When it comes to dressing for special occasions, it’s all about looking and feeling your absolute best.

The Harry Rosen Outlet’s expert team has shared some valuable tips to ensure you’re looking extra sharp on your next special occasion:

Choose A Classic Colour

Choosing a classic colour such as navy blue, charcoal grey, or black is a safe option for most occasions. They’re versatile and classic, and you can wear them to anything from weddings to job interviews.

Get the Right Fit

A suit tailored to your personal body type is how you achieve the right fit. Finding a sweet spot that isn’t too loose or too tight. Harry Rosen’s tailors can help you with this, assuring you find your perfect fit.

Look for High-Quality Fabrics

You want your suit to last a long time. The best way of ensuring that is by choosing one with a high-quality composition. Wool and wool blends are a great option, being durable as well as breathable – so it can be worn across all seasons.

Keep It Classic

Opt for a classic style that transcends all trends. A two-button, single-breasted jacket with notch lapels is a simple and timeless look that you can wear for years to come. It’s that simple. It’s a timeless look that you can depend on for years to come.

In terms of tuxedos, there’s quite a contrast to the traditional suit, but the main differences lie in a single-button jacket with peak lapels and satin trim. You’ll likely only ever need one tuxedo in your wardrobe, as opposed to suits.

It’s All in the Details

Last but not least – the finishing touches. Pay attention to all the details, because they will make or break the perfect suit. Ensure pockets are placed and sized proportionately, pay attention to the quality of the buttons, etc. If you don’t know exactly what to look out for, don’t fret. The Harry Rosen Outlet’s style advisors are always there to help.

As exciting as weddings are, it can be stressful trying to decide what to wear, especially when you’re a guest at multiple weddings in one season. Not only do you have to find something that adheres to the dress code, but you also don’t want to break the bank by shelling out hundreds of dollars on a dress you won’t be able to (or want to) wear again. Luckily there are a few stores in Toronto that always come through when it comes to both chic styles and more formal options, so whether you’re going black tie or for more of a bohemian vibe, you’ll be able to find exactly what you need right here in the city.

Celebrating the love of two people is cause for celebration, but after everything is said and done, weddings are hella expensive!

Sure, you’re happy for your friends’ eternal flame, but you can’t say the same for your wallet. Wedding season (aka broke AF season) ultimately leaves you stuck with an expensive dress you’ll likely never wear again. While you can’t put a price on love, you can definitely put a price on a dress, and by price, I mean under $150.

Take a look at the best stores to find affordable dresses for weddings below, and save that cash money!

Fitzroy Boutique

https://www.instagram.com/p/BkSSkzfg-K6/?taken-by=fitzroyrentals

If your bougie taste in dresses doesn’t match your budget, Fitzroy Boutique is the perfect place for you. Rather than buying a dress, the studio allows you to rent designer frocks at much cheaper prices ($80 – $110). Think covetable labels like For Love and Lemons, Narces, Elle Zeitoune and more.

M Boutique

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bki-8ohA5pn/?taken-by=shop_mboutique

M Boutique isn’t only a good destination for trendy summer outfits, it’s also filled to the brim with a number of party dresses and jumpsuits, perfect for weddings. Right now select styles are starting at $59 which is tres affordable if you ask me. They also usually have adorbs two-piece top and bottom sets, if you’re feeling a little more scandalous.

Fashion Nova

https://www.instagram.com/p/BkyqkMNBOVq/?taken-by=fashionnova

Let’s not forget about online stores too! Wedding invitations usually give you loads of time to get your affairs in order, so get on ordering a dress stat from Fashion Nova. The online retailer who is known for their ridiculous prices (starting at around $35) has an entire section for special occasion dresses. You’re going to sizzle in these styles – they’re famous for hugging curves.

