The day has finally come. The insanely popular clothing brand, Shein, is making its way into a physical pop-up location.
Known for its incredibly inexpensive apparel, footwear, home decor, and pretty much anything else you need, the brand has caused quite a controversy over the years. The low price point is a major selling factor for Shein, but it most definitely is a massive player in fast fashion.
Shein continues to have such a high amount of trendy inventory on hand that’s not being made sustainably whatsoever. Another viral dispute with the brand is the poor working conditions that the employees are put through.
Many of the time, the clothing is not true to size and can also look quite different in person than online. Of course, having a physical store will eliminate that issue when shopping in person.
Tickets for the Shein pop-up event are already sold out, but there will be another line for walk-ins. You can expect that line to be quite steady for the three days.

With street-facing retailers slowly starting to reopen for curbside pickup, Toronto’s shipping container market, Stackt, has launched an online shopping experience in order to start serving the public.
Shoppers can now browse goods from a variety of local businesses, as well as distributors that work with local farmers and urban markets on Stackt’s online store. Payments are made through the website and shoppers have the option of collecting via foot or drive-thru.
From locally-sourced produce and protein options to Belgian Moon beers, DIY cocktail kits, and takeout eats from Conspiracy Pizza, Victor Restaurant, and JoyBird Dim Sum, all is available at the click of a button. Once you make your purchase, all you have to do is choose a time slot for your contactless pickup. Those on foot can grab their pickup at 28 Bathurst St. while those in cars can grab orders from 3 Tecumseth St.
The new service is not only safe and convenient but charitable, too. Each purchase has a pickup fee associated with it and all pickup fees go to The Stop, a west-end Toronto nonprofit that provides healthy food to those in need. There’s also the option to “Pay It Forward” and donate a food box to The Stop Food Community Services.
“Once the emergency declaration is lifted, we will introduce our new site plans that will address supporting a safe environment and allow our community to enjoy Stackt’s public space again,” Matt Rubinoff, the founder of Stackt said in a release. “Our goal right now is to support our Stackt partners, the community, and increase access to local businesses in a safe way.”

We all know that Toronto is filled with many creators, designers, artists, and makers. In a city as big and creative as ours, it’s pretty obvious that we have our fair share of talented folks that keep us all looking unique and not blending in with the crowds. This is something I absolutely love about being from Toronto and it’s something I carry proudly. If you (like me), are always on the lookout for the next big collab or newest store to shop, then here’s one that you won’t want to sleep on.
If you’re unfamiliar with Ellie Mae Studios, all you need to do is do a quick search because you’ll soon find out lots about the brand. You’ll see photos of “it” girls like Gigi and Bella Hadid, Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, Gwen Stefani, and Jen Atkins because they’ve all been seen in her whimsical designs.
“We both believe in Stackt and we came here without knowing each other. Then 6 months later we decided that we believed in this place so much that we came together in a bigger space because we feel that it showcases our products more,” says Ellie Mae to StyleDemocracy.
Fans of Ellie Mae Studios might be surprised with the minimal and muted collection as the brand is known for its use of bright colours but Ellie Mae told me that “it was cool putting on a different creative hat.”
In addition to being stunning, the new space is filled with Ellie Mae’s designs, the two brands’ chic cannabis accessories, and COFO’s modern and streamlined furniture. It’s important to note that everything you’ll see in the store is available for purchase including the furniture, racks, chairs, etc. and it’s made by COFO.

From December 7 until the 23, experience the excitement of Christmas while enjoying the magic of a winter carnival at Holiday Fair in Nathan Phillips Square. Located in the heart of Toronto, this free and fun holiday market has it all — skating, rides, games, seasonal treats, and drinks!
Grab the family and head to Yorkville Village on December 7. From 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., enjoy activities like letter writing to Santa, story time, ornament making, face painting and more. While the event is free for all to attend, a toy donation is suggested as it’ll benefit CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish.
It’s not really the holiday season until you watch your favourite Christmas movie, is it? Whether you’re into classics like White Christmas, or prefer newer ones like The Holiday, head to Hot Docs for a free screening from December 14-21. Tickets can be reserved for members but if you’re not a member, fear not because you can grab your tix at the box office!
Who doesn’t love a good, old fashioned winter skating session? Grab your family, friends, or go solo, and head to Union Station to enjoy skating at Union Station’s Union Holiday that’s open until January 4. Don’t have skates? No prob because skating lessons, skate, and helmet rentals will be offered by TD and Union for free.
What could be better than a morning of free movies? From 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on December 7, you and the whole family can enjoy holiday films like A Christmas Story, Elf, Gremlins, The Polar Express, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at Cineplex’s Community Day. While the movie tickets are free, concession items like popcorn, soft drinks, and select candy will be just $2.50. All proceeds from donations and select concession sales will go to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.

