Whether you prefer to lay out under the sun or take a dip in the water, there’s something here in Ontario for everybody. While we have a few beaches here in Toronto, if you’re looking to get out of the city, lucky for you, there are plenty of waterside escapes only a few hours from TO! Note: Always do a quick search of the beach you’re planning to visit before you go to ensure it’s open at the time of your trip!
Here are the best beaches to visit this summer in & near Toronto.
Kew-Balmy Beach
Just a stone’s throw away from Woodbine Beach is Kew-Balmy Beach and it’s much more secluded and private than it’s more famous neighbour. In addition to being quiet, it’s also closer to the water with areas that are perfect for lounging.
Darlington Provincial Park
This Bowmanville beach is just under an hour away from Toronto, but it’s quiet and secluded enough to make you feel like you’re in a whole new world. Bonus: the beach has an abundance of flat, black stones that are perfect for skipping.
Marie Curtis Park Beach
Known as being one of Toronto’s most underrated gems is Marie Curtis Beach Park. Though this beach doesn’t have a long stretch of sand, it’s definitely a change of pace from the busier beaches in the city.
Christie Lake
Enjoy hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, biking, or even stop to have a picnic. With gorgeous greenery all around, the view is breathtaking. Christie Lake is full of fun options for outdoor activities, now all you have to do is choose what you want to do.
Bluffer’s Park And Beach
Welcome to Bluffer’s Park And Beach where you can hang out at the base of the beautiful Scarborough Bluffs. Take your boat out for a ride or relax by the shore in the water. Trust us, you don’t want to miss out on this view.
Rock Point
This beach on the north shore of Lake Erie is made for picnics, with plenty of tables for a shoreside feast. The water is also quite warm, so once you’ve waited the appropriate amount of time, we highly suggest a swim.
Wasaga Beach
It’s practically a rite of passage for every Torontonian to visit Wasaga Beach at least once in their lives. While it can be a pretty popular destination in the summer months, it is also the longest freshwater beach in the world, meaning you’ll be sure to find a spot on the sand.
Crystal Beach
Get a little taste of the Caribbean in Canada at Crystal Beach! It has a vast sandy area with beautiful clear water where locals and visitors can enjoy a relaxing day at the beach.
Port Burwell Provincial Park
If you’re more of a nature buff, this beach is the place for you. Complete with wild grass and driftwood, this place might be a little rougher around the edges but trust us, it’s worth the trek.
Sandbanks Provincial Park
Named for the spectacular sandbanks that are quite rare for our part of the world, Sandbanks Provincial Park is perfect for that Instagram-obsessed friend in your group. But don’t worry, this beach isn’t just pretty to look at – hiking over to the dunes will add a touch of adventure to your day trip.
Lion’s Head Beach
This small sandy beach has gorgeous views of the Niagara Escarpment and even has a farmer’s market on Saturday mornings. If you can, we’d suggest checking out the nearby Tobermory Grotto as well – its turquoise waters are mind-blowingly gorgeous.
Port Stanley
Located on Lake Erie, this is one of the beaches near Toronto that you must check out. A beautiful village with small shops, yummy restaurants, and of course a gorgeous beach.
Rondeau Park
This beach may be narrow, but it’s also quite long, with around 11 kilometres of sandy beaches to explore. In short, you’ll be sure to find a nice, quiet spot away from other tourists.
Canatara Park
While a near three-hour drive is certainly not for the faint of heart, it’s certainly worth it to see one of the best beaches Ontario has to offer. Plus, if you stay for the night, you’ll have time to see the beautiful sunset over the lake.
Sauble Beach
Located northwest of Toronto near Owen Sound is where you’ll find Sauble Beach and while it’s about a 3-hour drive, you’ll see it’s worth it. Relax on the white sandy beach and take in the breathtaking views. There’s even a waterfall locals love to jump in and swim at, down the river.
Kelso Conservation Area
Enjoy a summer fun day at Kelso Lake. It’s part of a 35-hectare lake that has a great beach area to set up lounge chairs or even play some volleyball. You can also stroll along the boardwalk, rent a boat, or even go fishing.
Ipperwash Beach
Located on Lambton Shores, Ipperwash Beach is one of the longest freshwater beaches in Ontario. It’s also close to the Grand Bend beach, so you can make a day trip and check out two areas!
Grand Bend Beach
Grand Bend Beach consists of about 20 acres of a stunning sandy beach. It has dozens of restaurants and shops around the area, to which you can grab a yummy meal for lunch. It’s also a Blue Flag beach, which means it meets strict water quality and safety criteria, which is always great to know if you’re exploring new spots!
Port Burwell Beach
Situated at Wilson Lane in Port Burwell, this beach is an amazing space on the northern shore of Lake Erie. It also consists of an awesome family friendly campground with large level sites and a play area for kids.
Singing Sands Beach
This beautiful beach has a ton of fun things to explore! You’ll find sand dunes, wetlands, dolostone barrens, and a cedar swamp. There’s even a handful of hiking trails and prime bird-watching spots to check out.
Turkey Point
Whether you’re looking to have a lazy beach day or fun cottage weekend, Turkey Point has you covered. Just under 3 hours from Toronto you can find this beach that’s great for swimming in. It also has some shopping, food, and entertainment to enjoy while you’re there.

