Makeup has come a long way over the years. The reputation that makeup is bad for your skin is changing as products advance with new, innovative technology. More brands are infusing skin-loving ingredients into their products in order to provide the cosmetic function of makeup while also serving the benefits of skincare. A makeup-skincare hybrid, if you will. Essentially, it’s makeup products that include ingredients traditionally found in skincare products, like hyaluronic acid, SPF, and various antioxidants. Whether you’re on the hunt for a concealer that will simultaneously cover and treat blemishes, or a lipstick that doubles as a hydrating serum – we’ve rounded up 8 makeup products that double as skincare.

When it comes to foundation, we might all differ in what we may consider to be our “holy grail”, due to having different skin types, colours, concerns, and foundation-finish preferences. That being said, one thing pretty much everyone can agree on in terms of the foundation is we all want it to look as much like skin as possible. Bonus points if it’s affordable. The drugstore has plenty of foundations that do the trick just as well as some high-end foundations. If you’re unsure where to start, we’ve done the research for you!

Dare we say if the price wasn’t even an aspect, you may even prefer a foundation from this list as opposed to shopping high-end anyway…

These drugstore foundations are general crowd-pleasers and are a great place to start if you’re looking for a good foundation at a fair price point.

Fall 2023 Fashion Trends To Have On Your Radar

It’s that time of year again! As the air gets cooler, the makeup gets darker. Fall makeup is always just a little more dramatic and experimental than makeup typically worn throughout the warmer seasons. Maybe it’s because it won’t melt and crease as it does on those hot and humid summer days! We’ve noticed this year’s fall makeup trends are leaning towards ‘90 grudge and more editorial vibes, and we’re so here for it! Winged eyeliner, smokey eyes, glitter, and various hues of brown are all among the makeup styles we’ve been seeing a lot of as we enter into fall.

Smokey Eyes

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by David Razzano (@davidrazzano)

This is a trend that is giving life to all those who love the ’90s grunge aesthetic. The messy smokey eye is back! The key to achieving this look to perfection is ironically trying not to be too precise. It’s okay to be a little messy! Also, don’t neglect the lower lash line, and blend, blend, blend.

Heavy Blush

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by TARANDEEP KAUR H (@tarandeepkaurh)

Having flushed cheeks was a makeup style sported throughout summer and will continue into fall with just a bit of a twist. People are replacing their pale pinks with something a little deeper to match the season. We’ve been seeing orange hues, terracotta blushes, and shades of burgundy on the cheeks. Think fall leaves in blush form.

Inner Corner Eyeliner

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Delmi🐢 (@delmivieira_b)

We all love a sharp-winged eyeliner, but we’ve been seeing it taken to the next level by dragging that liner into the inner corner. It gives the eyes a fox-like appearance that instantly makes anyone look extra fierce.

Featherly Lashes

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Holly Rebecca White (@hollyrebeccawhite)

Drawing a little bit of inspiration from the controversial “spider lashes” is the more subtle feather-like appearance! It’s achieved by using a lengthening mascara without too much-added volume, applied to both the top and bottom lash line. It looks so whimsical!

Brown

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by THANH VO | Hair & Makeup (@thanhtheman)

We love the softness that a makeup look with brown hues gives! With a focus primarily on the eyes, adding various hues of brown shadow and even a brown liner to add some drama without being too harsh. Finish the look with some bronzer, brown-toned blush, and a brown-nude lipstick/gloss and you’re set!

Fun Liner

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by SandyNicha (@sandy_nicha)

Liner of any colour placed basically anywhere but the lash line is a makeup trend with an editorial touch that we’ve been seeing everywhere! The trend may require a bit more practice, but is so worth it once you get it right.

Glitter

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by ❗️[focusing on school atm – will post occasionally]❗️ (@neige.naya)

Who doesn’t love a little extra glam from time to time? Whether you’re going to a special event or to the grocery store, we think it’s totally socially acceptable to rock some glitter on the eyelids. Simply dip your finger in some glitter shadow and swipe it over the eyelids without much thought. The less intentional, the better with this trend!

Bleached Brows

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Kendall (@kendalljenner)

This trend may be taking it a step further than makeup goes, but still worth an honourable mention. Bleached brows! You either love them or hate them, regardless, they’re definitely trending. If you try this trend and don’t end up loving it, simply dye them back or colour them in and wait for them to grow out. Sometimes the fun in makeup and beauty is the experimentation!

Thanks to the makeup gurus of TikTok giving us insight on the products we need to get our hands on and also, the products to stray away from.

Drugstore makeup is nothing like what it used to be. It’s way better! You can basically find any makeup product you could ever want, easily accessible at your local drugstore. Some even favoured over high-end makeup products. We did some digging (or scrolling) through TikTok, on the hunt for some makeup recommendations and certain drugstore makeup products kept popping up over and over, which means they must be worth a try!

Long gone are the days of colourless cheeks! Now more than ever, blush, more specifically liquid blush, has been all the rage – and we think it’s here to stay! Whether you’re looking for a natural sun-kissed glow, or that dreamy flush you get after having a drink. Blush alone, or in addition to a full face of makeup helps effortlessly achieve that look.

The nature of liquid blush can be a little intimidating at first but don’t fret, they’re actually way easier to work with than you may think! Just start with a little and blend, then build if need be.

Liquid blush gives a natural finish almost like a glow. Rather than the powdery, cakey (at its worst clowney), look some powder blushes tend to give off. So, we can understand that liquid blush is buzzing with popularity!

Here are the best liquid/cream blushes currently on the market!

Rare Beauty – Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

A post shared by Beth | Beauty Content Creator | ugc (@bloves.beauty)

If you’ve yet to join the bandwagon on the Rare Beauty Soft Liquid Blush line, don’t walk, run! The popular shades of this blush sell out fast and we can see why. They are extremely pigmented yet when appropriately used (we recommend just a dab on the cheeks then blended out with a beauty sponge to soak in the excess product), the finish is stunning! This blush comes in either a radiant finish or a matte finish with a bunch of different stunning shades for all skin tones.

Benefit – Benetint Rose Lip Blush & Cheek Tint

An oldie but a goodie! This product created in the 1970s is still relevant and thriving today! Originally Benetint was created for an exotic dancer as a nipple tint (yep, you read that right!). Now it is primarily used as a cheek tint giving the cheeks a natural flush and can even be used on the lips as well, providing an all-around finished look.

Kaja – Cheeky Stamp Blendable Blush

We love the application as much as we love the product for Kaja’s Cheeky Stamp Blendable Blush! You simply dab the applicator on your cheeks, leaving you with an adorable little heart painted on your face. Then you blend and watch your cheeks flush!

NYX – Sweet Cheeks Soft Cheek Tint

NYX is notorious for creating beautiful, creamy makeup formulas, and its Sweet Cheeks Soft Cheek Tint is no exception! Whether you like your blush to be more of a subtle wash of colour or prefer it to be more pigmented, this blush is super easy to work with! If you’re looking for an affordable cream/liquid blush that still lasts and has a beautiful finish – look no further!

Saie – Dew Blush Liquid Cheek Blush