Not long after the snow melted earlier this year, Toronto’s retail scene got a shake-up with the opening of Stackt Market, the city’s first market made from shipping containers. Since it opened, the unique shopping experience has been home to numerous pop-up shops and community events that are fun for the whole family. Just because summer is coming to an end, it doesn’t mean the fun stops at Stackt. Keep reading for a whole bunch of exciting events that are taking place this fall at Stackt Market!
On September 21 and 22, Stackt will celebrate Fall Equinox with a two-day site-wide celebration of the planet. Festivities include a goodness-packed farmers’ market, a flower market, harvest block party by Belgium Moon, workshops, talks, panels, karaoke, and ping-pong.
Female-focused cannabis brand Irisa has popped up at Stackt with Pretty Elevated, a first-of-its-kind community collective with curated retail, workshops, and a co-working space created to empower and amplify local women-led businesses. Since August 15th, and until September 22, the pop-up studio has featured a rotating selection of local female-owned businesses, each at different stages of the entrepreneurial journey. Each entrepreneur has the opportunity to activate in the Pretty Elevated space for two weeks, rent-free(!), to promote his or her business, and grow their customer base.
Hit up Stackt on September 25 and 26 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., for a high-energy ping-pong party. Astound Commerce has teamed up with Elevate King West for the extravaganza, which includes tracks from DJ Lee Groves and a digital leaderboard tracking the spins and wins of underdogs and champions. The Astound Ping Pong Party is the place to either unwind or wind up for some evening drinks and fun (and an interactive place to meet fellow singles).
RxFit presents a unique wellness series with an all-encompassing look into fitness and health in a group setting. Taking into account different lifestyles and goals, Stackt-Up gives you a variety of distinctly challenging (yet fun and exciting) weekly themed workouts. The sessions feature special activations, discoveries, and giveaways, and run Wednesdays until October 16.
The new PAUSE PORTAL installation offers an immersive and interactive railway viewing platform that invites viewers to pause and take a moment. Take in the sights and sounds of travel, & movement of people and goods, and to reflect on the history of this place that has become one of Canada’s busiest transportation hubs. Pause Portal was commissioned by Urban Discovery, which funded by The Public Space Incubator – a project of Park People made possible through funding from Ken and Eti Greenberg and the Balsam Foundation. Urban Discovery is a youth-focused initiative that aims to change perceptions about things normally viewed as a nuisance—like a large downtown rail corridor. Presented by stackt, Earth Day Canada, and Children’s Discovery Centre, Pause Portal was designed and fabricated for community use at stackt by ====\\DeRAIL Platform for Art + Architecture with Marek Kubat (MTK Fabrication), in collaboration with Blackwell Structural Engineers.
The summer’s popular Brews + Chews has been extended until the end of September. Bring your dog and hit up the Belgian Moon patio on Wednesday nights in September from 6 to 8 p.m. for brews and doggy ice cream from Barker and Snouts. Mingle with fellow dog owners, enjoy live music, and soak up the last of the patio season.
These days it’s rare to have something in your wardrobe that’s truly unique; something that’s truly just yours. Thanks to Instagram and fast fashion, styles are easily shared and replicated. And in the world of sneakers, for instance, even “exclusive drops” aren’t that exclusive.
While brands used to make sneakers in runs less than 100, those types of drops are far and few in between. So to have a pair of kicks that are truly your own, you’ve got to customize them yourself. Labels like Nike, adidas, and Vans all have create-your-own-shoes sections on their websites, but for those craving a truly custom experience, a new shop in Toronto offers just that.
Located at Stackt Market in Toronto, Mack House is the brainchild of Shelby Weaver whose love for sneakers started at a young age. Weaver began customizing her own sneakers as an escape from her busy work life.
Her friends and family quickly took notice, commissioning her to do theirs too. With requests rolling in left, right, and centre, Weaver turned her talent into a business idea, and Mack House was born.
The beauty of the studio is that you can go as simple or complex as you like. With six different stations in-shop, visitors can paint, print, accessorize, or add more fabric and textures to their own pair of sneakers, with all tools and materials provided. The team behind Mack House is there to guide each individual every step of the way.
For $95, visitors get access to the workshop for two hours. Mack House runs three sessions a day (12 p.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m.) and appointments can be booked through Instagram or mackhouseinc.com.

Over the years, an influx of Japanese retailers have made a splash in Canada, bringing clean lines, simplicity, and versatility to a market that was missing it. And now, Toronto is going to get a taste of another Japanese lifestyle label that’s much different than the ones we’re used to.
The Japanese lifestyle brand launched in Asia in 2007 and is moving into the North American market this year, opening its first Canadian pop-up shop in Toronto at Stackt Market.
Known for its industrial style and unique homewares, Puebco’s founder, Hirotaka Tanaka, spends 300 days of the year traveling across Asia searching for inspiration, fabrics, and technics for the goods that make up the extensive Puebco collection.
Many of the items in-store are created using found and recycled materials, giving each piece a sense of history. Take, for example, Puebco’s collection of pet beds. Made from the fabric of old camping tents, each pet bed has its own qualities that make it unique.
Shoppers can expect to find giftables, homewares, travel accessories, apparel, and bags ranging between $10 and $200. However, the majority of items in-store are priced between $20 and $60.
The store, which is located on Bathurst St., is teeming with Puebco originals, made from old fabrics and materials that might otherwise be deemed worthless such as recycled straws and moving blankets. And while each corner is loaded with something different, it’s easy to recognize the minimalist aesthetic Japan is known for in the core of each piece.
Open from now until the end of September 2019, visit the Puebco Toronto Stackt Market pop-up at #1-112 – 28 Bathurst Street. The pop-up is open Monday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
And if you can’t make it to the store, you can shop the entire Puebco collection online at puebco.ca.