Creating an itinerary will help you plan out what exactly you are going to spend. And sticking to a plan will help avoid overspending in the moment (we’ve all been there).
Meal Plan
One of the most costly parts of a vacation is eating out. However, if you plan out your meals and how often you are willing to eat out, you can save quite a bit! Depending on your individual vacation plans, it will vary how much you can meal plan. If the location you’re staying in is equipped for cooking, making some of your own meals will save you a ton. If you’re travelling somewhere like a resort, check out the packages and try and book something all-inclusive so you don’t have to give your meals a second thought!
Research The Cheapest Times To Fly/Travel
Prices tend to vary on flights depending on what time you’re flying. From the day of the week to the time of the day all the way to the month you’re travelling. (August, for example, is a great time to travel to save costs).
Split The Costs
If you’re going on vacation with a group, always have the budget discussion in advance! You don’t want to get stuck spending more than everyone else. Things like food, transportation, hotels, Airbnbs, etc. can all be split up to ensure no one is spending more than their share.
Pack Efficiently
Make a list of everything you’ll need over your trip and check it over a few times to ensure you didn’t miss anything! This will save you from having to buy any supplies on the go (where it may be more expensive). Although you want to pack everything you need, you also don’t want to over-pack. Especially if you’re flying, if you want to save from having to check a bag.
Take Public Transportation
While you’re commuting to different locations throughout your travels, the cheapest way to get from point A to point B is either walking or public transportation. Rental cars, Ubers, and cabs can really add up!
Get Travel Insurance

CF Toronto Eaton Centre Pedestrian Bridge
CF Toronto Eaton Centre’s Pedestrian Bridge twists and beautifully transitions into a historic Victorian facade. “This is Paradise” Wall
Tom Dean’s mural on the side of the Cameron House was created after the artist was evicted from his home and moved into the Cameron House. Now, the baby blue and yellow mural takes up half a city block on a side street of Queen West.

Built in the mid-90s, the Humber Bay Arch Bridge is located just south of Lake Shore Boulevard West. As part of the Martin Goodman Trail, you’ll find lots of pedestrians and cyclists here, but if you’re lucky, you’ll get the bridge (mostly) all to yourself for the perfect picture.
Evergreen Brick Works
Just a short bus ride away from Broadview station, Evergreen Brickworks is a restored brickwork factory that has the same aesthetic appeal as a Brooklyn loft. Bonus: head down on a weekend morning and grab a snack at the farmer’s market to fuel your ‘gramming.

