If you’ve yet to take your annual visit – it runs all the way up to New Year’s Eve, so there’s still plenty of time! This year’s list of sponsors includes none other than Dior, giving the Winter Village a touch of luxury in the air. Although the Dior-themed Christmas tree alone would make your visit worthwhile, there is plenty to do at the Toronto Christmas Market this year! Before your visit, make sure to check out the ticket details, as some dates and times require tickets.
You simply can’t visit The Toronto Christmas Market without taking some time to admire (and get a picture with) the Christmas tree. This year’s tree was designed by Parfums Christian Dior, so needless to say that it’s absolutely stunning. It features 70,000 lights, 400 custom ornaments, and 1,000 custom DIOR star charms decorated throughout it.
Throughout the village, there are various holiday photo ops that are sure to spice up your Instagram feed. Take a picture with your partner at the Iconic Big Heart, gather some friends around Santa’s sleigh, take the perfect fit-pic at the 11 feet-tall LED stars, and don’t forget to get some shots with the 7 feet-tall snowpeople, of course.
There are 12 hidden gingerbread people around The Distillery Winter Village – find the one wearing a Santa hat, take a selfie, and share it on your Instagram story tagging @distilleryTO and @distilleryhospitality for a chance to win a $100 gift card to The Distillery Restaurants Corp!
You can enjoy live entertainment from local artists throughout the holiday season, as well as sing Christmas Carol Sing-a-longs with the Candy Cane Carolers when they’re performing!

When the cold weather hits, it can be tempting to stay bundled up inside hibernating for the next four to six months (or however long it takes until we see the sun again). With snow on the ground and temperatures in the double negatives, the last thing on anyones mind is going on a date. But this year don’t let your love life catch the winter blues. These cheap and cozy winter dates will make you fall in love with the city you live in – and maybe even with that special someone you bring along with you.

Until the end of November, the Royal Ontario Museum is hosting an art-filled Friday night bash. Discover the ROM like never before with food, drinks, and musical performances. Want to impress your date with your stunning art and history knowledge but can’t make it to the party? Not to worry, on the third Tuesday of every month admission to the museum is totally free!

The annual Toronto Christmas Market is a must-see attraction in the months leading up to the holidays. If you haven’t been, then you definitely need to check it out and if you have then you know how magical it is. Stroll hand in hand with your date as you browse the vendors for unique gifts and tasty winter treats. With Christmas carollers singing in the background and Christmas lights giving off a romantic glow, it will feel like a scene from a Christmas movie. All the holiday fun starts on November 14 and admission is free Monday to Thursday, but will only cost you $8 on the weekend.
Skating is such a classic and fun winter activity – making it an obvious idea for a cute and casual date. For an under-the-radar spot, you and your date can avoid the crowds of tourists at Nathan Phillips Square and head to The Bentway to slip on your skates instead. This outdoor event space under the Gardiner Expressway opened last year and transforms in the winter into a winding skating trail.

If you and your significant other are live music fans, then a concert might just be the perfect date for you guys. A show at iconic Toronto music venue, Danforth Music Hall is your chance to see an up-and-coming artist in a more intimate setting. Who knows, you might even get to see the next Drake or Shawn Mendes. For some pre-concert fuel, the venue just opened its own restaurant, the Danforth Sidebar.

Going for drinks is, understandably, the most common first date idea. It’s a low-pressure way to get to know someone in a casual environment, and the drinks help chase away any first date nerves. If you’re looking to switch it up a bit, we recommend going to a speciality bar this winter. After all, the best thing about winter is the excuse to drink all the warm drinks we were too sweaty to have in the summer. Her Father’s Cider Bar + Kitchen on Harbord has a selection of over 100 ciders to choose from, so you and your date can compete to find the best tasting one.

This historic Toronto theatre is reopening on December 6 after a major renovation just in time to host your winter movie dates. The theatre will show a mix of new films and older classics as well as a variety of live shows. The art deco building will add a vintage feel to your date, giving it much more character than just seeing the newest blockbuster at the movie theatre at your local mall.
From January to March, The Distillery District is being transformed into a visual experience put on by the Toronto Light Festival. This is the third year for the festival, so you know it’s going to be better than ever before. You and your date can check out all the colourful exhibits and admire the incredible light instillations.

