Steam Room before and after your treatment.

Hit Sweetgrass Spa and emerge fresh-faced for spring after their signature Rosewater Ice Facial. Rosewater works to eliminate excess oil from the skin, while tightening pores and diminishing wrinkles and fine lines. It also helps treat and repair skin concerns like acne, clogged pores, rosacea, and ageing skin. Once you’re settled in the spa’s pristine walls, the treatment will include a double cleanse, exfoliation, extractions, Rosewater mist, a scalp massage followed by a customized facial mask, and massage using smooth round ice globes and finishing creams.

10 Perfect Places To Relax With a Spa-Cation in Toronto
5 Surprising Reasons Why Cannabis Is Great for Moms
5 Affordable Sheet Masks to Keep Your Skin Glowing This Summer
Toronto is not lacking in spas, but more often than not, treating ourselves to a facial sets costs an arm and a leg. Luckily, I was able to experience an affordable yet effective Detox Facial at the Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa at Don Mills.
To start, my experience was met with a warm smile and an offering of delicious cucumber-infused water. The ambience was relaxed, the music was soothing and the team of welcoming staff members were nothing short of fantastic, including owner Walter Cheung and esthetician Christina Anderson. Once I filled out my form detailing my complexion concerns, I was ushered down a hallway that smelled like a bouquet of relaxing essential oils.
Once I was in the assigned spa room, Christina went over the docket and my described skin concerns. I slipped into my lush robe and waited for my skin analysis. Under a lens, she was able to determine the good, the bad and the downright ugly. I was clearly very guilty of neglecting my daily SPF routine. Once the treatment started, my skin was buffed and slathered with a slew of clearing and cleansing products. This particular detox facial encourages the skin to purge all the while purifying and rebuilding the texture. It’s recommended to have a facial once a month – if your budget allows for it – as our skin naturally turns over every 28 days.
Immediately after my treatment, I noticed that my skin was glowing and the texture looked and felt soft and smooth. 24-hours after my treatment I noticed a difference in my complexion, and I’ve personally vowed to stay committed not only to the facial but Christina’s SPF advice.
The Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa experience has a variety of treatments to choose from, and not just for the problematic skin. From their Rejuvenating Facial which diminishes the appearance of fine lines to their Sensitive Skin Facial, which helps to restore the skin’s pH balance, there’s something for everyone. The centre also offers microdermabrasion, a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure to remove dull and lifeless skin, as well as active peels and an LED Skin Phototherapy treatment.

Beyond the amazing treatments, the spa is also committed to carrying luxurious products that are backed by science and deliver on their promises. Included is Dermalogica and Diego Dalla Palma. So if you’re looking to treat your glow to a truly fantastic and affordable facial that’s uncompromising in its pursuit of perfection, the Hand & Stone Spa will be all that and then some.
The Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa is located at 895 Lawrence Avenue East, Unit 4 North York, Ontario.
