The North American fashion world awoke with a bang this morning as the news of Karl Lagerfeld‘s sudden death broke.
The famed Creative Director at the House of Chanel passed away in Paris after a short illness with pancreatic cancer at the age of 85. News started to circulate that Lagerfeld was in poor health after he skipped walking the runway at the Chanel couture show in January.
Karl Lagerfeld was born in 1933 in Hamburg, Germany and was an integral part of the fashion world from the very beginning of his career as Pierre Balmain’s assistant in 1955. With credits to his name at highly revered houses like Chloe and Fendi, his most notable work began when he became part of the Chanel family in 1983. Karl later grew to international success and recognition for his numerous talents as a designer, photographer, author and artist.
As we in Canada heard the news of Karl Lagerfeld’s passing, reactions started to pour in from influencers, editors, and fashion heavy hitters.
