Industry insiders and Drugstorenews.com are reporting that Birchbox has been in discussion with Walmart about a potential sale.
Walmart has been picking up e-commerce retailers left, right and centre. As the retailer tries to position itself in the digital landscape, industry insiders point out that Birchbox, if acquired, would be Walmart’s fifth acquisition in the digital space within the last year. This would be a solid move for Walmart.
In addition to Birchbox’s e-commerce presence, the brand also operated two stores, one in New York’s Soho neighbourhood and the other in Paris.
