The celeb icon, Snoop D-O-double-G has a new wine out on the racks. The awesome collaboration is with the Australian winery, 19 Crimes. The Cali Red has Snoop Dogg’s face on the bottle, front, and centre.

With Snoop’s values and activism, 19 Crimes felt like he aligned with its own brand persona, and so the wine relationship began.

The wine is now available in California, and keeping in touch with Snoop Dogg’s roots, this is the winery’s first Californian wine.

Wondering what the wine will taste like?

Its a combination of 65% Petit Syrah, 30% Zinfandel, and 5% Merlot. The wine is on the fruitier side with hints of vanilla and hazelnut.

The rapper is said to have been fully involved in the wine process, so you can expect you’re getting a full Snoop experience. The wine is welcoming to all, even the non-wine drinkers. The VP of Marketing for 19 Crimes, John Wardley, said in a release that, “I think Snoop’s going to capture their attention and their imagination.”

Cali Red will be in British Columbia and Alberta this month; Saskatchewan in September; Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland in October; and Ontario in early 2021.

Have you ever dreamt of grabbing a drink with a basketball legend? Well, your dream is about to come true.

Halpern Wine, a Toronto-based wine agency, is making the best out of self-isolation with the launch of its series Crew Classé at Home. Twice a week, Halpern Wine will invite guests to chat, learn, and drink with winemakers and notables.

For the second volume of Crew Classé at Home, former pro basketball star Dwyane Wade will host the series with Antonio Galloni, one of the world’s top wine critics.

And what does the former Miami Heat player know about wine? Well, actually, a lot. For those unaware, with the help of winemaker Jayson Pahlmeyer, Wade created D Wade Cellars a few years ago. Today, D Wade Cellars produces a variety of different wines including Three by Wade Rosé, Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, and Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

Millennials love wine. But drinking it is the easy part, talking about it, not so much. Sipping wine is very different from speaking wine.

Wine tasting requires a sophisticated language we often fake with rehearsed phrases like, “I’m in the mood for something full-bodied” or “this Chardonnay is too oaky for me.” Thankfully you don’t need years of sommelier experience to sound like a wine connoisseur. To help you talk like the ultimate wine educator, here are a few wine words and tasting terms every millennial should know.

Word: Sweet

Definition: Wine with a lower alcohol content has more residual sugar that is felt on the tip of the tongue, thus it is deemed as sweet tasting.

Used in a sentence: “Riesling is too sweet for me.”

Word: Fruity

Definition: A wine is fruity if it has a higher alcohol content and a sweetness to it that is not felt on the tip of the tongue.

Used in a sentence: “Just because I like fruity wines doesn’t mean I’ll drink Moscato.”

Word: Body

Definition: The body of a wine refers to how light or heavy it feels in one’s mouth.

Used in a sentence: “I’m not a fan of red wine, it’s too full-bodied for me.”

Word: Tannin

Definition: Easily mistaken as a flavour, tannin is actually a polyphenol produced during the winemaking process that causes a mouth-drying feeling on the palate.

Used in a sentence: “I can really feel the tannins of this Cab Sauv in my cheeks.”

Word: Acidity

Definition: Wine is acidic if it has a refreshing, mouth-puckering quality to it that is felt under the tongue and on the sides of the palate.

Used in a sentence: “I like my wine like a lemonade; with lots of acidity.”

Word: Minerality

Definition: A salty and briny quality of a wine.

Used in a sentence: “This wine has lots of minerality to it—It’s like licking a rock from the bottom of the ocean.”

Word: Vintage

Definition: The year a wine’s grapes were harvested.

Used in a sentence: “I’m so into that vineyard’s 2002 vintage merlot.”

Word: Oak

Definition: This is a buttery, toasty-vanilla quality from the flavour impartation of the oak barrel that the wine is aged in during the winemaking process.

Used in a sentence: “I can always taste the oaky quality in New Zealand wines.”

Word: Earthy

Definition: If a wine is earthy, that means that it is savoury and free of sweet fruit notes.

Used in a sentence: “I love reds from Chile and France. They’re much more earthy.”

Word: Finish

Definition: A wine’s finish refers to the sensations that take place in the mouth after swallowing. Wine typically leaves a residual taste that’s either sweet, tart, bitter, smoky or some combination of these.

Used in a sentence: “This wine has a very smoky finish with light hints of dry blackcurrant.”

Word: Complex

Definition: A wine is complex if it has multiple flavour sensations and finishes.

Used in a sentence: “I can really taste the layering in this pinot noir; it’s really quite complex.”

Word: Old World

Definition: Refers to wines originating from Europe that are usually lower in alcohol content and subtler in their flavour profiles.

Used in a sentence: “I like my wine refined, subtle, and versatile, like Old World Cabernets.”

Word: New World

Definition: Refers to wines that are from anywhere outside of Europe such as North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. These wines are usually higher in alcohol content and more fruit-forward.

