There are plenty of tips and tricks to help you save money while you shop. And in girl math, the money you save is just extra earnings in your pocket! From browser extensions to the best times to shop, consider this your savvy shopping guide.

Use these tips to save money the next time you go shopping:

Use Browser extensions, such as Honey

If you’re new to the world of browser extensions, you’re in for a treat. Honey, for example, is completely free to download, and it automatically searches for coupon codes while you shop. At checkout, you just click the Honey extension, and it does the rest – trying any and all recent coupon codes that customers have used on the specific site you’re shopping at. (Not sponsored, we just love it).

Wait for sales

It goes without saying, but we’re going to say it anyway – wait for sales. Especially if you’re planning on going on a shopping spree. That way, you’ll only spend a fraction of what you normally would. Different stores and brands have varying sale patterns, but dates like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Boxing Day, and towards the end of each season, are safe bets to expect markdowns. Also… you already know we love a good warehouse sale.

Make Wish Lists

One of the best ways to save money is by avoiding impulse buys. Keep a shopping wish list on hand and try not to stray from it. For example, if you notice a particular gap in your wardrobe, jot it down in your notes app and focus on shopping for the things on your wish list rather than just aimlessly shopping. You can also make wish lists directly on most online retailer’s websites in order to keep tabs on your most coveted pieces.

Pay With A Credit Card

You have to be careful with this one, as it can be all too easy to slip into debt, but simply paying with your credit card instead of debit or cash (only spending the amount you would on debit or cash, anyway) can earn you points and cashback (depending on your plan), but it also allows you to shop in a secure way.

Sign-Up For Emails

As much as no one likes receiving too many branded emails in their inbox, you never know when that one email with a coupon code or information on a limited-time sale will come in. It’s definitely worth signing up for your favourite brand’s email subscriptions! Fun fact: In our weekly newsletter, we always include a round-up of 20 sales happening at the moment. 😉

Join Rewards Programs

Almost every brand you shop at likely has some kind of rewards program at this point. Be sure to join the reward programs from your favourite brands to get all kinds of perks. Sephora, for example, offers a point-based rewards program, where you can earn points to get free products or money off – plus get access to exclusive discounts during sale times.

Know The Return Policy

We’ve all been guilty of buying an item, it not working out, and then it just ends up staying in the bag past the literal point of no return. Before buying anything, make sure to know the return policy, and actually return within the return window if it doesn’t end up working out! Otherwise, you might as well just throw out your money.

Compare Prices

Shopping savvy is all about making informed shopping decisions. Before pulling the trigger on a specific item, do your research to ensure you’re getting the best price.

Use Coupons

Whether you’re shopping online or in person, never neglect the power of a coupon! Browse the internet, check your mail for flyers, and tune into your favourite influencers offering discount codes!

Do Your Own Quality Inspecting

When shopping in person, always do your own quality inspection. Check for any flaws, loose seams, or signs of a poorly made item. Follow @wangjenniferr on TikTok for tips on what to look for when checking garments for quality. When shopping online, be sure to perform your own little inspection when you receive it before pulling off any tags.

Abercrombie has come a long way in recent years. The brand that was once known for its lack of inclusivity and questionable business practices has slowly been earning back the trust of its customers since its rebrand. Now, Abercrombie & Fitch has once again become a go-to shopping destination to find fashion essentials that people actually want – ditching heavy logos and an overall “fraternity” aesthetic for wearable, more sophisticated closet staples. In 2021, it launched its famous Curve Love Fit, and a range of extended sizing, signaling that it was (finally) ready to embrace inclusivity.

Now that Abercrombie has earned its way back into public graces, having established a large cult following on TikTok, specifically. It’s no secret that the brand has grown into a popular shopping hub for trendy styles and wardrobe basics alike. But before you fill your shopping bag and click “checkout,” – there are some tips and secrets you need to know to get the most out of your experience.

You need to know these Abercrombie & Fitch shopping secrets!

Popular Items Sell Out Fast

If you’ve ever visited the Abercrombie site looking forward to buying an item you were recommended by your fave TikToker, chances are, it’s already sold out. Sizes of popular items are notorious for selling out fast. But they do almost always come back in stock, so be sure to check back often.

Curate a List

When shopping online (or in-app), you can add items to your list to keep tabs on them with ease. This is an especially useful tool for those sold-out items you want to keep an eye on!

Check For Stackable Coupons

You may remember a couple of years back, Abercrombie had a major viral moment with its stackable coupon “glitch.” Customers were getting hauls of clothing for mere dollars (guilty as charged). Although nothing with as significant of savings has seemed to happen since, there are still times when certain coupons are stackable. So it’s always worth a try!

Wait For A Sale

Abercrombie is no stranger to a promotion or sale. While some items you may want to act fast on so they don’t sell out – some pieces are worth waiting until they to go on sale. The brand’s sales are usually pretty great, too (and are held often)!

