Spooky season is upon us, and Halloween is just around the corner! Whether you’re planning to attend a Halloween party, take little ones trick or treating, or simply can’t resist the urge of getting dressed up, it’s time to start planning your costume. As much as we all love a spook-filled Halloween costume, we can’t deny the appeal of wanting to feel your most chic and stylish on the holiday dedicated to dressing up – even while pretending to be someone (or something) else. In other words, if you don’t want your Halloween costume to disrupt your aesthetic Instagram feed, these are the costumes for you.
With the new Wicked film coming out not long after Halloween, it feels extra relevant to dress up as Galinda or Elphaba this year! Either of the characters works as stand-alone costumes, but would be even more recognizable as a duo! It’s giving Yin and Yang vibes.
Get super glam this Halloween by dressing up as a character from the iconic Regency-era show, Bridgerton. All you need is a dress with an empire waist, some statement costume jewellery, and an elegant updo. Add a crown to channel your inner Queen Charlotte.
One of the most chic and stylish costumes to date is dressing up as a 1920s flapper. Join us in a brief history lesson. According to the Oxford Dictionary, a flapper was a “fashionable young woman intent on enjoying herself and flouting conventional standards of behaviour.” They were known for wearing “short” dresses (at the time, knee-length), sporting a bob haircut, and enjoying a good time.
~ She was a fairy ~ Fairies or faeries, have been a classic Halloween costume choice for seemingly all of time. You may have even dressed up as a fairy for Halloween in childhood! The theme of fairies has flourished over the years and has become reimagined as an entire aesthetic (i.e. Fairycore). If you want to look cute but still dressed up, you can’t go wrong with a mini dress, wings, and a flower crown.
Okay, so you want to be a little scary and chic this Halloween. Carrie is your girl (and we’re not talking Bradshaw. Although, her character also makes for a great costume). Essentially, get ready like you’re about to attend prom, and then accessorize with fake blood. It’s fool-proof.
Who knew dressing up as The Joker could be so chic? For this costume, it’s really all in the hair and makeup – you don’t even need to shop for a costume! Get some green hair paint (temporary, of course), and then have fun with creating a Joker-esque makeup look. (Editor’s note: I did this costume last Halloween, and it was super fun).
Is there a costume more chic than the Black Swan, herself? Take ballerina-core to the next level this Halloween and dress up as the infamous Black Swan – bonus points if you have a friend who wants to be the still chic, but more innocent, White Swan.
Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction is such an easy costume to put together, yet is still so recognizable with the help of a chic black bob wig and a fake nosebleed. The rest of the costume you likely already have in your closet!
Take notes from Olivia Rodrigo and dress up as the iconic Betty Boop for your next costume party! With a mini red dress, a heart garter, and face-framing curls, everyone will know who you are. She’s the definition of glam, if you ask us.
IRL, Poison Ivy is so not chic – but for Halloween? The chicest. We don’t make the rules. There’s nothing chicer than saying “Don’t touch me” in the form of a costume.

