“Keep calm and coffee on,” so the saying goes… but also make time to grab a snap or two! Coffee shops in Toronto come in all different shapes and sizes, and many of them are creatively stunning. When latte-making can be called an art, it’s really no surprise though, that coffee shops have become just as pleasing on the eyes; every good latte needs an equally artful backdrop.
One of the most frequented spots in the East, Odin is one part coffee shop, one part bar. It boasts clean architectural lines and interesting shapes, with a full-on wolf mural near the back. Photo op anyone? Self-dubbed as a Nordic-Canadian Cafe + Bar, the artwork and wood elements play on this theme. Oh, and did we mention the eats? The avocado toast is delish!
Right, smack, dab in the middle of downtown, people flock to Dineen on a regular basis. Despite the crowd, it’s well worth it! Sitting cozy in a historic Toronto building, it’s a beautiful juxtaposition of old meets new. The main draws are the incredible chandelier light piece, and the amazing tile flooring (you’ve definitely seen it on insta!).
Okay, if a picture of the tiled floor at Reunion Island Coffee hasn’t popped up in your feed, you may be living under a rock – an even better reason for you to go see it. The clean, white, bright space is ideal for the coffee-obsessed as they roast their own beans in-house. You can guarantee quality and flavour here.
FIKA Cafe has Kensington Market written all over it. That quaint charm comes from re-purposing old things and making them new again. Take for example the book wall which was wall-papered using 100’s of pages and books. Makes a very interesting backdrop, no?
Art exhibit? Art installation? What is it? Walking into De Mello is like walking into Wonderland. The Toronto coffee shop has bright pops of colour are every which way you look, cubist-type paintings spread over the walls and there are even several umbrellas hanging from the ceiling as an art piece. Sound odd? You’ll have to go see it to believe it.
Queen West’s favourite, Early Bird, is where all the trendy local folks go. Long and thin like most shops on the strip, Early Bird has clean white walls, decorated with modern-rustic furniture. The big floor-to-ceiling windows by the entrance let lots of natural light in and the metal bench just outside makes for a good photo op.
Sorry Coffee Co. is not sorry for being beautiful. Stop by the shop for a latte-gram or candid “I was just sipping my coffee” snap while enjoying a delish beverage!
Having a number of locations across Toronto, odds are there might be a Boxcar social semi-close to you. If not, it’s definitely worth a visit. Exposed brick, reclaimed wood, and metal features add for a real industrial look. It’s a good place to get settled back with a book (after some grams of course).
Balzac’s has a number of locations in Toronto, but each one was chosen for its historical significance. Stepping into one of their shops is almost like stepping back in time. The cafes are rich in vintage details and will offer some pretty unique Insta shots if you ask us.

Moving into a new space can be exciting, liberating and a bit overwhelming – especially when you begin to add up all of the expenses! Decorating your new home is best done on a budget, especially when you’re making a lot of purchases all at once. When it comes to new home décor, you’ll often find that you either don’t have a defined style yet or that your finances limit your tastes. Therefore, when you’re furnishing your home for the first time, shop at budget-friendly home décor retailers.
Here’s our list of where to shop for home décor on a budget:
Image via Cristina AvilaHave you checked out the home décor section at Walmart lately? Here you’ll find trendy, well-priced home décor and accessories specific to the season. We especially love Walmart’s private label brand hometrends for table accents that knock-off the likes of Urban Barn. Be warned: we’ve found that Walmart’s décor is not necessarily made to last. Furniture pieces should be purchased sparingly and to hold you over until you can invest in long-term pieces.
If you’re a fan of President’s Choice products (food or otherwise), Real Canadian Superstore is here to serve all of your kitchen needs. We found that PC really delivers on quality and a great price point whether you’re buying anything from wine glasses to kitchen towels. You can find a bunch of PC home décor at Loblaw stores across the city, however, you’re going to get the largest variety of kitchen tools, appliances, and accessories when you visit a Real Canadian Superstore.
Image via Cristina AvilaWith 20 locations across the GTA, JYSK is a great source for all things home organization. JYYK has amazing prices on all of those tedious but necessary, home storage solutions like hangers, shelving systems, baskets and shoe racks. While you can shop online, we recommend making a trip to one of their stores – not only will you save on shipping costs, but you can browse through the clearance sections unique to each location.
Kijiji is a great source for purchasing unique art and collectibles on a budget. It’s amazing how many new and interesting items you can find for sale on Kijiji by just changing your keywords in the search bar. Often times, sellers are looking to get rid of items quickly so you can easily haggle them down by a few dollars off of their asking price. Tip: When contacting a seller, see if they’re interested in a product swap instead of cash. Offer up a trade of your oversized mirror in exchange for their dining room table and save yourself the cash.
Image via Cristina AvilaHomeSense is every homeowner’s guilty pleasure. The savings on home décor and accessories storewide can get a little out of hand when you start to justify purchasing every single item. Stick to the ends of each aisle for the clearance sections. Here you’ll find red stickered items that are reduced an additional 20-50% off the already low price. Tip: look out for damaged pieces marked “AS IS” on the sticker. If you’re crafty, you may be able to utilize these items for a DIY project, otherwise, be careful – these items can be dangerous with broken glass and sharp edges.