Nordstrom Rack

https://www.instagram.com/p/BixHDoBg6Mt/?hl=en&taken-by=nordstromrack

ICYMI: Nordstrom Rack is now open in Toronto with their flagship in Bloor-Yorkville village. Who else is literally freaking out?! The off-price division of the department store will give label lovers an insane rush with unbelievable markdowns on designer clothing. While I can’t guarantee all prices will be under $150, the value you’ll be getting is insane.

Dynamite

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bj3Twnfh_p4/?taken-by=dynamiteclothing

You might not have been paying attention, but over the past several years, Dynamite has done a total rebranding. They used to remind me of Suzy Shier, but have since gotten into much more stylish things. There are actually so many cute AF dresses to choose from with prices starting at $39.95.

Winners/Marshalls

https://www.instagram.com/p/BjAIMMBHU7D/?taken-by=winners

A list for affordable dresses for weddings wouldn’t be complete without Winners and Marshalls. I LOVE these stores and can almost never go inside without buying something. Check out our lists for the best Winners and Marshalls in Toronto and head straight for the “Off the Runway Racks.” Start there, and then branch out to the other dresses; you’ll likely end up buying more than one! LOL

Lulus

https://www.instagram.com/p/BkEBxGvFRMJ/?taken-by=lulus

If you haven’t shopped at Lulus yet, you’re in for a lovely surprise. The online retailer is like a more upscale and trendy Forever 21 or H&M, while still remaining hella affordable. Sale dresses are as cheap as $15, while in season dresses start around $50. They have a great mix of different styles, from simple to more extravagant and regularly have sale promotions going on as well as periods of free shipping.

It’s that time of year again: wedding season! If you’re like me, every other weekend in your calendar is booked with an engagement party, bridal shower or wedding. While I couldn’t be happier to celebrate the nuptials of my nearest and dearest, wedding season sure can get expensive for a guest (not to mention the happy couple).

Follow these simple steps for how to tackle wedding season on a budget:

Outfits

There’s no need to splurge on a new outfit for every occasion. Take one quality basic from your wardrobe and dress it up differently for multiple occasions (this is where a LBD comes in handy!). Play around with different jackets, shoes and accessories to change up your outfit for each event. When in doubt, go with black – it’s classic, flattering and doesn’t stand out in photos as looking like the same outfit twice. If you insist on a new outfit, try renting a dress from companies like Fitzroy Boutique or Rent, Frock, Repeat instead.

Tip: Skip the expensive salon bill by asking a friend to do your hair and make-up. Tag them in a photo of your look on social media to give them a shout-out for a job well done!

Transportation

When attending a wedding out of town, there’s always travel and accommodations to coordinate in advance. Whenever possible, plan as a group; the more people you can travel with, the more wiggle room you’ll have for splitting larger expenses (like a car service or Airbnb booking).

Tip: Traveling by plane? When booking your flight online, clear your computer’s cache before searching. If a website detects that you’ve been searching for a specific flight frequently, they may raise the prices on your search.

Gifting

Whenever possible, I always recommend purchasing a gift off of the couple’s registry. Always buy the item online when the retailer is having a sale. You can often double your discount by signing up for the retailer’s e-newsletter (this will typically get you an instant 10-15% off coupon code towards your first online order). Many online retailers like Hudson’s Bay will ease the gift giving process even further by gift wrapping the item, adding a greeting card and shipping it directly to the couple’s home. Talk about efficient.

Tip: Redeem your credit card points or AIR MILES rewards for kitchen appliances, electronics, gift cards or travel vouchers to give as gifts.

As a guest, I like to approach wedding season worry-free and ready to party. This means not stressing over the expenses that can pile up from fussing over new outfits, accommodations, and gifts. I recommend setting a budget at the start of wedding season to support all of the events you plan to attend. Remember: It’s perfectly acceptable to decline an invite, especially if you can’t afford it.

How do you tackle wedding season on a budget?