Believe it or not, Halloween is around the corner and will be here before we know it! If you haven’t put any thought into your costume yet, we get it. But unless you want to show up to your Halloween festivities in some cat ears and eyeliner whiskers (no hate here), it’s probably time to start planning a costume. Whether you want to go full out or play it more casual – we’ve gathered some of the best Halloween costume inspiration to help you decide!
With the Barbie movie having premiered this year, we expect to see a lot of Barbie-themed costumes this Halloween! You can opt to go as Traditional Barbie or get creative and go as one of the many other Barbies featured in the movie (Weird Barbie would be iconic)! You can even make it a couple costume and go with someone as Barbie and Ken.
Wednesday Addams has always been a classic (and great) Halloween costume. And it’s not all that difficult to pull off! Put on a chic black Wednesday-esque outfit, throw in 2 braids, and finish off the look with some dark eye makeup, and you’re pretty much set.
Taylor Swift is not-so-arguably the most well-known celeb out there. Her recognizable looks make for great costumes. You can play it simple by wearing a 22-themed t-shirt stating one of its famous lines, such as “not a lot going on the moment,” or go more elaborate with something very bedazzled, paired with a red lip to tie it all together. Bonus points if you can get someone to dress up as Travis Kelce to go with you!
The live-action The Little Mermaid premiered this year, so naturally, we expect to see some Ariels swimming along the consume parties this Halloween! You can have a lot of fun putting together an Ariel costume. The main things you’ll need are a mermaid-like skirt and a shell bra top. The rest is essentially hair and makeup!
You can never go wrong with a classic Tinkerbell or fairy costume if you want to look cute but still festive on Halloween! Find some fairy wings, a mini dress, and sparkles (ahem, pixie dust), and that’s pretty much all you need!
Another Halloween classic. Little Red Riding Hood! Everyone will know who you’re dressed up as, and you can easily make the costume yourself or shop in-store if getting crafty isn’t your thing.
The ultimate yin and yang Halloween costume has to be an angel and devil duo. You can obviously choose one and wear it solo as well, but this costume holds the most power when it’s worn with your bestie. Especially if you two happen to give off yin and yang energy.
Any and all of The Office cast members would make for a great Halloween costume that anyone worth knowing would understand (kidding, kind of). We’re loving this Dwight and Angela duo!
Name a monster more cool-looking than Medusa. We’ll wait. If you want to look scary yet still feel kind of cute, Medusa is the way to go. In our opinion, the best Medusa costumes are hand-made, so if you’re crafty, this one’s for you! Create a snake crown and consider investing in some creepy contacts, and the rest will fall into place.
A fun, notable Halloween costume is Mia from The Princess Diaries! It was announced that we can expect a Princess Diaries 3 in the future, so what better time than now to dress up as such? The main elements of the costume are a wedding-like dress, tiara, and of course, headphones.
Last but not least, coincidentally, another Mia costume! Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction is such an easy costume to put together yet is still so recognizable with the help of a chic black bob wig and a fake nosebleed. The rest of the costume you likely already have in your closet!

Halloween parties might be happening mostly online this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the holiday in style (at least from the waist, up). Whether you’re planning to just stay in and watch some spooky favourites or you’re hosting the year’s most lit Zoom karaoke party (complete with a “Thriller” dance-along, we hope), here are 11 Instagram-worthy amazing Halloween costumes you’ll love showing off online.
It’s hard to believe our obsession with Tiger King happened earlier this year, but that’s what a pandemic will do. The infamous zookeeper and his arch nemesis (and former Dancing With the Stars contestant) make for amazing Halloween costumes in 2020.
Broadway might be closed till spring 2021, but Hamilton is still one of this year’s (and possibly this decade’s) most talked-about musicals. Take Lin Manuel Miranda’s Alexander Hamilton into 2020 by adding a face mask to an already iconic outfit. It makes for an amazing Halloween costume.
Leave it to Beyonce to bring some much-needed enjoyment to a rather dismal year. Her surprise visual album, Black Is King, was created in partnership with her album The Lion King: A Gift. As always, Queen B serves up a ton of inspiration — including some Instagram-worthy outfits that would make amazing Halloween costumes.
Coming off its amazing Emmys sweep, Schitt’s Creek is certainly the talk of the town. There’s no doubt any of Moira Rose’s outfits would make an amazing Halloween costume, but don’t forget about David. His outfits are cool and comfortable so they’re ideal for this type of holiday.
WAP is a part of our vocabulary now (for better or for worse). It’s likely going to become a pillar of pop culture when we look back on this year. While most years, wearing just a bodysuit in October would be a terrible idea, in 2020 it just works. It’s an amazing Halloween costume to show off over Zoom from the warmth of your home.
Most of you have probably already binged Netflix’s Emily In Paris, planned your post-pandemic Parisian getaway, and started a florals-filled mood board. (Isn’t French fashion the best?) Emily’s gotten some minor flak for being basic, but isn’t that why we love her? This Halloween, don your best beret and blazer, sip a pumpkin spiced latte, and let your basic B shine.
If you’re looking to get down and spooky this Halloween, dressing as Nurse Mildred Ratched is a solid choice. There’s something inherently creepy about old-timey insane asylums, but the dark and twisted Nurse Ratched takes that ominousness to a whole new level.
The world lost a civil rights icon when Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away this year. Show RBG some love by holding court over your friends this Halloween. Everyone presents their case on why they should get all the candy and you pick the winner. (Make them pay their court fees directly to you in the form of half their haul.)
We’re hereby crowning Demi Lovato Queen of Halloween. She slayed last year as a sexy-yet-spooky Pennywise, and this iconic look should definitely be on your IT-list. Scary clowns will always be an amazing Halloween costume, but we want to see you amp it up a notch for 2020.