At StyleDemocracy, we know shopping! We deliver the scoop on all things retail related including how to get the best value at your favourite stores. Hidden offerings, insider secrets and the ultimate savings… we’ve rounded up the 10 things every Loblaws shopper needs to know. Keep reading for the top tips for shopping at Loblaws.

Get the absolute best value by shopping Loblaws’ private label brand, President’s Choice. President’s Choice has created a huge assortment of quality food and household items that beat the pricing of most national brands. What’s the best part? If you’re not satisfied with a PC product, simply return it (even if it’s half eaten,) for a full refund.

Shop smarter by browsing the PC Insiders Report online before heading to Loblaws. In it, you’ll find the season’s newest President’s Choice products and awesome recipes. The PC Insiders Report offers a ton of inspiration for dinner parties and gift giving, especially helpful during the holidays!
Pick up some new skills by cooking President’s Choice products alongside the experts. Click here to sign up for PC Cooking School classes (available at select Loblaws locations at a very reasonable price).
Visit Loblaws’ Café before hitting up the grocery aisles for a caffeine fix that’s Instagram worthy. Pair your brew with any of the decadent doughnuts, macaroons or biscotti found at Loblaws’ Patisserie for a drool-worthy shopping treat.
Convenience is everything! You can now pick up beer and wine at select Loblaws locations. While Loblaws’ alcohol selection is a bit limited, it certainly comes in handy when an LCBO is closed or out of reach.
Loblaws’ price tags tell you everything you need to know about a product. We recommend being cautious of sale prices (which typically require items to be purchased in multiples to qualify for a discount). Also pay close attention to when “DNO” is marked on price tags. This equates to “Do Not Order”, meaning that Loblaws won’t carry this product for much longer so don’t get too attached to it.

Loblaws abides by the Retail Council of Canada’s Scanner Price Accuracy Code. What does this mean? Basically, Loblaws has agreed to provide customers with accurate and transparent pricing. Therefore, if an item scans differently from the price indicated on the shelf, a customer is entitled to get the item for free. The policy goes into a bit more detail but just ask any Loblaws employee and they’ll be able to assist you.

We’ve told you about the PC Plus program before and how using it along with the handy PC Plus app can help you to save money at the grocery store. If you’re still not familiar with this loyalty program, sign up! You’ll be prompted to download weekly coupons that are actually relevant to your shopping behaviour. Imagine receiving coupons to earn bonus points on the items you actually buy?
Look out for bright pink 50% off stickers on various produce and health and beauty items. You can save big on these items because they are either nearing their expiration date or have been discontinued. Find ‘Reduced’ displays hidden in corners or in shopping carts beside the Customer Service Desk where Loblaws doesn’t want you to find them.

Click & Collect is now available at select Loblaws locations. That’s right! Hop online and toss grocery items into your shopping cart (totaling a minimum of $30). For a $3 fee, you can schedule a pick-up at your convenience and avoid the hassle of crowded aisles during the holidays for a much more efficient grocery shopping experience.