This yearly event is a food lover’s dream. Nearly 200 of Toronto’s best restaurants participated last year, offering three course, prix fixe menus at special prices. This is the perfect opportunity for you and your date to try out some of the best flavours our city has to offer. Winterlicious is back from January 31 until February 13 so mark your calendars!

While we’re sad that summer is officially over, there are plenty of exciting things to look forward to this fall and winter. From celebrating Halloween underwater at Ripley’s Aquarium to the annual Toronto Christmas Market, there are so many events worth leaving the house for — no matter how cold it gets!
And for those who love the holidays, the Toronto Christmas Market is just around the corner.
Which means that you can take in all things holiday-related in less than a month! This year, the market will feature tons of live entertainment, vendors to peruse for gifts, and of course, plenty of food like German potato pancakes and more.
But if you’re thinking of hitting up the Toronto Christmas Market on a weekend, there is a fee involved to keep crowds at bay.
You can buy tickets online, which cost $8 in advance, $12 day-of, or $30 for a premium experience pass, which allows you to bypass the market’s entry and exclusive access into indoor warming lounges. There are also limited tickets available at the entrance day-of, but your best bet is to buy them online to guarantee entry! All proceeds from ticket entries go to charity.
This year, the good folks at Toronto Christmas Market are also giving visitors the chance to visit for free on the weekend.
On the weekends of November 15 to 16 and November 22 to 24, you can get free admission into the Toronto Christmas Market just by bringing in a donation of eight non-perishable food items. The food will go to the Daily Bread Food Bank, so you can feel extra good about your visit.
Visitors can drop off their canned goods at a donation bin outside of the Ticket Tent in exchange for admission — it’s a great way to spread the holiday cheer to those who need it most.

During the throes of winter, sometimes all you need is a little pick-me-up with your girlfriends to cheer you up.
Not all of us have the time or money to hop on a plane and escape to a sunny destination, but that doesn’t mean you can’t escape the mundane of everyday! A girl’s getaway (or staycation) is just what you need.
Round up the gang and take notes ’cause we here at StyleDemocracy have mastered the girl’s weekend. Whether it’s for a birthday, a bachelorette, or just because, you can’t go wrong following our handy guide.

When it comes to the city, there really is no shortage of hotel options. But if you’re looking for one with a gorgeous view, the Westin Harbour Castle is a no brainer. Situated on Lake Ontario, the historic hotel has everything you need for the perfect girl’s weekend in Toronto: fabulous restaurants like Mizzen (hello, breakfast buffet!) and the famous sky-high Toula, room service, plush mattresses, a big pool, and a 24-hour fitness studio. Forgot your gym clothes? Don’t fret — the Westin Gear Lending program has you covered with sneakers and gym apparel.

At the Westin Harbour Castle, there are a number of different packages to choose from. The Winter Getaway Package, for example, includes a $10 Starbucks gift card and two vouchers to the Harbourfront Natrel Ice Rink.
For those with larger groups, an executive suite is a must for an old school slumber party. Featuring a king and two double beds, plus additional pull-out beds, the luxe suite is perfect for gatherings, but roomy enough for those who need some personal space. Oh, and did we mention that your furry friends are invited, too? Bonus!

While there are a number of incredible spas within walking distance — think Spa My Blend by Clarins and SpaZen — there’s no need to blow your budget when you stay at a hotel like the Westin Harbour Castle. In fact, the perfect girl’s weekend is DIYing a spa for you and your friends. First stop? The hotel’s sauna, whirlpool, and pool to kick start your relaxation.
Afterward, head back to your room, slip on a fuzzy robe, and indulge in your favourite products. To combat dry, winter skin, we packed the Laline Thermal Mask that heats up, unclogs pores, and is packed with Vitamins A, E, and chamomile extract, and Scentuals Vitamin E Beauty Oil that helps tone, firm, and moisturize skin, as well as strengthen hair.
And don’t forget your nails! Essie is our polish of choice — the new Treat, Love & Colour collection is a current fave.

