Toronto, Say Bye Bye to Metropass!

The tax-deductible Metropass will go the way of the dinosaurs next month with the TTC announcement of its termination. Presto monthly passes will take its place. Customers can purchase a TTC monthly pass or a 12-month Presto pass.

The transit commission’s website states that while Metropass will no longer be accepted after December 31, 2018, you can still buy tickets, tokens and TTC passes until December 31, 2019. The last day to buy tickets and tokens is August 3, 2019, but they will be valid until December 31, 2019. In June 2019, the TTC will introduce a Presto ticket for single use travel, and you will still be able to pay by cash.

The move is not unexpected. The TTC has been moving towards a fully cashless payment system for a while. Hardcore Metropass collectors will be sad to give up their rainbow plastic discs, but it will cut back on waste products. Presto cards users can use stickers to funk up their cards.