Keep Tabs On Socials

As we mentioned above, Abercrombie has quite the social media following. Find social accounts that share sale updates and other valuable information to always have the inside scoop. For example, @influencedby_ on TikTok is always sharing sale alerts, and A&F is definitely on her radar.

Create A myABERCROMBIE Account & Subscribe To Emails

As with any retailer or brand, you are going to want to subscribe to Abercrombie’s email list to get exclusive offers and stay up to date on new arrivals. Plus, if you make a myABERCROMBIE account, you’ll earn points as you shop and get exclusive member discounts from time to time. Members can earn up to 100,000 myAbercrombie points (or $400 value in Rewards) per calendar year. After spending $500 in a year, you automatically get VIP status – which comes with even more perks.

Enjoy Free Returns

Whether you purchased online or in-store, you have 30 days to return your items in their original condition for a full refund. Just be sure to keep your receipt!

Get Free Shipping When You Spend $90

Abercrombie seems to always be offering free shipping if you spend $90 or more. While you may not want to spend $90 in order to get free shipping, you’ll find it’s not all that hard to do. Wait until your cart hits the mark to press the checkout button to save some extra dollars!

Explore Its Curve Love Fit

If you’ve ever struggled to find your perfect fit that provides room in the hips and thighs yet still hugs your waist in the right way, Abercrombie’s Curve Love is about to be your new best friend. The line features additional room (two extra inches) through the hip and thigh for curve-hugging comfort. The fit is great for curvy gals in standard or plus sizes.

Get Your Perfect Hem Length

One of Abercrombies saving graces is that it offers extra short, short, regular, long, and extra long sizing for its bottoms. We, as humans, come in all different heights, after all, so shouldn’t our pants, too? A&F says yes.

Reformation hardly needs an introduction, but we’ll give you one anyway. Reformation (or Ref, as dubbed as its official nickname) was founded in 2009 as a vintage clothing store. Now, the brand is widely known as a pioneer in the sustainable fashion space, providing original designs made from low-impact materials, rescued deadstock fabrics, and repurposed vintage clothing. Over the years, it’s built a cult following, notably including numerous celebrities like Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, and the list could go on.

Reformation is known not only for its sustainability practices but also for its chic and timeless designs, from wedding-guest attire to business-casual fashion and everything in between. If you’ve yet to enter the world that is Ref, it can feel almost like walking up and sitting at the “cool” table in school (even though this cool crowd is actually quite welcoming). That being said, no one will ever suspect you’re new to the club with these shopping tips!

You need to know these Reformation shopping tips.

Reformation Hosts Two Major Sales A Year

If you’ve had your eye on something at Reformation and were hoping to snag it on sale, you’ll likely have to wait until one of its two yearly sales (good news: as we type, its summer sale is live). Reformation traditionally only has two major sales a year, one around the end of summer and one in the winter. The sales typically begin with markdowns starting at 30%, with further markdowns as time goes on – but yes, things do sell out, so you may not want to wait.

Return Items For Free Within 30 Days

Don’t be afraid to try out different sizes or styles, as Reformation’s return policy allows for free returns within 30 days! That being said, if you want to send everything in your order back via mail, there may be a shipping charge. However, you won’t be charged if you keep at least one item from your order or return in-store.

Enjoy Free Shipping

Reformation offers free shipping on all orders across Canada and the U.S., so you can shop online as much as your heart desires without worrying about annoying shipping costs.

Shop Ref Items Secondhand

It’s no secret that Reformation is by no means cheap, but if you want to shop the brand on a budget, or even discover past designs, there is no shortage of secondhand Reformation items listed online on resale sites like The RealReal, Depop, and Poshmark.

Utilize Online Shopping Filters

Reformation’s online shopping filters are actually quite extensive! Save time browsing through thousands of items on the site by narrowing down your search by size, colour, print, etc. You can even filter your sustainability preferences!

There Are More Sizes In The Back

In case you’re not familiar with Reformation’s in-store layout, the shopping floor is essentially a showroom showcasing each style. The sizes shown on display are not the only sizes available! Once you find an item you might want to try on, you can add it to your dressing room using a supplied tablet – or simply ask a sales associate.

Try On Items In Its High-Tech Dressing Rooms

Commonly referred to as a “Clueless closet experience,” Reformation’s dressing rooms feature touchscreen tablets where you can request more items and sizes without even having to leave the room. They also have different lighting settings to choose from, so you can see how your outfits would look in every environment before making a purchase decision. Its dressing rooms are seriously game-changing.

If you’re new to shopping on eBay, you’re in for a treat. The site is filled with every category you could ever want to shop for, including fashion finds, vintage collectables, designer goods, and so much more! If you know what you’re doing, you can find some really great pieces you may not have found otherwise. There are also a ton of great deals on eBay, too, which is always a plus. We’ve gathered some tips, tricks, and secrets to help you navigate shopping on eBay like a pro.