There are so many great places to snap a picture in Kensington Market. Whether it be in front of a graffiti plant-filled car, a colourful house, or even the Kensington sign – you’re sure to get a good ‘gram.
Graffiti Alley
The alleyway between Portland and Spadina is home to some of the largest and most colourful graffiti in the city. There’s always new graffiti being displayed, so check it out for some great Insta-pic backgrounds.
Village of Yorkville Park
In the heart of Yorkville is where you’ll find this urban park, which transforms depending on the time of the year. While the scenery will change slightly throughout the seasons, what you can always count on is a good snap in the award-winning area.
Toronto Reference Library
Located on the corner of Yonge Street and Asquith Avenue is the Toronto Reference Library. The library features a modern and classical aesthetic with a large glass façade, geometric details, and orangey-red floors. The swirling staircases throughout make for the perfect Instagram picture spot.
Edwards Gardens
Just West of the historical Bridle Path lies Edwards gardens, a floral oasis right in the North of the city. Swing by in spring to see the cherry blossoms bloom.

Sanko Trading Co.
This Japanese grocery store is a favourite in the ‘hood, and while the inside is full of delicious treasures and pretty knick knacks, the outside is pretty special, too. Along the west side of the building on Claremont, you’ll find a brilliant graffitied wall, perfect for your next backdrop.
Allan Gardens
Closer to downtown, the Allan Gardens greenhouse is open to the public and is home to tropical flora and fauna (they even have a cacti garden).
The Art Gallery of Ontario
Thanks to Frank Gehry’s stunning architecture and ever-rotating exhibits or contemporary art, the Art Gallery of Ontario is always a safe bet for a solid snap.
COPS Doughnuts
Not only does COPS have Instagram-worthy (and super yummy) doughnuts, but the location itself is super cute and picture-esque.
The Aga Khan Museum
The Aga Khan is one of the newer additions to Toronto’s museum rotation. The museum is home to an astounding collection of Islamic art, all housed in a dramatic building by Moriyama and Teshima. The outside of the building is often used for the backdrop of wedding and engagement photos and once you check it out, you’ll see why we chose it as one of the most Instagrammable places in Toronto.
Ripley’s Aquarium
Alright, everyone and their mom have posted a photo of Ripley’s jellyfish, but the eerie blue and purple hues of the aquarium make for so many aesthetic options.

Things are no longer beachy-keen for Canadian bathing suit retailer, Swimco. The former shopping mall staple just announced that it’s closing after 45 years in business.
The company posted a notice on its website saying it “was unable to make a viable proposal…and is thereupon deemed to have made an assignment into bankruptcy effective October 10, 2020.”
The company’s history
Swimco started as a home-based, mail-in order business out of founder Corinne Forseth’s basement. The first store opened in Calgary in 1983. The chain was later passed on to Forseth’s daughter, Lori Bacon.
“[They] mastered the art of personal service catering to women,” said retail real estate specialist Michael Kehoe. (They also sell men’s swimwear, FYI.)
All about body positivity
Another reason to love the brand: Swimco was all about feeling beautiful in your body the way it is.
“When you walk into a Swimco store, you see REAL models that look like the people around you — because being aspirational isn’t just about what happens on the surface, it’s also about what happens beneath it,” its website says.
But COVID hit North America at the worst time (Spring Break — RIP beach vacay) for Swimco.
“Swimco was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic that shut down the cruise ship industry and international vacation travel. The loss of the local iconic Swimco brand, a family owned and operated legacy fashion retailer, will be mourned.”
The beginning of the end
All 20 of Swimco’s brick-and-mortar locations across Canada have closed, but you can still shop its online store. All sales are final and you won’t be able to use your gift cards (*sad face*), but you can take advantage of the 45% off sale. You know, in case you want to lounge around your house in a bikini. It sells bathing suits from a ton of different brands, like Adidas, Roxy, and Polo Ralph Lauren, in addition to its own Swimco line, so there’s plenty to choose from.
You can also enjoy free shipping on orders over $150, so you should definitely stock up for your post-lockdown, pandemic-free tropical getaway. Make sure you get your order in fast so you don’t miss out.

Bernina Railway is a single-track railway that starts in the spa resort of St. Moritz, Switzerland and ends in Tirano, Italy.
