Here in the city, moments of stillness are few and far between. Hence, our spas and wellness spaces tend to be in-demand, very necessary hot spots. Some sumptuous new spots to treat yourself opened up this past year, and with them, some innovative new services. Keep these on your radar as some holiday stress and winter blues might start to set in!
Here are 5 new spas that opened in Toronto this year!
This new boutique fitness club on Yonge Street really does have it all from hot yoga and HIIT workouts, to spinning, as well as a super-food café and bar, co-working spaces, and even a spa. Members can make use of RMT services, express facials by Consonant Skincare, an infrared sauna, and a Somadome, which is a high-tech meditation pod where you can zone out and get the benefits of built-in light therapy. You basically never have to leave – and why would you want to?
Earlier this year, Chanel opened its first-ever standalone beauty and fragrance boutique in Holt Renfrew at 50 Bloor Street that offers exclusive products that are unavailable anywhere else (think: a nail polish bar, a fragrance library, and an eyewear selection). One of the exclusive offerings in the 1,280-square foot boutique is a private treatment space that’s inspired by the ultra-luxe Chanel au Ritz Spa in Paris. So, after you try on samples virtually using the boutique’s iPads, you can indulge in a 75-90 minute facial in what might be the most exclusive spa suite in the country. Maybe not the all-encompassing relaxation experience you need to unwind from a tough week, but note-worthy no less.
Toronto’s award-winning Hammam spa just opened a location at Bayview Village, where folks can benefit from the magic of ancient tradition of the Turkish hammam, or Turkish baths. With a 765 square foot mosaic steam room and 16 private treatment rooms, this urban oasis is just what the doctor ordered for the shopper whos been on their feet all day. This location also offers an advanced clinical spa with innovative injectable, laser and skincare treatments, so you’re well taken care of.
Nestled up on the fourth floor of Hotel X Toronto overlooking the lake is the Guerlain Spa, which has been generating buzz since it opened in November earlier this year. Guerlain is a high-end French beauty brand which has 43 spas around the world, and Toronto’s outpost, the first in Canada, cuts no corners – the space has 10 treatment rooms (many with lake views) with two reserved for couples experiences where each guest choose their own scents, music, tea, and snacks to tailor their treatment experience. Only Guerlain products are used here, so you can be sure your skin will be treated with the utmost care.
Branded as a ‘unique self-care experience,’ the city’s first sweat spa revolves around 55 minute treatment sessions that involve wrapping spa goers up in an infrared blanket with the option to settle in with tea, and either noise cancelling headphones or Netflix. You can expect to sweat two to three times more than you would in a regular sauna. So, you can get the benefits of improved circulation, skin detoxification, and increased metabolism as you Netflix and chill.