Check out these 9 eBay shopping secrets!

Shop From Top-Rated Sellers

Look for a little gold badge while shopping on eBay, this indicates an item is being sold by a “Top-Rated Seller”. This means this seller has a great reputation among its customers and is likely safe to buy from. If you’re shopping for an expensive item, this badge gives that extra measure of reassurance that you’ll have a good experience.

Check For Authenticity Guarantee

If you’re shopping for a designer piece on eBay, like a pair of sneakers or a designer bag for instance, you can filter your feed to shop eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee service! Where eBay actually has the item professionally inspected to ensure it’s authentic.

Shop Using PayPal for an extra measure of protection

Remember, eBay is a seller-to-buyer marketplace, eBay itself isn’t specifically selling to you. Although eBay does have security measures in place to avoid customers getting scammed, using a PayPal account to make your purchases adds an extra layer of protection to get your money back if you need to.

Bid on items

If you’re new to eBay, the site is kind of known for its bidding capabilities. Which means you can often score an item for a steal by bidding! Sometimes even at a lower price than regular market value. Just do your research first so you don’t end up over-bidding. Most importantly, if you place a bid, be prepared to buy! If you win, it’s yours.

Check Reviews/Items Sold

eBay actually shows you how many items a seller has sold as well as their overall rating. Always check this out before buying from a seller. And maybe don’t buy from sellers with 1-star reviews.

Compare Pricing

A cool feature eBay has is filtering what has already been sold, so if you’re shopping for an item that has been sold on eBay in the past, you can see how much it has sold for to ensure you’re getting a fair price. You should also do a simple Google search of the piece you’re shopping for, too, in order to compare prices.

Make an Offer

Some sellers allow you to make offers on specific items! If they’re allowing offers, under the listing there will be a button that says “Make an offer”, if you see that button – always make an offer before buying, because that indicates the seller is open to other prices. Just don’t lowball too much. Sellers tend not to like that.

Add to your watchlist

Adding to your watchlist on eBay, not only allows you to keep tabs on your coveted items, but often, sellers will actually offer you a special discount after you add an item to your watchlist in order to close the deal!

Check the shipping cost

Always check the shipping cost before bidding, making an offer, or buying. There are some instances where the shipping cost makes the item not even worth it anymore. And some sellers try to be tricky by selling an item at a good price and then gauging the shipping cost, so pay attention!

Get Alerted For Your Desired Items

Never miss a new listing by clicking the little heart and text that says “save this search”. That way, you’ll get an email/notification whenever a new listing is added under that search.

Filter Your Results

It’s always a good idea to filter your search results, so you’re only looking at the items that fit your criteria. You can filter location, size, brand, price, condition, and more on the left side of the screen when you’re searching for something.

A helpful online shopping tip to keep in mind is that if you’re unsure about an item, leave it in your cart overnight. If you’re signed up to the mailing list, many brands will have abandon cart emails that they’ll send out with a discount code.

Read Model Descriptions & Size Charts

Some shopping sites often have the height of the model that’s showing off the clothing in the product photos. This is a great indicator to compare your body type and height with the model, to purchase the best size. You can also check out the size charts to see if you’re browsing the correct sizes.

Don’t Skip On The Reviews

On many sites, you’ll be able to find reviews of the products that you’re browsing. These reviews can be a lifesaver when deciding on the items that you currently have in your cart.

Use A Browser Extension For Discount Codes

There are so many browser extensions that you can download to do all of the discount code searching for you. At checkout, a notification will pop up to search for available coupon codes for the site you’re on! It’s as easy as that.

Head Straight To The Sale Section Tab

Once you’ve started your virtual shopping trip, head over to the sale section first on each site. You might find exactly what you’re looking for at a discounted price and save some cash.

Pick-Up Instead Of Ship (When You Can)

Recently, a variety of brands offer a pick-up option that’s totally free of charge. Typically, there’s a minimum spend to get free shipping, so if you’re under that amount and have the option of pick-up then definitely save your coin and head on over to the location and grab your order.

Promotion Trap

Most of the time brands have many enticing promotions on-site, whether that be a BOGO deal or even a 2-for-1. At first, it may seem very intriguing but usually, the brand is getting you to just spend more money than you had planned. For example, if a t-shirt is $20 and the deal is BOGO 50% off, you’ll end up spending an extra $10 if you get the second item. If you don’t need that extra t-shirt, it’s definitely better to save that money because it totally adds up. Be sure to scan your cart to see if you’ve fallen victim to the promotion trap!

Return Policies

Before you go and check out, make sure to head on over to the return policy section. Sometimes stores won’t let you return certain items, or even charge money for an online return. This can definitely be a deciding factor in making a purchase, so don’t skip this tip!