In Toronto, the world is your oyster! The Waterfront is beautiful and there’s always something to check out. Case in point: the Ice Breakers Exhibit! Featuring five interactive installations by Canadian and international artists, the exhibit runs along Queens Quay and is completely free to check out. Later in the winter from March 9 to 10, Sugar Shack TO will be open with winter activities like a marketplace, ice rink, obstacle course, and more.
But if you’re looking to explore even further, grab a Presto pass! The transit card can score you discounts at all of Toronto’s best attractions, like Ripley’s Aquarium, the ROM, and more.

Whether you’re a hardcore foodie or just in it for the ‘gram, there are plenty of restaurants within arm’s reach. Just a short walk from the Westin Harbour Castle, you’ll find plenty of mouthwatering choices, including Fresh on Front.
The vegan restaurant has choices that everyone in your friend group will love. Not to mention, they serve some fabulous craft cocktails. Do yourself a favour and stop by.
Grab a seat in one of the plush velvet booths and order the table a bowl of Fresh’s famous quinoa onion rings and buffalo cauliflower. You can’t go wrong with any of the mains (though, the burgers are delicious) and be sure to order all of the cookies for dessert.

Instagram/@_followingmyheart
But If you’re interested in taking the path less traveled, head to the Distillery District, which was recently named one of the coolest shopping spots in the world and check out the Toronto Light Fest while you’re at it. Or put on your walking shoes and visit some of the most underrated shopping destinations in the city.

Christmas might be more than a month away, but that doesn’t mean that Toronto’s waiting to get the city ready for the holidays. From Hudson’s Bay’s big window unveiling with Carly Rae Jepson and their decked out basement, to parades and light shows galore, there are tons of incredible options for getting into a wintery mood.
One Toronto tradition that can’t be missed is the Toronto Christmas Market, which officially opens to the public on Thursday, November 15. For those who don’t know, the market, which has been ranked one of the top holiday markets in the world, pops up each year in the Distillery District and transforms into Southern-Ontario’s version of the North Pole.

Instagram/@cirqos
This year, in addition to 40,000 twinkling lights and Instagram photo opportunities like the market’s 50-foot tree, the Christmas Market will feature a slew of daily musical entertainment on their outdoor stage with themes like bluegrass, world music, holiday jazz, pop, and instrumental, vocal, and choir ensembles. Not to mention, a daily interactive show dubbed, “Santa’s Elves Sing-Along” — something that’s sure to get kids and adults going. Check out their scheduled events to get the full picture.

Instagram/@shaunamichellle
First time visitors have got to try the market’s classics: mulled wine and a traditional turkey leg. But if you’re looking to explore other options, there’s a vendor with offerings to suit everyone’s palettes.
This year on the roster, visitors can enjoy things new to the market like chocolate fondue, served under the canopy at Cluny Bistro; Boku Noodle Bar, which is open year ’round but will be decking their patio out with fire pits and lounge chairs; and butter and jerk chicken, which will be served at select cabins on the cobble streets. Other notable eateries making a return to the market include Wafel Bar, Tornado Potato, Eva’s Original Chimneys, and Raclette.

Instagram/@tastesbyjade
El Catrin will have a Tequila Terrace featuring cocktails by the Toronto-owned, Mexican-made brand, Tromba. The market will feature two areas dedicated to beer lovers: the Mill Street beer garden and the Winter Craft Beer Lounge. The latter will also be hosted on El Catrin’s patio.
Other spots to grab a drink with your holiday-loving family and friends include the Holiday Spirits Square on the Archeo Trattoria Patio, which will be sampling premium vodkas, brandy, and wines; the PMA Canada Holiday Lounge, which will serve up toasted coconut rum hot chocolate and cinnamon spiced eggnog on the Pure Spirits Oyster House patio; and the PMA Canada Wine Hut, located in front of Cluny Bistro, serving up — you guessed it — wine!

