Some of the best gifts are the ones that come out of a stocking. After all, a stocking is the gift that keeps on giving! The only real rule when it comes to stocking stuffing is that the items must be compact enough to fit inside a traditional holiday-sized stocking. That being said, another thing to note is that you probably don’t want anything too expensive mixed in, as stocking presents are meant to feel a little bit more low-key and relaxed. They can include everything from tasty treats to practical buys, all catered personally to their recipient’s taste. If you’re looking for some stocking stuffers that won’t simply get breezed over while unwrapping, we’ve got some ideas for the various personalities on your list!

Nothing gets us in the holiday spirit quite like cozying up and watching a cheesy Christmas movie. Whether it be a cult classic movie that must be watched every single year without a miss, or a brand new Christmas movie starring Lindsay Lohan. We’ve rounded up some movies that should definitely be on your holiday watchlist before the season comes to an end.
There are two types of people in this world. The ones who love the movie Elf, and cotton-headed ninny muggins’. Elf has the perfect amount of humour and holiday joy to put anyone in a festive mood.
If you’re looking for more of an adult-themed comedy Christmas movie, you need to add The Night Before to your watchlist. It stars Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie. The 3 gather for their last annual Christmas Eve together and search for the best Christmas party ever.
Falling For Christmas, starring Lindsay Lohan, just came out this holiday season and seems to have made it on everyone’s watchlist. The movie is based around a young, newly engaged heiress that had a skiing accident in the days before Christmas, leaving her with amnesia.
Even the least-festive people can find some holiday spirit (or relatability) in The Grinch movie. This is one of those Christmas movies that needs to be re-watched on a yearly basis!
Spirited hit Apple TV screens this holiday season and stars Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, which alone makes it worthy for any movie watchlist. The movie is a musical version of Charles Dickens’s story of a miserly misanthrope who’s taken on a magical journey.
A classic Christmas movie with a unique twist, Klaus is an animated movie about a postman who is sent to a frozen town in the North, since he’s proven himself to be the worst postman at the academy. While he’s there he discovers a reclusive toymaker named… Klaus.
What’s better than one Christmas? Four! But not for this couple. Four Christmases is about a couple whose Christmas vacation plans fall apart, leaving them to attend four very different family get-togethers of their divorced parents. The movie is funny, heartfelt, and of course, festive.
Who doesn’t love a little nostalgia around the Holiday Season? We definitely don’t need to tell you the storyline of Home Alone, but we will remind you to add it to your annual holiday movie watchlist!
This 1994 Christmas movie classic has stood the test of time, still remaining to be one of the best Christmas movies! After a divorced dad who has custody of his son on Christmas Eve accidentally kills Santa, he slowly starts to become Santa, himself. After you watch The Santa Clause, you can watch the two sequels that follow! We sense a Christmas movie marathon coming.
Although, Harry Potter isn’t technically a Christmas movie, it sure puts us in the Christmas spirit. Specifically, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has a Christmas-y feel to it. Happy Christmas!

Even with all the merry and cheerful spirit, the holidays are stressful, and sometimes, you just need an escape. But with all the family obligations and holiday parties, it’s hard to get away for longer than a night. Luckily, we got your back this winter season!

Downtown Oakville is an underrated winter oasis. The downtown strip is filled with local shops and a massive Christmas tree begging to be Instagrammed. We recommend grabbing a hot chocolate and taking a walk along the lakeshore neighbourhood to check out the historic (and stunning) homes.

This 19th-century village is the perfect relaxing day trip destination. Spend the day stroll through the downtown core and perusing the charming local shops. At night, dine at quaint restaurants and buy yourself a bottle of wine from one of the famous wineries before you head home.

For the outdoorsy type, Algonquin Park is your winter haven. Grab some cross-country skis (or for the less athletic, snowshoes) and explore the stunning grounds. You might even see some incredible wildlife. A Rudolph spotting perhaps?

Blue Mountain is a perfect getaway to take with your best friend or partner. Get a day pass and tackle the ski hills together, then hit up the chalet for dinner and drinks, and even grab a beaver tail for dessert. Really, could a better winter’s day exist? You might even run into some wildlife!

The name may sound intimidating but Rattlesnake Point is an awesome day date. Get out there and explore what this beautiful conservation area has to offer. From stunning views to fun events, this is a great day trip option!

Whether it’s skating at the harbourfront or heading to Chinatown to explore, there are an endless amount of fun activities to do in Toronto. And if you’re a local, be a tourist in your own city. Don’t forget about all the holiday markets you can explore. You might be surprised just how different you look at it after the day’s done.

Check out the 80-foot limestone cliffs that descend into the frozen Grand and Irvine Rivers. The perfect spot for adventure enthusiasts who want to take in the natural beauty of the area. It’s an especially stunning sight in the winter. The Elora village has an old-world charm and century-old buildings that have been restored into gift shops, unique galleries, and adorable restaurants. If you haven’t been, it’s definitely worth checking out

Situated in the tiny town of Eugenia, the area encompasses 23 hectares of the Niagara Escarpment. The all-season trail wraps along the edge of ‘Cuckoo Valley’ with excellent views of the 30m high waterfall. If you’re feeling like a brisk hike, it’s a pretty stunning sight once everything is frozen. Beware of steep cliffs but enjoy the amazing views. You can even rent an Airbnb nearby and enjoy toasting s’mores by the fire if you’re looking to extend your day trip!