Used in a sentence: “I’m more of a fruity drink kind of gal so I love New World wines.”

It’s that time of year where we shower our moms with lots of love (or a close female in your life). We’ve teamed up with the chocolatiers at the famed Nadège Patisserie to develop custom wine-infused chocolate recipes, featuring Fleur du Cap Chardonnay, Novas Gran Reserva Carménère Cabernet Sauvignon, Montecillo Crianza Rioja and to celebrate Mother’s Day. It’s very important to show the love and respect you have for your mama on her special day. They’ve worked so hard for us over the years and there’s only one day we can treat them as well as they’ve treated us.

Here we’ve picked out three wines to impress your mom, with the perfect pairings for creating a divine meal.

Novas Gran Reserva Carménère Cab Sauvignon Organic – $15.90 CAD

Fleur du Cap Chardonnay – $12.95 CAD

The wines on their own are gift-worthy, but try making your own chocolates with Nadège’s recipes to really show your loved ones you care. If they don’t turn out perfectly, it’s the thought that counts right?

Note: the chocolates aren’t available for purchase at Nadege

If you’re looking for a wine suggestion that pairs well with a more traditional meal, this is our selection. It’s fresh and fruity with expressive notes of blackberry and strawberry on the palate that makes it slightly sweet on the palate. It pairs well with strong-flavored dishes or tapas.

8 Budget-Friendly Wines That Are Worth A Try

With outdoor dining season on the horizon, we wanted to help you choose the best bang for your buck. Shopping for wine can get expensive and stressful. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, you can end up feeling overwhelmed and confused. We’ve rounded up the top 5 tips to help you next time you’re buying wine.

1. What’s inside matters

Don’t be enticed by kitschy label designs, ones that have little to do with the wine itself and more about marketing a lifestyle. If the back label tells a fluffy story and gives little detail about the wine itself, it’s likely because there is not much to say about what is in the bottle.

2. Don’t follow the crowd

Try something different from the handful of wines that the masses drink. Try some different wines and decide for yourself what you like best, there is a world of exceptional wine out there to be discovered. Try some regions and grape varieties that are new to you. It will expand your tasting knowledge.

3. Revisit the Old World

A lot of wineries in Europe make wine in fresh, exciting styles and there is a lot of terrific value to be had in certain regions in Italy, Spain, Greece, Hungary, and Portugal.

Tuscany, Italy

4. Professional Opinion

Tap into the experience of the person working at your local store, they’ll have tasted loads of wines and can help to find exactly you what you need.

5. Comparison Test

To hone your tasting skills and really get to know a grape variety buy two bottles made from the same grape, but from two different countries. It will allow you to get familiar with the distinct characteristics of the grape, as well as the characteristics of two different regions.

This is our pick for the month:

Gabbiano – Chianti Classico 2014

We’ve got some good news! Finally, Ontario will be making our lives MUCH easier this coming spring, by expanding beer and cider sales. They will be expanding to 87 more grocery stores across the province – almost 40 of which are in the GTA.

These stores were selected through a competitive bidding process run by the LCBO and will be authorized to sell beer and cider as of April 2018. That’s not too long from now!

This will bring the total number of grocers authorized to sell these products in Ontario up to 370. Ultimately the goal is to have beer and cider available in up to 450 grocery stores, including up to 300 that will also sell wine.

Click here to find out where you can find the new beer and cider outposts coming to Toronto in April.

For those of you who have ever been to a wine tasting whether in Toronto, up in the country, or overseas, you know how intimidating an experience it can be. But that’s not the case with Vine & Vintage. Samantha Krumholz, certified wine expert and event planner, recently launched a company that “provides an educational and entertaining experience for anyone interested in learning more about wine – varietal characteristics, wine regions, history on individual vineyards, food pairing, etc.”

Vine & Vintage takes out the intimidation and makes wine tasting what is should be; inspirational, educational, and most of all, fun. Each experience is tailored specifically to you, whether it be for a bachelorette party, a girls night at home, a tasting before poker with the boys, an employee event, or anytime a group feels like some delicious hand picked food and wine pairings.

Vine & Vintage offers competitive pricing and many different options. Whether you are looking for a simple charcuterie table or a full catered dinner, there is a one of a kind experience option available for all.

The soft launch of Vine & Vintage was very exciting because it gave us a real taste of what these events will look like during private party bookings for small groups. Last week, we attended an event in more of a party setting with over 50 people. We were able to walk around the room tasting wines from different regions and of different varieties, all provided from Wine Lovers Agency. We even got to try wines that are unavailable at the LCBO!

Check out the below photos from the event we attended last week in Liberty Village.

To keep up with Vine & Vintage, follow them on Facebook (Vine and Vintage Events), Instagram (@VineandVintageEvents), and blog, or email events@vineandvintage.ca to book an event.