Instagram/@shaun_nie
Of course, a market wouldn’t be complete without a little shopping, so be sure to check out the Distillery District’s regular roster of shops while you make your way across the market. Not only is it a good way to warm up, but the stores are a great place to cross names off your holiday shopping lists, too.
For opening day, the market will hosting Opening Ceremonies starting at 6 p.m., with performances by Barbra Lica and Sharon Riley.
While the market is closed on Mondays, it’s completely free to visit Tuesday to Thursday, and Friday until 5 p.m. Weekend tickets can be purchased online and at the door for $6. Express passes, which let you jump the admission line, are $20 each.

There are few things as appealing and stunning as Europe in the summertime. Exotic places, foreign languages; there’s just something so dreamy about spending a summer travelling through Europe. But not all of us can afford a plane ticket to the other side of the world for summer vacation.
Fortunately there are multiple places right here in Toronto that give off major European vibes. With so many European neighbourhoods throughout the city, it’s no surprise that Toronto has some of the best European cuisines around — next to the real thing that is. But it doesn’t just stop at the restaurants; from bars to coffee shops to parks, there are hidden European-esque gems throughout the city that are sure to transport you somewhere else for the day.
Here are 15 places to go in Toronto if you want to feel like you’re in Europe – no plane ticket necessary.
550 Wellington St. W

Colette Grand Cafe (Image: Instagram/@ColetteToronto)
This Parisian-style café is only a few years old but it has since grown into a King West area staple. Its a-la-carte and lavish Sunday buffet brunch, elegant atmosphere and pastel accents make this spot one of the prettiest French restaurants in the city.
550 Bayview Ave.

Evergreen Brick Works (Image: Instagram/@barbifromtheblock)
Toronto’s Evergreen Brick Works can work for nearly any European country. Between the wildlife, sporadic graffiti and wide open spaces, this spot if the perfect place to escape Toronto and pretend to be anywhere in Europe for the day.
1156 Queen St. E

Tango Coffee Palace (Image: Instagram/@lauratuckerslife)
Between the exposed brick walls and the plush, velvety red chairs, Tango Palace has taken a page right out of Belgium’s playbook. If the fresh brewed coffee isn’t enough to make you want to lounge under its coppery detailed ceiling, the delicious baked goods will.
454 Parliament St.

House on Parliament (Image: Instagram/@smiley_princess)
If London is calling but your bank account doesn’t quite seem to be getting the memo, head over to The House on Parliament for some traditional British pub fare and savoury European beers.
38 Wellington St. E

Uncle Tony’s (Image: Instagram/@lynofay)
Everyone loves great Italian food and Uncle Tony’s does just that. This old-fashioned Italian restaurant has been serving up massive pizza pies for years, and although its decor may seem a bit cheesey (pun intended), the classic Italian touches does the country justice.
607 College St.

Dinner at the Walton (Image: Instagram/@ariadnamorogan)
The Walton is one spot where the decor has a very crisp Euro-edge to it. The dark mahogany finishes, leather booths and crystal glasses are like something you’d see at a cocktail bar in Vienna.

Bar Reyna is one of the dreamiest restaurants in the city with its jewel-toned and gold decor. This spot will make you feel like you’re tucked away in a small bistro on the Mediterranean coast rather than somewhere in Yorkville. Oh, and don’t forget to check out their secret garden; an all season patio hidden in the back with twinkling lights and paper lanterns hanging above.

There’s just something about Dineen Coffee Company that resembles a late 1950s style Prague café. Maybe it’s the intricate tiled flooring or the large glass chandeliers, but regardless of what it may be, Dineen makes us feel like we’re in Europe with every sip of our latte.

Distillery District (Image: Instagram/@bararie1127)
Toronto’s historic Distillery District is namesake in its own right but if one didn’t know any better, the cobblestone streets lined with little boutiques and specialty shops could easily be mistaken for a side street somewhere in Ireland or the Netherlands.
