Meghan Markle Was Just Named One Of The Most Powerful Dressers of 2019 By Lyst

Members of the Royal Family have been shaping trends and influencing the way us commoners shop for decades, heck even centuries. But in the age of social media and constant media attention, our obsessions with wearing whatever they wear, has skyrocketed. That’s why it’s not really a surprise that Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex has been named the most powerful dresser of the year from fashion search platform Lyst.

The way this list is determined is by analyzing data from over 100 million shoppers, looking at page views, the sales of six million products from 12,000 stores, and of course, media coverage. The list is comprised of public figures that not only had an impact on consumer wardrobes, but also the top shopping trends for the year.

This is one celeb who knows how to dress for the red carpet. Timothée is constantly turning heads with his unique style and after showing up at The Lion King premiere in a sequin hoodie, Lyst saw a 192% increase in searches for men’s hoodies.

#3: Zendaya

Another fixture on red carpets is Zendaya and after rocking Tommy Hilfiger at the Met Gala in May, the brand experienced a jump in popularity with a 54 per cent increase in searches. The same happened when Zendaya wore a Vera Wang gown to the 2019 Emmys and created a 33% increase in searches for the brand.

#4: Billie Eilish

At just 17 years of age, Billie Eilish has quite the influence. Billie’s known for her love of neon and after wearing the colour a few times, searches for the colour jumped 69% across the summer. Plus, after wearing a piece by the brand BBCICECREAM, searches for it surged 211% in less than a week.

#5: Cardi B

Cardi has a soft spot for high fashion and after wearing a vintage Thierry Mugler to the 2019 Grammys, searches for the brand climbed 169%.

#6: Lisa Blackpink

K-pop star Lisa is the most followed K-Pop personality on Instagram with a cool 27 million followers but her fashion choices are also popular. After wearing the Celine Triomphe bag in the summer, searches for it rose rose 66%.

Let’s be honest: anything that King Kylie touches instantly turns to gold and the same goes for whatever she decides to wear. One floral dress that Kylie wore in August, was, according to Lyst, “responsible for a 66% spike in searches for the style.” 

#8: Lizzo

2019 is the year that Lizzo officially broke onto the scene and Lyst reports that searches for “Lizzo fashion” have been skyrocketing since September. Not only that but Lyst says that searches for leotards have grown 28% as well.

#9: Harry Styles

While Harry Styles might not be experiencing boy band success these days, his style choices have helped make up for it. Harry doesn’t shy away from brave fashion choices and folks seem to love him even more. After appearing on the Met Gala red carpet, searches for single earrings surged 28%, and searches for blue suits jumped 78% after he wore one in the spring.

#10: Billy Porter

A lover of unique fashion is red carpet staple, Billy Porter and after wearing a Christian Siriano tuxedo-gown at the 2019 Academy Awards, Lyst reports that searches for the designer rose a whopping 101%.
