Style Spotlight: Jake Mossop

Our next style spotlight is a force to be reckoned with; a multifaceted individual with a whole lot up his sleeve.

Allow us to introduce you to Jake Mossop.

If you recognize his face, you may remember him from the popular MTV Canada show, 1 Girl, 5 Gays but Mr. Mossop has been up to a lot since then. After studying for years and earning a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration, Mossop found his calling as a Registered Nurse.

But no producer could deny that the man was a natural on screen, making hosting gigs for Shaw Vancouver’s Outlook TV, Elle Canada and Entertainment Tonight Canada Mossop’s more-than-admirable side-hustles.

Today, he’s focusing on a brand new YouTube channel that gives a fun spin on health and shows a different side of him – a side that hasn’t been seen on network television.

We had the opportunity to talk to Jake Mossop about his favourite things about Toronto, why it’s always a good idea to have an impressive shoe collection, and the one thing he’d change about the city. Take a peek at the interview below.

Define your style in three words.

F –  functional
M – monochromatic
L – layered

What are some of your own style ‘rules’ that you like to live by?

1. Shoes can make or break an outfit! So don’t underestimate your shoe collection.

2. Have fun. Buying clothes and expressing your style should be exciting and not stressful.

3. Always have a handful of quality staples and basics (white/black tees, leather jacket, blue denim, versatile sneaker, black boot, etc…).

If you could implement one change in Toronto, what would it be?

I would implore that the big retailers carry more Canadian designers. Hudson’s Bay, Holt Renfrew, Saks, and Nordstrom should all be supporting a greater number of Canadian designers – men and women’s.

List the top five things about Toronto that you love.

These are some of the things I boast about when telling people around the world that I live in Toronto:

1. Diversity of cultures +++
2. Incredible festivals (Toronto Pride, TIFF, Caribana, Taste of the Danforth, etc…)
3. Large LGBTQ community
4. Delicious food
5. Drizzy Drake!