Completely decorating ones home can be daunting. One can easily blow their intended budget without even trying. The best way to save your money while putting the finishing touches on your humble abode is to know where to look. Here’s our list of the best places to score great home stuff for cheap! We know our list won’t be complete so if you have any suggestions please let us know (list appears in no particular order).
Located in the heart of China Town, B&J Trading co. is a go to spot for plates, bowls and almost everything kitchen wise. Most of the goods here are asian inspired, so you can often find beautiful tableware with whimsical designs. What’s great about this place, is that the price is right, locals say it beats the dollar store in most categories.
If you’ve been into one of Kitchen Stuff Plus’ regular retail locations, you know they often have pretty great deals on everything kitchen. What’s great about the Outlet location, is that if your not that picky about brand, you can almost always find a deal on any small appliance you might be looking for. Toasters, mixers, and other similar items are often found anywhere from 20%-50% off. Definitely worth a trip.
You just moved. Your old couch doesn’t fit in your new apartment, and you need a cheap replacement because you blew your budget on the move. Parliament Furniture is your answer. Cheap furniture for people on a budget. Simple as that.
It’s pretty obvious that Ikea would make this list, but it truly is one of the best places to get great good looking furniture for better than designer furniture store prices. Getting a couch for under 2,000 is a breeze, and many range from $599- $1000. Make sure to stop in and munch on some hot dogs, or cinnamon buns.
Putting the finishing touches on your house can be tricky. If you think the route is to cover your walls with some pretty images, society6.com is a pretty good start. Browse thousands of images that can easily be converted into framed prints. $20- $50 will get you in the door.
If you just quickly jumped over to society6.com and found that your tastes are more upscale, than 1000museums.com is for you. Thousands of archival prints from some of the world’s best museums and collections are at your finger tips. A print alone will run you anywhere from $25- $200, framed $40-$400. Not exactly cheap, but you have finer tastes right?
Handmade touches often add flare to homes. For most of us, crafting a beautiful bookshelf or painting is but a dream. Enter Etsy. Esty.ca allows the craft-challenged to decorate their home with unique house ware with that home made look. Esty is a great place to get almost everything house and home and often in unique variations. Variations that will help make your pad blog worthy. Due to the fact that most of the products on etsy are hand crafted, prices can be expensive. But it is still significantly cheaper than if you bought the same thing in a designer boutique. We absolutely love these bamboo book shelves.

Let’s get real. The hardest part about working out is getting yourself to the gym. And moving into the fourth month of 2017, many of us have already let our fitness goals slip to the wayside. I’ll be the first to admit that the struggle to get motivated is very real. But one thing that always works for me (aside from #healthgoals, of course) is awesome new gear.
For years, New Balance has been a go-to for running shoes with their apparel collections playing second fiddle, but recently, they’ve upped their women’s apparel game, something they’re highlighting with Women’s Only Spaces in Sport Chek stores across Canada.
Featured in 18 locations nationwide, the New Balance Women’s Only spaces serve up some serious fitspiration. The collections are fresh, and while in the past New Balance has specifically catered to runners, their latest collections fit the lifestyles of all athletes – even fitness noobs like me.

Inside the New Balance Women’s Only Space at Sport Chek

Doing a little shopping with New Balance ambassador, Heather Gardner
Case in point: The high waisted Elixir Tight, which I had to grab when we dropped by Sport Chek Stouffville. With mesh paneled sides, these tights are stylish enough to wear out on the town, but they boast the NB Fresh and NB Dry technologies that wick sweat and resist odors. A seamless pocket upfront ensures no zippers jab you while you’re working the mat. Here, I pair it with the medium impact Pulse Bra – an outfit perfect for barre, yoga, hiking or cycling, and stylish to boot.

And because the tracksuit is making a major comeback, I had to try New Balance’s take on it. The Classic Pullover Hoodie and Sport Style Pant are anything but frumpy. Amazing fit, tapered legs and the soft poly-cotton blend will make you want to live in this outfit. Pair it with Fresh Foam sneakers (which are the closest you’ll ever get to walking on air), and you’ve got yourself a winning combo.

Take a closer look at some more of my favourite New Balance looks, picked with the help of New Balance ambassador Heather Gardner, and the New Balance Women’s Only Space at Sport Chek Stouffville below.

This post is sponsored by New Balance Canada as part of the New Balance Women’s Only Spaces by Sport Chek. In exchange for this post, I have received perks in the form of products and/or compensation. All opinions on this blog are my own.