Although you may not be able to get married at Windsor Castle like Harry and Meghan are this Spring, having your own fairy tale wedding is still a possibility. Believe it or not, Canada has its own selection of beautiful castles throughout the country where you can tie the knot in a royal fashion. To assist in your planning (or dreaming), we’ve put together a list of beautiful Canadian castles that double as wedding venues.

Craigdarroch Castle (Victoria, BC)

Image: facebook.com/craigdarrochcastle/

Craigdarroch Castle was originally built in the late 1800s as a family home for the wealthy coal baron Robert Dunsmuir. The grand fortune of the Dunsmuir family is reflected in the estate’s regal Victorian furnishings, beautiful stained glass windows, and detailed woodwork throughout. If you want to get married inside the castle, there is allowance for only 8 guests, so you’re going to have to keep the list pretty small. For a larger ceremony, the beautiful garden can accommodate up to 300 guests.

Dundurn Castle (Hamilton, ON)

Image: attractionsontario.ca

What better way to impress your friends and family than with a wedding location rich in culture and history? A National Historic site in the city of Hamilton, Dundurn Castle was built in 1835 and features a large neoclassical mansion, beautiful gardens and a breathtaking view of Lake Ontario. Fun fact: the estate was once home to railway magnate Sir Allan Napier MacNab, who is the great, great, great grandfather of The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles. You can make use of The Dundurn Coach House, Cockpit Theatre or outdoor Maple Walk for your wedding day.

CASA LOMA (TORONTO, ON)

Image: facebook.com/casalomacastle/

Located in the heart of the six, Casa Loma is a Toronto landmark and the perfect locale for a storybook wedding. The Gothic Revival style castle was built in 1914, and was originally constructed as a residence for leading Canadian financier, Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. The extravagant estate features beautiful gardens, a spectacular view of the city skyline and plenty of rooms that can be rented out for your big day.

Hatley Castle (Victoria, BC)

Image: http://hatleypark.ca/

Just a 20 minute drive from Victoria is Hatley Castle, an Edwardian style castle and National Historic Site built in 1908. The magnificent estate was originally owned by the son of Craigdarroch Castle’s owner, James Dunsmuir, who resided there with his family. The property has an amazing view of Washington State’s majestic Olympic Mountains, and you can get married in the estate or garden.

Delta Bessborough (Saskatoon, SK)

Image: marriott.com

Built between 1928 and 1932, the Delta Bessborough resembles that of a Bavarian Castle and is the perfect destination for your fairytale wedding. The hotel has amazing views of the nearby river and is surrounded by five acres of beautiful Elizabethan gardens. You can get married in any of their 14 event rooms, with the largest having a capacity of 500 guests.

Fairmont Banff Springs (Banff, AB)

Image: booking.com

Often referred to as “Canada’s Castle in the Rockies,” the Fairmont Banff Springs is located in the heart of Alberta’s Banff National Park. The property was commissioned in 1887 by the Canadian Pacific Railway’s president, Cornelius Van Horne, who wanted to create a succession of lavish resorts along the railway line. Modelled after a Scottish Baronial style castle, the Fairmont Banff Springs has hosted many notable guests over the years including King George VI, Marilyn Monroe and Fred Astaire. From the glamorous ballroom to the outdoor terrace, the property includes several luxurious wedding venues you can choose from.

Fairmont Chateau Laurier (Ottawa, ON)

Image: facebook.com/FairmontChateauLaurier/

Known as “Ottawa’s Castle,” the Fairmont Chateau Laurier is located in our nation’s capital right near Parliament Hill. Like the Fairmont Banff Springs, the Chateau Laurier was also built by a railway executive; Charles Melville Hays, then-president of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, commissioned the construction of the building in 1907. Unfortunately, Hays never had the chance to see his work completed, as he died on the Titanic days before the hotel’s opening in 1912. The French-style chateau has hosted several members of the royal family over the years including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and it’ll be sure to make you feel like a princess on your wedding day.

If you could get married at any of the castles listed above, which one would you choose? Let us know in the comments!