If you can’t get enough of those festive Christmas movies, then head up to Newmarket to visit the town where some of them were filmed. Located just 45 minutes north of Toronto, Newmarket is a no-brainer when it comes to an idyllic holiday-themed day trip. If you can believe it, 7 holiday made-for-TV movies were filmed here, including A Very Country Christmas, Christmas Wedding Planner, My Perfect Romance, Christmas in Paris, and more. For the ultimate movie-lovers tour through Newmarket, head to Holland Marsh Winery, Fairy Lake, Little Brew Hops, and the Pink Flamingo.

Escape to The County this holiday season for a picturesque day trip unlike any other. While Prince Edward County is highly popular and visited throughout the summer, it’s a day trip destination that shouldn’t be overlooked come winter. Pop by Drake Devonshire for all the cozy vibes while enjoying a good meal, stop by a local winery, and even go for a cross-country ski!

‘Tis the season for eating! Thanksgiving may be done and gone, but we’ve got plenty of food to look forward to from now until the end of the year.
From Halloween candy to holiday dinners with friends and family, good eats are never too far away. And if it’s a Swedish meal you’re looking for, you don’t have to look any further than IKEA.

Also known as a Swedish Julboard, Daily Hive reports that the feast will be available throughout the month of December, offering shoppers the opportunity to take part in Swedish Christmas traditions. As you may remember, the feast was available at select stores last year, too.

On the IKEA Swedish buffet menu, diners will find oven-baked or boiled Christmas ham, herring, marinated salmon, meatballs, eggs, a variety of cabbage, cheese, gingerbread, and so much more.
The entire meal is all-you-can-eat, so come with your baggy pants on! The best part is that tickets are just $19.99 for IKEA Family members, while children’s tickets are just $9.99. We’ll keep you in the loop once tickets become available.

Recognizing the importance of social responsibility, a growing number of companies in our home and native land are giving back this holiday season.
In fact, we’ve pretty much come to the point that if your organization isn’t involved in some sort of charitable, community or other do-good cause, you may want to reconsider what “business as usual” means to your brand.
Here’s how 9 Canadian companies are giving back this season.
Just in time for gift-giving season, Frank and Oak has launched the And Capsule Collection, featuring three unisex pieces that could easily become closet staples. The clothing is manufactured in Canada, and $5 from each sale goes to Equitas, an organization that works to eradicate the causes of poverty and promote human rights for all. (Read more about the initiative here.)

A perfect stocking stuffer (and one that comes with an important talking point), the “NICE” pin from Roots not only spreads positive vibes, it gives back as well. All proceeds will support WE programming for youth in indigenous communities, empowering them to become strong leaders in their communities.
Klick Inc. has once again released a hugely successful video to celebrate the holidays – this time with YouTube star Andrew Huang. Their “You Make Winter Warm” video stars hundreds of employees and has already broken 1 million views. For every free song download, the company will donate $1 to non-profit organization Operation Warm to buy new winter coats for children in need.

On December 15, popular Toronto contemporary tattoo shop Ink & Water Tattoos held a flash sale, whereby 50 per cent of the proceeds from all holiday-themed tattoos (and, apparently, there are more than you’d think) were donated to Nellie’s Shelter for women and children.
Toronto-based healthcare software company RL Solutions has powered the SickKids Milk & Cookies food truck this holiday season. From December 4 to 23, the goodness-packed food truck visits local events and neighbourhoods, offering a delicious Le Gourmand chocolate chip cookie accompanied with a refreshing glass of milk for a suggested donation of $10 to benefit the SickKids Foundation.
Canadian online baby shop Poppys Collection has created their custom Poppys Over baby cover for the new moms on your list this holiday season. The multi-functional gift works as a stroller cover, breastfeeding cover and a blanket. For every cover sold this holiday season, Poppys Collection will donate an item from their collection to the New Mom Project, a Toronto charity focused on providing basic baby necessities to families in need.
Last month, Canadian Tire introduced a program that makes life a little less nerve-racking for new families this holiday season and throughout the snowy months. To mark the launch of the MotoMaster Winter Edge tire, Canadian Tire partnered with Sault Ste. Marie’s Sault Area Hospital to award winter tires to expectant families with babies due this winter, making their drive home from the hospital less worrisome.

Toronto-based women’s fashion brand Miik has partnered with the Nanny Angel Network to create this infinity scarf this holiday season, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to the local charity that provides free childcare for women diagnosed with cancer. Not only does this gift support a local Canadian designer, it supports local women facing one of the most challenging times of their lives.
For the health-conscious foodies on your list, beloved local fashion designer, Izzy Camilleri, shares her personal healthy eating and lifestyle guidelines in her easy-to-read book, Izzy’s Eating Plan (available at select Indigo, Barnes & Nobles stores and online). You can feel even better about gifting the book knowing that a portion of proceeds from e-book sales are donated to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