The spookiest day of the year has arrived and celebrities always do it best. With an unlimited budget and a passion for theatrics, celebrities — we’re looking at you, Heidi Klum — can go all out on prosthetics, wigs, makeup, and costumes.
This year, Halloween falls on a Thursday, which means we’re lucky enough to be able to celebrate the holiday over two weekends — and we get two full waves of celebrities in costume!
From Jessica Biel dressing up as Justin Timberlake and True Thompson as the world’s cutest Oompa Loompa, your favourites went all out with their 2019 celebrity Halloween costumes this year.

14 Cheap Halloween Costumes That Won’t Break The Bank
There are two types of people when it comes to Halloween: those who absolutely love the holiday and go all out with their costumes, and those who are just in it for the free candy. I tend to fall into the latter category, which means every time October 31st rolls around, I always find myself committed to Halloween plans but without a costume to wear. And with all of the potential costumes deciding what to dress up as can be hard. Do you go with something scary? A cute pop culture reference from the year? Maybe something classic like a ghost or a witch? These Halloween loving celebrities are sure to inspire you.
Lauren Conrad is the DIY Queen of Halloween. Year of year she delivers ultra-cute classic looks that provide easy to replicate costume inspiration. Lauren even shares a breakdown of her costumes on her website to help you recreate her look. These relatively low effort ideas are perfect for last minute costume ideas. Plus, now that she’s a mama, we get a double dose of Halloween cuteness with her and her son, Liam, and hopefully will with her new baby. My favourite of her costume choices includes her ultra chic Cruella de Vil costume.
Let’s be honest: no one does Halloween better than Heidi Klum. The former supermodel is a die-hard Halloween lover who goes all in and spends months and months preparing her costume. Each year Heidi totally transforms and becomes basically unrecognizable so it’s obvious why she’s the ultimate inspiration for all of your over the top looks. For one of her best looks she went in head-to-toe makeup to transform into an elderly lady.
One of the perks of being in a relationship is that you can dress up in matching costumes for Halloween. Whether they’re paying homage to real people, or referencing pop culture, Bey and Jay always serve up the ultimate couple costume goals. This musical power couple has previously dressed up as Barbie and Ken, Biggie and Lil Kim, and Olympic gold medalists Florence Griffith Joyner and Tommie Smith.
I thought deciding on one costume idea was difficult, but I can’t even imagine coming up with costumes for an entire family. Every year Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka coordinate themed costumes for themselves and their two children. This Halloween tradition has seen the famous family dress up as circus performers and famous Hollywood icons. If you don’t have kids, don’t worry because you can always replicate these costume ideas with your group of friends instead!
We can’t forget about our furry little friends during the spooky season! Dressing up your fur baby in costumes is arguably even cuter than dressing up a baby in a costume. One of the most famous dogs, Doug the Pug, is constantly serving up look after look. He even makes a Georgie from IT costume look absolutely adorable.

Another fun social media-inspired costume is the Snapchat flower crown. Construct the Snapchat border with cardboard and yellow bristol board, then either purchase or make a flower crown.
Speaking of Snapchat, the dog filter is just as easy to do as the flower crown. Create the same Snapchat border, but also use the cardboard as backing for the ears nose and tongue. You can print premade puppy filter cutouts here.
